  2. Hello,

I am currently in the market to buy a new sled.

I've heard nothing but great things about the Sachtler Artemis 2.

I would love to hear from some owner/operators about it and where you get it serviced if you live in the US.

    Thanks for your time!!

  3. Hi there,

I'm wondering where I can find the thinest BNC to DIN 1.0/2.3 video cable to run from the camera to the hyperdeck? Or do they make BNC to DIN 1.0/2.3 adaptors?

Since the hyper deck doesn't have a BNC input/output and it's kind of big (for steadicam), I'm a little disappointed.

I'm sure once it is up and running it will be ok though.

If anyone has any info about thin cables, connectors and or adaptors please let me know. Have a great Labor Day!

    Thanks,

    Eli

  4. A few days ago I worked on a small job with a RED 1. It was a relatively light load... . A prime lens, battery, preston, etc. Didn't have a matte box on. I have an Ultra 1 sled. When I would check the drop time and pan up or down something was creaking. Not sure if it was the gimbal, the top stage, or the camera. At home with my practice cage there is no noise of coarse. (Same weight but not quit as long).

Normally, I would've dismissed it and blamed it on the camera but this has happened once before when I assembled my practice cage to be twice as long as it would normally be. Back then I just thought it was the cage because of the wanky set up and I put it back to normal and it was fine. But now it happened on a job.

Anyone have any ideas?? Unfortunately my gut tells me it was the top stage.

    Thanks for reading,

    Hi all,

The Alex camera body unfortunately does not have a flat bottom to mount the steadicam dovetailplat to.

So I made this adapter plate.

    post-9815-061603400 1289825238_thumb.jpg

First it gives the camera a flat and stable surface.

Second it has the standard Arri spacing of the mounting holes. So all dovetailplates that used to fit Arri cameras will fit this adaptor (Alexa has different spacing)

Third it will extend the fore aft range of the dovetailplate by roughly 1.5”, as it can be mounted in both directions.

It also shortens the lens to gimbal distance by roughly 1” compared to arris quickrelease plate or bridgeplate.

The screws are captive and will always stay with the adapter.

Final product will be black anodized.

Alexa comes in two configurations from the rental house. First uses sony style quick release plate. The Arri Quickrelease plate is rock solid but weights 2 lbs. You can save this weight with my adapter.

Second configuration is with the new bridgeplate BP12. This will fit right in the uneven surface of the camera body. Don´t know weight of that. When you take of the bridgplate, there is no more surface to mount the dovetail to.

Arri offers an adapter for their older bridgplates with flat surface, but this will offset the nice symmetrically constructed camera to the right side.

If someone is interested in my adapter please PM me or send email to steadicamera at gmx.de and i could have a run made.

  6. Hi all,

I am looking into making a modification to my Ultra vest.

I want the strap that goes around the lower back to be bigger (like a PRO vest) and lower. It is normally aligned to go on a slight upward angle going around the lower back. The way my body type is, it would be better to not be on an angle at all.

Is there anyone in the NY area who does this?

    Best,

    Eli Aronoff

  7. As far as back problems go, the stronger you can get your core the better off you'll be. When you're operating steadicam, a proper fit and good form is key to good health and good operating. When operating hand held, I use a back brace, the kind that you find at most drug stores. Hand held can really do you in, especially if you have a back issue.

  8. MDR-2 (Microwave) FOR SALE: $3,200

Great condition. Updated firmware. I'm the original owner and bought it less than 3 years ago.

Includes cable to connect to PC for upgrading firmware and MDR to XLR power cable for panavision battery. Both cables came with MDR. This is a 2nd MDR that I have for B-Camera use. I'm selling it to help save up for a camera.

Please email me with any questions at eacamera@yahoo.com

    Thanks,

  9. It's actually several lenses (35mm, 40mm, 100mm). I'm using the super strong DM1X motor so I shoulnd't have any problems. My 50mm is good, although I do agree that 50mm's are usually the stiffer lenses.. My lenses aren't that stiff, thats one of the qualities I look for in a lens at the camera check out.

Also the lenses are calabrating just fine. the freezing happens in the middle of the shot when the focus is static for 5-10 seconds. Then when I have to adjust it freezes. This doesn't happen every time but enough that it's a problem.

Preston says that it's the safety feature in the MDR that stops the motor if it draws a certain amount of amps to move a stiff lens. This is to prevent the motor from burning out.

The only thing is that my Preston has worked just fine with these same lenses for months even in the bitter cold weather, and all of the sudden now I am experiencing this problem on a regular basis even in a warm studio.

I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary.

Preston is going to adjust the limit on that safety feature a little bit to give me a little more leeway. Maybe that'll do the trick.
