  1. I was always jealous of Dave Grove's rickshaw. Anybody wants to build a way for me to not carry the rig, especially in low mode. I'm interested. Rich"not a fabricator" Davis
  2. Thanks guys for the good words. It was a fun visit above the line...albeit short. I directed the clip show episode..."You know a walk down memory lane." So I had a much shorter week. My scenes are a framewoirk to show a bunch of the funniest clips of six years. None the less it was a blast doing it. Hopefully I will get an opportunity to do another one. I hope all that get to see it ...laugh a lot. All the Best, Rich Davis
  3. What day is there likely to be get togethers...I prefer to do an overnight and want to plan accordingly???? Anyone know about Tiffen? See ya, Rich Davis LA
  4. Happy Birthday Geoff! Talk to Tom Gleason at Cinewidgets to install a garfield mount to your walker....It works great I love mine..... See ya, Rich Davis
  5. I too am totally stunned. Like you Ron I have been out of touch for a couple years but was just thinking of him the other day.... meant to give him a call. Sincere condolences to his family. Richard Davis
  6. Kip, My first reel was a couple(male /female) at a park and I shot a number of different setups of them doing things....stairs, long lens, circling, changes etc... Made a little music video out of it...Got me a bunch of my first jobs. Gotta start somewhere. Also having something to show(making sure you also keep the technical considerations in mind, focus, exposure etc) is far better than having nothing! It proves you did a good job on at least one gig. Best of Luck, Happy New Year, Rich Davis L.A.
  7. I'm in for a TB-6 cover as well...Keep us apprised if she wants to do these. Rich Davis LA
  8. I need a number for Terry. Anyone have it? Thanks Peter Abraham Hey Peter, I have 310 374-5711 and 310 798-2018. Hope all is well with you and that this helps. See ya, Rich Davis
  9. Me, I'll be more than happy to go LCD fulltime (I use one as a backup/running rig) when the technology improves so that there is no compromise in daylight visibility, viewing angle, features etc. I'd really miss not being able to perfectly size the image as I can on the TB6. Dan, I Can't agree with Charles more. ( although I do own a Transvideo Cinemonitor III Ultra Brite as my back up monitor and a Nebtek/Panasonic 7" as a b/u b/u. ) I have also had to do video jobs where I had to gauge exposure in run and gun on the fly things(ie. Cribs where assistant pulls iris from an lcd , but I am the quality stop gap) ) I can judge a decent exposure on the TB-6 where an LCD fails (to me) as the exposure changes according to your viewing angle... Finally I prefer a shorter rig and an LCD doesn't give me enough bottom weight for the sled size I prefer...exception might be Tiffen 8.4". The great thing is we can all work the way we prefer...options are awesome. Rich Davis preferred kit of the moment: PRO II w. DBIII TB-6 monitor PRO Arm Tiffen Ultra Vest(frontmount Canatrans Preston MDR II w/ 3 motors and Digital Microforce flying an Aaton XTR Prod 75 % of the time
  10. <<You can look into the BFD to bridge the time. Call Jim or there was one for sale used at Whitehouse AV.>> I believe Daniel Stilling also has a BFD for sale. Hasta. Rich Davis
  11. Anybody have a Preston DM1 or 2 motor they want to sell? I'm looking for a backup for a second Preston I have. e mail me : chardrwd@aol.com Thanks, Richard Davis LA
  12. I have to agree with Erwin. These post cinegear get togethers have always been for everyone who is passionate about steadicam...a place to learn, chat, BS, and have a pint. The newer guys never got in the way of "old timers" :D talking, They always seemed to do a lot of listening...and learning. It seems to me that Gladstones patio is a lot bigger than Dalt's ever was and we never had a problem there. My .02 Richard W. Davis, soc LA
  13. Rich, Glad to share the trimpak tip. Also, I always have some batteries on charge at my house(Lifesaver trickle mode as AB wants it)....No problems in years. Knocking on wood now. LOL Best, Richard Davis
  14. I do have enough chargers to keep all my batteries in Lifesaver mode when I'm not using them, and I do. Trimpacs especially seem like they don't like being left out when not in use. I always hated plugging in chargers and setting up when i got home after a shoot. So, I keep chargers at home that always stay set up so I only have to pop the batts on that need charging before next day. Also my assistants are requested to keep my batts charged as we go along so that at the end of the day there are only a small quantity of batts that need charging. (common sense) Chargers I own: 2) Quad 2702 w/ discharger can do all antons include Dioncs(which I just started trying out) 2) Quad Fast Chargers slightly older style but still supported by Anton Bauer and do Hytrons w/ latest software 1) Q2 dual chargers batts I use: 10) Hytron 50's two probably ready to retire soon 6) Digital Trimpacs ( generally recelled ) for use only in specific job needs 1) Dionic 90 being used for Monitor, probably going to buy more as Hytrons retire
  15. Marc, They are local to me in Burbank, so I brought them the arm and they traced it . Innerspace Cases is a Case maker....Y'know ATA style hard cases etc.....custom foam cutouts/trays...Just saw a batch of Storm cases they did for PRO's rental rig/ Preston they were beautiful. Oh, they have a website just Google them. Although this isn't anything I think any case maker couldn't do. Hasta, Rich Davis LA PS Alec, Good seing you at NAB as well.
  16. Here ya go Marc, As you said a picture is worth a thousand words. Oh, Innerspace cases did the foam for me about $100 - 125. Maybe less I don't remember. Rich Davis
  17. is anyone using the pelican gun case for your arm? Fold the arm and it fits nicely in a Pelican 1600 Which is a lot less awkward than the gun size cases(. A little trick John Hankammer showed me. ) Of course you'll want the foam cut professionally for the different levels of the bones, but it works like a charm and is super safe for that all important arm. There is still extra room for some spares and I carry a Sony plate in some of the spare room at the top. I will try to post a picture in the next day or so. Rich Davis LA
  18. OK Dave, Are you flying both a Sony On Board recorder and an Archos...A little redundant isn't it????? :) See ya, Rich Davis LA
  19. Ron, Your post reminded me how great George and Ashley were for me about 6 weeks ago. After some particularly brutal vehicle mount work, my 5 or six yr. PRO old arm(which works just about every day(like yours) finally had a bit of metal fatique...No big deal within 30 seconds of the snap sound I was on the cell to Ashley who came through with a loaner in under 45 minutes to set(luckily we are within 15 min drive to GPI) George had my arm repaired that afternoon. GPI really came through for me and has my sincerest Thanks! Regards all, Rich Davis
  20. Jim you are the man.... Can't wait to see the new Jim. Thank You! Even though you are now svelte would you consider drinking a light beer with us? Eric, Alec, others...you know the numbers. I am in on Tuesday. Tuesday and Wednesday nights fairly open right now. See you all at NAB. Rich Davis
  21. Hey anybody have a code for signing up for the free exhibits pass. Turns out my DP now would like to attend and I registered so long ago I don't have any info...Little help???? Alec, Love to see you there...I'm sure we will cross paths at the vaarious steadi booths but call my cell in case we don't ...I'm up for a beer or two.... Rich Davis
  22. I'm going Tuesday and Wednesday...See you all there I'm sure. Rich Davis
  23. I second the Innerspace Reccomendation. They do great custom cut outs for your gear laid out exactly as you want them. They have done my Preston Case, My Vid assist case and my very cool Pelican Case for PRO arm folded up( a trick shown me by John Hankammer) . Best of Luck Rich Davis LA
  24. <<Here's a video I found some time ago on the web, can't remember the name of the Op, maybe someone will recognize him, anyway the video is impressive and the touchdown is perfect, enjoy :>> That is the very talented Colin Hudson of LA. All the best, Rich Davis
