  1. Hey I'm curious where did you get the caps for the sdi's and the lemos... or did they come with the monitor?
  2. I guess the grass is a little burnt no matter which side of the line your on. :P
  3. I agree with Brian, The Smallhd has been a great monitor overall. I have since placed a little filter over the fan port that hopefully stop the infiltration of Dust into the interior of the monitor. I'm positive I'll need to have it sent in and cleaned out. Hearing about the water problem on the Cinetronic is unfortunate because the sealed aspect of water resistance is the whole reason I was purchasing the monitor, But on the other hand I have been using plastic wrap on the smallhd when its raining. Its protected from the water but horribly reflected.
  4. This Photo is a worst case scenario. We had an 8x8 silk on a very sunny day.
  5. I have had the Smallhd for a while and Haven't had any problems with it. In Most conditions its perfectly bright enough. The reflections are the only problem. I would actually say that the SmallHD is a tiny bit more bright when looked at straight on, That being said the Cinetronic excels in the situations the Smallhd has problems (reflections). Which can be tough to see through. Especially with the polycarbonate screen protector on it. But taking the screen protector off isn't a good idea. The Nushield Ar screen protector they send with monitors has some effect on the reflections but it doesn't help perfectly. I actually just ordered a Gen2 myself. I worked out in Agua dulce for a month and the Smallhd sucked in enough dust through the fan port that there was always dust on the face of screen in-between the protector. I had to take the protector off 5 or 6 times a day to clean it. I look forward to the sealed design of the Cinetronic. I don't have a specific plan of which one is the backup monitor but I liked them both of them.
  6. I poked around with the Ikan version of a follow focus for about twenty minutes... walked away from it got close to it...with the controller. . it seemed to do just fine. It's a no frills device from what I could tell. it will auto calibrate from what they said. I asked them to do it and there was some kind of hiccup with it. I started taking to someone around me and about thirty seconds to a minute later the guy said it's working again. He had basically very little knowledge about it. Although he was doing a good job explaining it for the amount of time he had it. which was 1 or two days I think. I couldn't seem all that bad. it was well machined. but very simple. I can't attest to it's viability on set but i didn't hate it.. The motors were heavy... at least the high torque ones.
  7. You'll need to run the atomos through your monitor. Hopefully it converts hdsdi to hdmi. That's the only way the ninja star will work with non hdmi cams.
  8. I've been using this monitor for a while now and have found that although it is reflective I do t have too much problem seeing it in any atmosphere. I was just working on a show out in agua dulce ( deser'tish area) for A month and aside from the dust. I never wanted for more view ability. Even when the monitor screen was covered in dust the peaking was good enough that I could judge focus. Clouds... No clouds. The cinetronic has an awesome ar coating and is bonded which makes reflections void. This is something smallhd are considering as an upgrade. (I just asked, I'm at NaB). I hope they come through with it but if not. The monitor is bright enough and the peaking is the best. So do t worry. Side note.... Forget about SD card recording. It's not happening. They decided not to continue that part of the software. Go ahead and but an atomos ninja star. Cheap and seems Lika a good deal .
  9. Just curious do you have a focus puller? Either way your nailing it.
  10. Who or how did you do the regular sdi ports? Can you put up a little diy tutorial on what you did to make that happen? Along with the lemo power. I can imagine your are soldering a tiny sdi cable to the din lead? Please post it if you can... the brass din connectors keep falling out of my hyper deck.
  11. The front polycarbonate screen protector is very reflective. If you take that off and apply the screen protector that they supply with the monitor its much less reflective, but still not perfect. That said the monitor is bight enough so you can usually see through most of the reflections.
  12. I have a Teradek cube 155 for sale. I would like to get $1500 If you want to monitor on an iPad this is your way to go. This is the hdsdi model PM me if your interested
  13. I don't think they have the yoke on the website. I would send them an email.
  14. Here are a few pics of my new sled. From AP. I still need to cut the carbon rod for the yoke. The small hd was a little wider than the rod that the yoke came with so I had to get a longer one. But I love the way this thing packs up. And the options for where the monitor can be are great.
  15. You know I'm not positive what you have to do to get down to 11 pounds. I haven't ever had to do that. You would have to take out a few springs I would imagine. But the springs are pretty easy to take out. But if you have a full set of 16 springs in you have a pretty good range. I had 7springs in each section for the last 5 or 6 years and i haven't really ever had to add or take away springs. But I have two more springs in my box just in case there is something heavier.
  16. Well, I'm in LA. I'll be back on the sixth, your more than welcome to check out my arm. I'm not sure what size the post width is. I've never tried to use a different sled or vest with that arm. I'll check it out in a day or so.
  17. This picture is with out springs and the socket block attached. But it does have a adjustable friction for the post
  18. I would just like to reiterate that the AP arm has 37 inches of boom, a 77lb weight limit and is buttery smooth. :-) It's only 12 grand new... As well as it's a really well made arm and looks pretty cool too. Not to be a cheer leader or anything.
  19. Hey Mark, what are the orange anodized bits on the side of the monitor for?
  20. Looks nice. As soon as I get home ill post some pics if the smallhd on it. I really like the possible configurations you can get with this yoke. Closer to you farther away. And it's really quick to change.
  21. +1 for the Actioncam. I don't think it's really given a chance here in the states either. I know most of the guys here mostly have or at least talk about Pro, Xcs, Tiffen, Satchler, but the Action Products Rebel arm will do up to 77 lbs and is very smooth. It has a much longer boom range ( 37" ) than I think all the other arms. Correct me if I'm wrong. It's a very easily upgrade able system because you basically just add more springs to the arm. There are 8 springs possible in each arm section. As far as I know the arm isn't a knock off of any other either. It has it's own unique system which is very simple and easy to repair. Although I haven't heard of anyone having any problems with their arms ever. The vest is super comfy. Adjustable to all sizes of human being. It's a back mounted vest so if you are a front mounted vest kinda guy it might not be your preference. But I like it a lot. I don't mind a front mounted vest either though. Instead of re posting exactly what Mark posted ill just go ahead and say give Action Products a look. They are a good family run company that makes a really quality product. I think if more people tried them out they might like them. If your in LA you can come by and check mine out. No probs. cheers
  22. Either way it's an eggtastic new piece of gear :-)
  23. Yup yolk.... Hahah Maybe that should be yoke.... :-D !
