  1. That said, I suspect GB could make magic with a broom stick..... I beg to correct you... He DID make magic with a broomstick... it's now just been refined. On the topic of gear; never have we had a selection of such high quality equipment to choose from... Conversely, never has there been such a bunch of mediocre stuff out there as well. (not besmerching any brands in particular) The old days all we had was a model IIIA, III, II or I. There were no knock offs. Best, Rich Davis  Happy New Year to all!
  2. I use this camera everyday. We run tethered with a Copperhead fiber optic cable link to the DIT who does the recording. There is no way it weighs as much as a 535. More like a LT. Other than the Cable I really like the camera, and as my A camera it is the best HD camera for operators, with a real optical viewfinder with overscan fpr seeing outside of your frame. If you have any more questions I would be happy to answer any you have. Best, Rich Davis LA
  3. The " SCRUB's Curse" Too much Aaton stuff. There are worse curses... for example a "Genesis curse". Best, Rich
  4. Hey Eric, I have a digital microforce and the handle mount. But I only have an Aaton and I THINK a Fujinon cable for it. If you can get cable elsewhere it should work for you. Unless for some luck you are shooting Aaton or Fujinon lens. Been meaning to order the other cables... Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda Best, Rich Davis 818 681-8742
  5. nope, the EFP mounted a AB Battery right to the back of the lower J-Box Beg to differ Eric. There is a sliding rail(not exactly ) and Anton Plate that extend vertically below the lower J Box. It also had an input and place to mount your Seitz receiver(not so useful right now) on the front of that battery plate. So from the picture it is missing some parts. Eric, We need to get beers if we end up on strike again. Geesh. Best, Rich Davis
  6. Have you called the widget master...Tom Gleason? cinewidgets.com Best, Rich Davis
  7. Happy Birthday Alec! Wishing good projects, big checks and never broken gear. Rich Davis
  8. In looking back at these early stills I have found a few gemms I would like to share. An Assistant instructor Travis Clark with the water pistol(Water wars Instructors v students). Note the young lad Jerry Hill in the lower right corner of Travis' photo... Best, Rich Davis
  9. Congrats to you and Aimee. Bella is a lucky baby to have such wonderful parents. Best, Rich Davis
  10. Happy Birthday Josh! Now I wished I had texted it earlier. Hurry up and finish that show and get back here for an ice cold Sam Adams. Be well my friend :P , Rich
  11. Jens, I'm curious what the argument could be to not wear a harness? I have done a half dozen or so step on/ offs and would never do one without a harness and grips I trusted my life with.... because you are. I agree that Titans are the way to go as far as crane choice. Glad it went well and you are safe. Rich Davis LA
  12. OK If they are not reliable, any recomendations for Hytron 50 re-cellers? I have a bunch I would like to do. help? Rich Davis LA
  13. You are setting yourself up for a bad day running any of those cameras without sufficient backup batteries. At minimum you need three sets of batteries to show up to a professional job with any of these cameras. 4 or 5 would be better. Obviously your sled and its needs etc need to be taken into account as well. You never know when you will end up shooting all day long with a power hungry camera and your charger(s) can't keep up or a battery craps out. My two cents. Good luck! Richard Davis LA
  14. The funny thing is I thought I corrected that before I hit send...Oh well. I knew I was opening up a can of worms....That's it I'm selling my BFD. LOL Rich "clearly not a latin major" Davis
  15. Dan P.S. You can tell I didn't go to Michigan by my spelling. "Loose the Ohio State Pictures." I can tell you didn't go to OSU either...LOL Hi to the family, I hope you guys are well. Hasta, Rich Davis OSU alumnus
  16. I also will throw my vote into the digital level being a good thing. (And I believe belongs on the top of the frameline, and the XCS one is awesome ) However, It is a reference nothing more. You as an operator use your experience, judgement and artistic framing abilities to decide how much weight it carries and when to somewhat ignore it (accelerating etc.) . Re: Alec's note that boom mic's could hide behind it... That is the single reason I will only work on silent films. Really. ! ? Lisigav for everyone! Rich Davis LA PS Hi Ashley, are you going to visit us at Scrubs this round?
  17. You nearly had me Ron but NO LISIGAV....NO SALE! Amando, I tried not to micro-manage too much but I'm sure I did. It is definitely a completely different mindset. I never grabbed the post though! Thanks to John Hankammer who operated for me. What a Saint for accepting the job and doing fabulous. Best, Rich Davis LA
  18. Well first of all the socket block is on backwards... Should I go on? Not meaning to be negative. Rich Davis LA
  19. I did but with the P+S Technik and the Prime lens etc it was actually too heavy for two blue springs... Probably could have just done two black springs but it was just easier to put the other two blue springs back in. I was very impressed with how light the PRO arm would carry. I've never had to go so light before. It was actually a lot of fun. Thanks again for everyone's help and offers of help. Rich Davis LA
  20. Thanks Rob, Cedric, I'm sorry I never got back to the forum until now. Exhausted but happy. Shoot went well. A thousand thanks to all that called or offered here. Including generous souls Nik Franco, Josh Harrison, Robert Starling, Rob Vuona and Cedric Martin. Wow I just posted that early Monday Morning and by 8 am ish the phone was ringing with offers of help. What a great resource this is. Flying a PRO arm I could run the hvx 200 and PS technik adapter and Zeiss Super speed prime,Preston DM2 motor, modulous with blue springs (dialed way down)in the arm and no weight cage plate...but it flys a whole lot better with that extra bit 'o 'mass. Surprised by how good that little camera looks. Damn! Thanks again everyone. Rich Davis
  21. All the very best to you Jerry. Happy Birthday. Rich Davis
  22. Hey does anyone in the Valley or Hollywood have a weight cage that would be appropriate to use with a HVX 200. I have dodged these "little cameras " for as long as I could and now I have to shoot a freeby for a friend. Looking to pick it up today(Monday 1/28) for a Tuesday shoot. Please call ASAP if you can spare one. Thanks, Rich Davis 818 681-8742
  23. My TIVO is all set!! Bye the way, for you West Coasters on directv it is available at 7:30 pm so you can get your Charles fix early. Rich Davis
  24. <<I would say that the WGA strike softened them up quite a bit and put a lot of pressure on them for the DGA negotions. If they didn't come to an agreement with the DGA things could have gotten very ugly>> Jess, The DGA has a history of coming prepared for negotiations. They have always gotten good contracts without putting us all out of work on a strike.(they did have a three hour strike once.) The DGA spent two million dollars on research regarding new media and have one of the most seasoned / savvy teams of negotiators. They went into this when they were ready with the goal of coming to an agreement. I respectfully disagree when you say " the WGA softened them up. " It is a good sign that shows when true "negotiations" are being done things can be accomplished. That's my .02. Best, Rich Davis LA full disclosure - (out of work) IA 600 member / DGA member
  25. I respectfully disagree with your connectors on the bottom idea for improved water resistance. Unless you operate with the monitor oriented flat on its bottom the connectors would be more exposed. The standard of putting them on the rear puts them in a protected position from the elements because we usually have the monitor at a roughly 45 degree angle (or flatter ) for MOST applications. If you are going to try to seriously penetrate the steadicam market make sure you include the standard PRO 8 pin Lemo connectors for Power and Video input(or the Hirose for Tiffen sleds). This is what Greg Bubb did when he built the TB-6 and by being plug and play with existing rigs . Best, Rich Davis LA
