  1. Hi all

I've read all the posts about cleaning and lubing the bearings and I must say thanks for all the expertise and tips and know how.

I was wondering though, how to clean the bearings on the side of gimbal I.e tilt/roll?

I've watched the tutorial on PRO website, but was wondering is there another way?

Do u submerge the whole yoke in alchohol oR should one take the bearings out, or is spraying them with contact cleaner enough?

  2. Hi all

Sorry if this has been said but I didn't find itm

I would like to clean my gimbal and I see one should use Arri oil to lube,

Is this oil the same stuff they use to lube the camera mechanism or is it some kinda other generic oil?

  3. hi all

i would like to buy either a preston or bartech

i would prefer if it came with evertyhing i would need such as motors/cables etc.

however if there are motors/cables out there that are for sale i will also be keen to take them off your hands!!

    same goes for preston/bartech components!!

    kindest regards

  4. I have some equipment that I am not all that familiar with. Basic internet searches have left me stranded and I'm going crazy. It is marked as a Preston MDR-2 Microwave Transceiver. I have no clue if this will only work with certain other equipment or what...I don't own any other camera equipment and am looking for some help....what do I have???? Junk???

    Hi

    Its not junk!!!

What type of work do you mainly do? if its live.... not so sure you can get away with the IDX. I flew the Nucomm CamPac2 on Ídolos Finale, Live-to-Air show in São Paulo this year on the Tango and it worked rock solid also.

    hi all

@alfeo : i dont have a specific field, we tend here to work across all mediums, from broadcast to features, Ive also done live sports events as well. But when i was as an assistant i was only doing commercials and features.

Thanks all for giving opinions its really appreciated, i will check out all of those

  6. hi all

sorry if this has come up before..

ive been reading the posts on various HD transmitters and i would like to buy one.

the problem is that its s little difficult to test out systems as i live in South Africa

so is is no real "local" manufacturer and pretty much everything has to be imported or (in most cases cheaper to fly to another country and pick it up myself), i actually will be doing this in febuary/march im travelling to London to buy some gear.

All i really have to go on is my fellow operators opinions and experiences on what gear to purchase.

Now since im already going to London i was wondering if there is any HD tx/rx system i should have a look at thats worth buying?

I want to buy right the first time on this.

are there any really good value for money systems out there that i can look at?

Or is it a case of spending big on whatever gets recommended here?

    Any opinions would be appreciated

    kindest regards

  7. Hi

    I have an LMB-5

I would get the LMB-15 its way cooler I think it may be a touchbe heavier though I can't recall

U can't go wrong with an arri matte box (probably more expensive)

And I think its the only light weight mattebox that fits the Zeiss superspeeds as the 80mm back-clamp extends the mattebox as it doesn't fit otherwise because of the viewfinder

  8. hiya

i wouldnt buy a camera, to much admin

i would howeva as a DOP buy stuff like, filters, lenses, camera assesories (might annoy a couple of assistants)

a DP i worked with quite a lot when i was an assistant has approx 50 or 60 filters maybe more (4x4 and 6x6) as well as a full set of ultra primes, (10mm-180mm) 2 or 3 canon zooms, both optimos (24-290& 17-80 i think)

    angenuix 25-250 and the 17-102

maybe he has added more to the package i dont know :P

he has stayed away from assesories as he believes that an assistants investment area.

so i would start with that as that stuff will last you your whole life

    regards

  9. hi Blair

good to hear u got your rig!

ive done a couple of free/student films, and let me say i am shit scared of them. They have no idea what they are doing and have no idea of what you need.

Yes they are nice to learn on because you know more than them so u can do whatever you like and everyone will be non the wiser.

One big word of advice, if u have a good friend that is a working professional (pref a grip, fortunatly i do that i trust with my life as already saved it) take them with, have them watch your back and then buy them lots of beer afterwards.

one of my first shoots like this was, running through a wooded forest, now with amateurs its scary shit. i will never do that again unless my dear friend is with me

i also make them pay expenses so that they appreciate your value, ie petrol, food or whatever. If u totally free no-one will give a shit and u gonna be taken advantaged of big time. And u going to be sitiing around alot by yourself as them being students (1st AD who is high and outside smoking cigs and on phone during a sync shoot, and who has never heard of the term "check the gate") etc

Anyways just be very carefull when you agree to do these types of shoots

    kindest

    richard
