I have had to work with a standard size fiber cable and what I do is a trick I learned from Jerry Holway when he would work with cabled cameras. That is I run the fiber under the shoulder hump of the camera and down the post to the gimbal. I then run the cable betwixt my fingers on the gimbal and wrap the fiber around my arm. it goes down the back of the vest and exits to the wrangler. this photo here shows when standard fiber is used.

The thin cable I run along the rig's arm and it exits off the arm to the wrangler.

  2. So cameron is wanting to shoot films in 48fps HFR.

ive not seen hobbit (sp?) and may not as its not my bag baby, but what do you mates think/feel about the "look" of 48fps and higher(!!) pictures?

Ive seen LCD displays that have like 120 or more HZ and the images look like video or live. Its a different look for sure..

    what say ye?

  3. Chas,

much success to you sir. i remember many years ago on the old forums i would ask you lots of questions and would always get kind responses from you. you and Anthony hardwick have went the way to DP. your work as an op will be missed (and those shadows i used to find in the pictures you operated on.. :D)

again, thank you of being so kind to me and best wishes...

    Dan and now Chas... :(

  5. Mr. Germond,

the 1450 is a fiber camera. I have been flying it wirelessly for over a year:

mogami jumpers will work in this instance. see above photos kindly. i run HD SDI into the monitor with return video (SD) and also send HD SDI out into the link system.

in response to the link system, its is a blessing. i love it.

The 1450 is only similar in size and body style, otherwise it is completely different. The 1450 is a Triax camera while the 1500 is a Fiber camera, so Mogami 1354 coax will not help you with the 1500. The 1450 also is short an SDI2 and a Prompter2 connector, and has a different menu structure.

Hey Marc, how do you like that Link system? I may be the lucky beneficiary of some generous corporate spending pretty soon here. I've only got to fly the system once.

  6. Michael,

i fly the 1450 on an Ultra2 which is basically the same as the 1500 and a link HD wireless system daily. if i can take any photos for you or anything else, i am willing to help. i am looking to have terry west make some mogami 1354 jumpers for me.. maybe give him a call if you can not find the jumper you need...

  7. All,

you cats who are using/used the LINK wireless system or similar , im kindly looking for options to relocate the LINK box and Anton Brick up to the top of the camera in a horizontal configuration (cam is a sony 1400). anton bauer didnt have any brackets when i inquired a few months ago. would appreciate any feedback.

    -marc a.

  8. im using the ultra2 Cine with a sony 1400. had a tally cable and it did the same thing.

tiffen released a newer version and it has worked just fine.

i would contact tiffen to see if they can swap yours out.

Tried to get tally using the tally cable from Tiffen. I had tally from the camera control into the camera, but when I tried to use the cable, no tally on my monitor.

When I switch on the rig, the tally light on the monitor flashes red once. So that should be working. I suspect it must be the cable. But want to check out all possibilities before I have to buy a new cable.

I have the U2c with the 700' nit monitor. The cable has always worked when usinn it on my Archer.

Anyone experienced anything like this? Also tried turning the tally sensor on the right hand side of the top stage.

  9. for anyone still looking...

someone was "recording" the "walk" and they cut it down to a few minutes. they used whats called a "flipcam" which is a tiny little camcorder shaped like a pack of cigarettes. so its real shaky and the resolution is low so hopefully you can atleast get an idea of the walk... we were live the entire time, save a commercial break where we had to stop and wait so as not to get down to the studio too soon.

  10. gentlemen, thank you for the replies!

yeah we winged it. the producer came up to me that day and asked if we could do that. i said of course! :-) the only thing we did a head of time was see where the mics, floor packs, and ifb's would go out since the show is aired up in CNN but that studio we ended up at was down a floor and in another section of the building and we were using two audio systems--CNN domestic and CNN international. other than that we just "winged" it.

what all happened was we did a little pre-tape of a package that was going to run while we were walking down to the new set, so when that played we were in a little tiny box walking down to the studio. i did DJ pretty much all the way because i didn't want to be behind him. a couple of shots i floated the horizon a bit because as i said it was all winged--we had security hold doors open and people stopped on the escalators because we had to go down 2 . we had folks stopped along the way.. lol

we got down there sooner than the story that was running ended so we had to slow up so i just told him to talk to someone so he did. but we got there right as that video ended and the video starts as what you see.

the reason you heard the chatter form the control room is because viewers want to hear that stuff and see what goes on behind the scenes.

i will look for the other section that proceeded it and attempt to post it.

i appreciate your replies gents! :)
