  1. To anyone interested, I am an LA-based op in BC for the VIFF until Oct. 8th. I'm interested to meet anyone local and shoot the shit about BC production, local norms and practices, the community here, etc. I'm bouncing from wifi to wifi so just send me an email if you want to meet up: nielslindelien@gmail.com Thanks!
  2. Hey all, I am an LA-based Archer 2 owner and operator who might be looking to source a Tango for a show I'll be opping on soon. Does anyone in the area dry hire their tango? If so, I would love to get a quote for a one-day rental. Feel free to email me at nielslindelien@gmail.com Thanks
  3. I was in a similar situation not very long ago. I eventually decided to go with an Archer 2, mostly out of personal preference. I owned a Flyer for a while before that, and always received tremendously good communication and customer service from Tiffen. That kind of relationship is too good to walk away from. Secondly, I really enjoy the unique innovations that Tiffen provides. My first opinion of the motorized stage was that it was unnecessary, but as I started to use it, more and more I feel like I can't live without it. Same goes for the tilt head. Both tend to get a good amount of wow-factor out of people on set as well, which isn't bad. The Tango certainly isn't for everyone; it's for a very specific market with specific shots, like dance or music videos. If you work in a market that would be sold on it, it's probably a good investment. Otherwise it isn't. I work with several directors who try to push the limits on camera movement, and tools like the Tango are very attractive to them. I don't know enough of them yet to consider owning one yet though. If you want to check out the A2 in LA I'd be more than happy to show it off. Do research to choose, but Tiffen and Pro are both great systems.
  4. Hey guys, My Decimator blew up and I need to rent a downconverter for a job tomorrow night in Pasadena. I need it to run off P-tap power. Give me a call at (323) 804-4146 if you can help me out. Thanks!
  5. Jim Bartell got me set up with a replacement. Thank you.
  6. Yeah, I called him first. Unmatched service, but alas it is the 4th and it seems Jim is enjoying the holiday as he deserves to :)
  7. Hey guys, I'm in the middle of a job and my Bartech died. Is there anyone in the LA or OC area with a wireless follow focus I could rent for tomorrow? I'm supposed to be on set again at 10am in the city of Orange, and I'd really like to not let these guys down. I know I should be carrying my own spare but I'm just not there yet financially. One day. Thanks for your help and I hope everyone is enjoying the 4th! My number is (323) 804-4146. Feel free to call at any hour.
  8. Hello all, I apologize for the newb questions. I have done as much research as I think is possible and I still am dumbfounded by some aspects of batteries. Maybe I am somehow missing something. The only batteries I can find available for sale are around 14 or 15v. Am I correct to assume that these are "12v", but are initially a higher voltage so that as they discharge through 1 cycle they maintain at least 12v? In a 12/24v switchable sled, is the 24v created by placing two 12v batteries in series, thus requiring me to place two batteries on the sled when operating a 24v camera? Also, since the 12v batteries are actually as much as 14.8v, won't an initial potential of nearly 30v negatively affect the camera in some way? Am I correct in thinking (for example) that a battery rated at 14v and 140Wh would theoretically power a camera drawing 10 amps for 1 hour, or a camera drawing 2 amps for 5 hours? How does framerate affect the power consumption of the camera? Any help on all or just one of these questions, or even a point in the right direction for more research would be most appreciated. Thank you all.
