  1. jeff,

thanks for posting this. i have wondered how it looks and your photo does it.

its also good to see another cat here at cnn. i do Steadi here in Atl at CNN with old school Triax!!! i use triax adapters but still!! you big city noo yawkers get all the good gear! :-)

i use anthony violanto's method and it has worked really really well.

  2. i have tried nearly all of the tips save Mr. Holway's over the years with some varying degree of success but the one that Anthony Violanto posted has been a gold mine to me. I have used his technique since he posted it and i am quite pleased with it. even on those few thick multicore jobs i get from time to time, his tip works for those scenarios. since i use a FM vest i'm not sure if its different for BM vests however....

  3. Didn't have time to take photos from this job but I know I have a photo from the first time I flew with a ring light.

...There might be a picture of it on the forum somewhere from a few years ago?

well i remember when you spoke about this and i had the thread bookmarked but my bookmarks were lost when the forum did an upgrade.

    anyway the thread is here:

but your photos are missing dave....

there are a couple of nice photos of Daniels Rig and a ring lite...

  4. had a shoot with the RED. the weight was really nice. the silver spring flew it very nicely. no down-converter, so used the monitor off the camera. the photo shows how the Red Monitor was first setup because we had an actress who had to roll out early so we just set it that way. subsequent setups it was placed to clear the antenna on the Bartech.

it mated right up with one of my long cheese plates which was also nice. it was great how you could slide the camera body fore/aft without having to strip it off the cheese plate and re-locate it on the cheese plate to, say, get a better balance fore/aft.

there is definitely a small range of view with the Red Monitor, but its so lightweight the Rig didnt know it was there.

boot times (from a cold boot) were like booting up windows, so i would stand and stare at the little Red icon on the monitor until it said it was ready.

The modular make-up of this camera was really a blessing. you can configure this thing in many ways.

again it really flew nicely on my old school Masters. the setup was simple. not a lot of wires, just the BFD and motor.

once a roll (card) was exposed, we all went over to the MAC and smoked over the clips. Red makes a QT clip that you can see right away--again very nice.

no Red Drive obviously so i wonder how the drive will weigh in...

looking forward to working with it again.

  5. hey dave,

the operator must have had a AR because i saw no roll in the horizontal axis on those fast whip pans... !

    afton,

next time i see a pixar article im going to read it. this movie was very well made. i know the render times were out of this world.. i think ill peek over at the sister site (cinematography.com) to see what they say...

  6. i saw this with the family and close neighbors last week, and i must say pixar did an amazing job at the tiny nuances (sp?) of what you saw in frame.. some of these shots lok like real life footage that was integerated in the movie.. the rubber peeling off the tires on the track.. the refletions in the cars paint... etc etc... it was simply amazing! i have never seen one of these pixar cartoon movies before but i was totally amazed...

ooh.. it was funny as heck and had a nice plot also.. so an all around fiun movie for all to watch...

  7. good old dave! haa... only in LA....

afton, thanks. i did the exact same thing sans the hand wash and dryer.. i just hung them up and let them air dry.. i was afraid they would shrink if i dried them in the dryer... il try the hand washing trick next time...

    thanks again...
