  1. I know of him. He's had no formal training - no workshops. The KC Chiefs bought the rig and found this guy to operate it for them. He's not part of the forum or steadicam community as a whole. I'd rather not reveal his identity...
  2. This happened in Kansas City yesterday. Not good. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured. Still wondering about Op's visibility, spotter's whereabouts , etc. http://www.kansascity.com/sports/article173839351.html This link has a clearer look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=po74Rgno6_k&ytbChannel=The%20World%20Gone%20Crazy

  7. yuh know, I've been on the forum a bunch of times since January 14th, but just saw this now! Little slow on the uptake, but can you really be shocked? I'm a Deadhead... Plus, I've been super busy. Still am... So, David...what's this all about 9 months late?
  8. Will, You should ABSOLUTELY send that reply under some phantom identity. I was feeling all dejected and left out, cuz I didn't get the spam! Then, Today I was browsing my spam folder before emptying it and, sure enough....there it was! So really...what is the object of this message? Would it be the Nigerian Inheritance scam where the guy sends you a check for double the amount of promised wages, and has you send send him back the difference and BAM...the check bounces after 2 weeks, Or is it simply to find out our addresses and raid our garages? I'm thinking the easiest place from which to compile all of our email addresses is the SOA website. Just curious, did anyone get the spam who is NOT an SOA member? Not a guild member? It's a shame, because we want people to find us to hire us, but not James Brown....
  9. I'm guessing you're concentrating on rentals in the NYC area/Northeastern USA?
  10. When's the party? Doah! Maybe we can pass around a forty of Crazy Horse or Old English. Also, I'll bring my private stash of Thunderbird and Boone's Farms' Strawberry Hill.
  11. Sydney, Dennis & Jess, Thanks for the tips. Looks like "back & forth" across the border (a few times a week) might become a reality for me, but not for a few months. That gives me time to check it out (customs and insurance)and drink many margaritas and Tecates. -Paul
  12. Thanks, Jess. I'll check with Customs for both directions for Tijuana where I'll be crossing. California might be different that Texas. I won't even start commuting until May, but it's already on my mind
  13. Hi folks, I'm watching this thread pretty closely, too. While we're on this subject of to-and-from Mexico...How easy is it to take the rig back and forth across the Mexican border during a typical border crossing?. Looks like I might be living in Rosarito part-time. The only experience I have with this is taking Grip & Production trucks to-and-from and using a customs broker both directions. There is usually a one or two day lag while the the trucks are being inspected. Has anyone had experience driving their Steadicam rigs in either direction - just, you know...driving it across? My nightmare scenario is having the American customs guys disassembling every component looking for a small bag of drugs or whatever.
  14. Alexander, During a conversation yesterday with Mr McDonnell about HIS AR, I remembered you. He's already "chimed in", so there ya go. All the recommendations in this thread are sincere and spot-on. The gist of the above advice is THIS: That you'll outgrow the Pilot as soon as you get it out of the box (does a pilot come in a box?). Especially with weddings and such, you'll want to add a wireless audio receiver, maybe a mattebox and something to pull focus wirelessly. Even though your budget is only $2500, wait until you save some more and you can afford a used Flyer like This one or That One that comes with some decent batteries (you should really have at least 4) and a charger that you can move up to your next rig with. I'm using those as an example. Or, Rent a bigger rig. I checked all your posts and didn't find evidence you'd taken a workshop. Eric makes a good point. Start THERE, then if you want to buy, do the research, make the calls, be patient. You'll be glad you did.
  15. Fortunately, yes, Brian. Time DOES heal all wounds. I'm able to talk (and laugh) about it now... Plus, I got a great Halloween costume out of the deal :D
  16. Alexander, Caleb and Mark give sound advice. The decision to buy my first rig (I'm too embarrassed to mention the brand) was based on low cost and heavier payload. "How bad could it be?" was my rationalization and justification. After taking a Classic Steadicam 5 day workshop, I found my bargain rig simply couldn't do the stuff a Steadicam was supposed to. In short, I got hosed, rogered, etc. Then followed a long period of buyer's remorse and depression. I couldn't, in good conscience, turn around sell it on this forum knowing it didn't work. A used Flyer is not a bad way to go. For the less costly rigs, it does a great job so you can earn money for the upgrade. Be patient and wait for the good deal to present itself, too. If you haven't already done so, take a workshop...a 2-day to start and possibly a 5-day if you catch "The bug". Good luck! -Paul "I can't believe I bought a Basson" Gardner
  17. Incredible, Pedro. Thanks for taking the time to post all this.
  18. Dang! Thanx for doing this work and sharing it with us, Chaz! Definitely great gift idea (for myself). I remember the poster, but only after having my memory jarred by this post.
  19. Brian, Just curious...where and how was it recovered. A Steadicam is a pretty unique item to unload, so I'm guessing it wasn't a pawnshop, rather it was recovered in a raid on a meth house in cathedral city or something....(no offense meant to you cat city folks)
  20. Jason, Everyone has pretty much covered most of differences related to Master Series vs. G50. I've had a G50 since February 2010....I've worked with it extensively and, IMHO, haven't discovered any design flaws. I'm pretty happy with mine - it's quiet (no need for lisagav, yet!) I fly smaller cameras, mostly TV: SD & HD, and I find the greater vertical boom range indispensable. My two cents... B)
  21. I started a new Topic under the heading "The Tango" for the many future posts since this thing is way cool...
