  1. It is Dave Wolf from New Orleans. He visits here occasionally. Rich Davis
  2. I think Derrick Whitehouse still has some that fit... And I believe, yes the IIIA one fits as the case was the same approximate size as the TB-6. Rich "don't need the sunshade, but could sure use the lisagav" Davis
  3. Happy Birthday Erwin! Best, Rich Davis
  4. They most definitely were all fed the same source. I took my turn (as one of Charles' volunteers) rotating video sources and responded to all requests to see specific things, as well as cycling through all the choices including the live HD camera. It was truly one of the best events I have been to in a long time. I told Charles I thought it was better than NAB and better than Cine Gear. Thanks to all involved especially Charles, the wonderful monitor manufacturers, and Camera Support! Rich Davis LA
  5. Anthony, They are two distinctly different videos so I am sure there is no copyright infringement between the two. Ken, That is a wonderful piece of steadicam history to have resurface. Thanks! Good to hear you are doing well. We mid-timers of course know who you are and of your significant contributions. Best, Richard Davis LA
  6. I think GPI actually does them. Check with them and Preston. I know they can be done afterwards. Rich Davis LA
  7. :P Peter, Not so much anymore I am afraid... With almost all rental houses supplying taps those, albeit nice to have in your kit are less necessary. Well hang on a sec. Say you're doing a HD job and for some reason you don't have a down converter..... Jam that Eyepiece tap in the eyepiece and wham bam you're in biz! OK, Now answer honestly... Are you still carrying an eyepiece tap with you everyday ? Really???? Really???? LOL http://www.steadicamforum.com/style_images...icons/icon4.gif Rich PS Eric, Do you still want those cables back?
  8. Peter, Not so much anymore I am afraid... With almost all rental houses supplying taps those, albeit nice to have in your kit are less necessary. I will agree with Ron the Gimbal and post offering good value.. Best, Rich Davis PS BTW Great seeing you at NAB, Peter.
  9. Call GPI. They have a rental set. best, Rich Davis LA
  10. Damn it Nick I was going to buy it because of the free sticker... Forget it. Rich Davis
  11. Also been using QB for MAc for years now for my corporation. I think it is great. Even with a PC based accountant QB lets you send backups of your files in a windows format for your PC based accountant. So I just e mail the books to the acountant who can open them and go to work. 12. To veer it back off tangent... Re: SSR We did have an issue after my last post. The solid state recorder has a redundancy ,I believe , so if you have a dropped frame etc.. You can go to the B side and or reboot and you can retransfer it NO PROBLEM. BUT, you have to discover that as you are transferring to HDCAM SR. If you just roll and walk away you can miss problems... Problems that can be solved if you catch them but not if you don't watch your transfer. At this point I would say it is fairly imperative to have your "loader or DIT of whomever is transferring from SSR to tape watch CAREFULLY and check tape thoroughly before they erase the drive. We lost a series of takes.(because we just keep rolling because it is tape) I have now subsequently heard that there have been other productions that this has happened to. I also feel it is imperative for us to guide our crews regarding this issue. If Productions and the studios decide that it is too dicey using the SSR, we are going to be the ones who will suffer. So please heed my warning so that we don't lose this important tool. I hope this made sense I am tired. But this is an important warning to Genesis SSR users. Best, Rich Davis LA PS I would be happy to explain in more detail just call or e mail me. 818 681-8742
  13. I looked at that thing and it didn't look like any of the holes lined up with ones on the decimator or anything... maybe I was missing something. They could have been under velcro..... ~Jess I could not figure out it's alignment either. Rich Davis LA
  14. Many years ago I asked Ted Churchill about Stair work.. He looked at me, paused and said, " I don't do it, I hire it out" I think I would like to invoke that answer regarding all my potential unicycle work.
  15. "The SSR does have "cue and review" (visual fast forward and rewind) as I recall but I can't remember exactly how it is done--I think you hold down a function key and then use the forward/backward clip buttons or something. Dominick at Panavision can tell you." Cool Charles Thank you... I will play around more on Monday. Dominick is slammed right now... Not a single film camera being prepped there when we were prepping. Best, Rich Davis LA
  16. Mike, They do not do the ramps... You have to fly the SRW -1 for high speed. Bummer. Compared to the SRW-1 the SSR (Solid state recorder) is about half the weight, give or take maybe 1/3 . (not sure of exacts I don't carry a scale like Ron... or nearly as much Lisisgav for that matter. ) Much more reasonable to carry but still heavier than the ARRI D21 I was carrying... but was connected by fiber to the DIT. Good luck, Rich Davis LA
  17. Now if they could just make the SSR decks more reliable and drop a few pounds off the camera weight and it would be fine overall. I am currently flying the Genesis with the SSR deck and I am having absolutely no problems with them. I have found them to be very reliable. As a recorder I think they are terrific. (albeit still somewhat large/weighty, because they are designed to withstand rigurous production requirements ) With one button playback (and no way to accidentally erase ) I have stopped carrying my archos. I do miss fast forward and rewind though as they playback from the top of the take. ( my director likes to keep rolling... a few takes in a row. ) Genesis with SSR is still somewhat power hungry. I had Panavision supply a bunch of Dionic 90's (some of which are a bit past their prime.) i am reserving mine only for my monitor (PRO II base )and in case of emergency so they won't have the life sucked out of them. Best, Rich Davis LA
  18. I realized that I did notice some play in that ElipZ battery where it mounts to the camera. Like an idiot, I put it smack-dab between the camera and dovetail plate anyways. (Quote) Ding ding ding. You knew the answer... That seemed to be s a high frequency vibration which is most often a problem near camera plate, or camera connection or donkey box. If you noticed some play, you already have your answer. Best, Rich Davis LA
  19. Nick, Busted... That was me. Since it was possibly the last season, Bill Lawrence wanted to give as many crew members cameos as possible. There was also a delightful cameo of Al Compton (lighting) as pharmacist and a couple others last night. Best, Rich Davis
  20. Do you have this motor for sale If he does not I have a PRESTON DM-1 motor for sale. Not rebuilt but gently used no problems whatsoever. $2000.00 USD Richard Davis 818 681-8742
  21. The camera does indeed have a composite SD output on the back. Which is awesome, because you get full 35mm style room above the frameline output to your NTSC monitor. This comes from the CVBS bnc on the back of the camera. Good Luck. Rich Davis LA
  22. I just finished shooting with this camera out of Clairmont camera on WORST WEEK . We had a Rattler fiber optic system which worked very well. I used one small jumper cable (6 FT) from the camera to my back and the only slightly heavier cable to the DIT and recorder. BEST, RICH DAVIS LA
  23. Alec, Indeed I was talking about the hotel room thing... I am doing well as I hope you are. SCRUBS is on ABC now. We shot those episodes over the summer starting just after the writers strike. I finished in August and then did 15 episodes of "Worst Week" as A cam Steadi. That was fun also, shooting ARRI D-21's . My new favorite HD camera. Who knows SCRUBS may get another season or they may spin it off or who knows. it's hard to predict what studios are doing these days. Thanks for the good words. Wishing you and Jendra a very happy, healthy and prosperous 2009! best, Rich Davis LA PS More warning next time you are coming to town, I would like to drink a pint with you!
