  1. I will be putting the SmallHd high bright in this little puppy.
  2. I just recieved a new yolk mount from Action Products. It's really great. It's very rigid. It uses a 19 mm carbon rod to rotate on. It will adjust to any monitor out there. Best of all it has many different configurations. It is mounted on 19 mm rods to the sled but I believe they now have 15mm possibilities as well. Thanks Action Products!
  3. What is the boom range of a pro arm and a Tiffen arm?
  4. I think I can speak for Max V. and myself that I love my Action Products Arm. It has a great weight range 11-77lbs, a great boom range of I think it's 37 inches. It's pretty light weight. It's really easy to change the weight capacity. no tools required. just a couple of thumb screws. It's quick to change as well. It's super smooth from top to bottom. It's machining is top notch. I'm positive the Pro and Tiffen arms are great, but the Action product Arm kicks butt and hasn't ever given me a reason to trade to one of the others.
  5. Ok, I have had this monitor for a while now. It's been sitting in the Pelican case doing nothing. I hadn't looked at it for a while and now that I took it out I see it has some shallow superficial scratches on the screen. It seems as though its from wiping the monitor. Or possibly from some foam... I"m not exactly sure. You Cant see them until the monitor has the sun directly in the frame. It's still a nice monitor but I would say it's b quality now. I am including the yoke with it. It is meant to go on a baby pin. I had found a baby pin with a 1/4 20 on the other end which worked on my sled. you would probably need to adapt it somehow to a different rig unless you have a centered 1/4 20 on your sled as well. It was $150 when I bought it. I would like to get $1100.00 obo Let me know if Anyone is interested. 661 378 8016
  6. I just looked at this picture. It looks sort of dark but it was a pretty bright and the sky was all white and overcast.
  7. Ok so this morning in eagle rock was particularly over cast but still bright. I know that pictures don't really do monitors justice. There will be no picture of the sky... As per Eric. But here is a picture of the monitor. This is with the AR coated screen protector from Nushield. Also this was tilted so that the white sky was directly reflected off of the monitor. This is to show that with a little bit of Anti reflection help. The brightness of this monitor is pretty good in bad conditions. Since I don't have the Cinetronic with me I can't compare the two again, but I will say that these conditions are normally tough for monitors. So SmallHd Dp7pro HB +. The $14 Nushield Dayvue screen protector are a good little combo. Cheers
  8. A little update here. As I've worked with this monitor, I like it more and more. I have found that the peaking function is really great. Even when the peaking is cranked all the way up its a subtle effect that is really useful. It can be tough to see if your focus is nailed when looking at a monitor on the bottom of your rig but the guys at Smallhd must be carpenters because peaking works like a charm. Also, I recieved the nushield dayvue anti reflective coated screen protector. Although it doesn't take away the reflections off the screen completely, It worked pretty well for a 14 dollar add on. So all in all I'm pretty happy with this monitor so far.
  9. Ok guys I have some new pictures. Of a Cinetronic and the SmallHD side by side. I would like to preface this post with the fact that I like the Smallhd monitor a lot. The UI and build of this monitor are quite nice. I have never owned a monitor from Smallhd until now, but I have used a few of them over time. I don't own a Cinetronic but was impressed by it. Brian Freash, and Charles Papert and I put together a little side by side test. In person Both of these monitors look more viewable than what it looks like in these photos. I will say a little bit about them both. The Cinetronic was the more viewable in all situations I think because of the Anti-reflection coating. The Cinetronic has a very good one. In my opinion the Small HD is actually a little bit Brighter in Nits possibly. But the Reflections on the Smallhd at this point are very noticeable. We took off the Polycarbonate screen protector. We all decided that it only made the reflections worse as it added another layer to look through. In Direct sunlight no clouds both monitors are easily viewable. The Reflection at certain angles is what will make the Cinetronic win out. I personally like the contrast control on the Smallhd Better. In some of the pictures it is tough to see but on the Smallhd there is more detail in the shadows when the contrast is pushed up higher, which possibly will hep you focus better. The Cinetronic smoothed out the transition from blown out to where the detail was. This might be on purpose and be considered the better way to do it. I guess at a certain point its what you like that determines which monitor is better in the contrast area. When the monitors were under the silk we set up the Cinetronic was the clear winner. It took care of basically all or most of the reflections. The Smallhd reflected back basically everything unfortunately. I have been in contact with Smallhd and they are possibly going to offer an upgrade that would add a optically bonded AR coating to the Screen, They don't have a price yet but they said that it would be hopefully under $500. All in all the Smallhd is very Bright and for almost all of the time will be fine for what we do. With a good AR coating the SmallHd will be a lot better in some very difficult situations. The Cinetronic was very viewable in all situations. I think the UI of the Smallhd is years a head of the Cinetronic or any monitor really. The Smallhd has the possibility of 24 user definable function buttons. the first 8 are 1 touch the rest you need to roll the scroll wheel 1 or 2 times to get to. On another note, I ordered a screen protector that has an AR coating on it just to experiment. I will let you all know if that helps in the situations where your under silks . 10. Nothing other than jail time and a lifetime ban on the player would be acceptable. Or hey maybe put a rig on him make him run around the field for hours with it on then push him over just to laugh at his injury. Does anyone know the players name?
  11. I feel like this should be an arrest able offense. Or possibly Assault.
  12. This is possiblly the best thread in this whole forum..... Good Job.... Can all the rest from here on out be like this one? Please....
  13. If you guys are like me you travel a lot. I have found the most awesome travel pillow ever made. You will be very happy you bought one or in my case made one. I didn't want to wait for the kickstarter to have this thing. I still joined the kickstarter and bought one as well. I'm sure the real one is going to be better than mine but the one I made was pretty kick ass. but here is what I used to make one... aluminum sheet yoga mat old t-shirt its called the Napanywhere http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/350280790/napanywhere I recommend this to anywone who is traveling a lot or ever really... It's First Class in Economy!!! Enjoy
  14. I think looking back at the photos taken from the shoot out with the sun in the reflection the smallhd Is better than them. This is what I was trying to show. Now it admit I wasn't able to attend that event. But just Judging from the photos everyone supplied I would say the smallhd is brighter than those. I will take some more photos later on today. Maybe a video will be a better. You won't be able to tell anything substantial until you get which ever monitors you think are good and sit them side by side to see. I personally have not had a monitor this bright before. Besides the old green screen back in the beginning. I am just trying to share the experience. I live in eagle rock if anyone wants to meet up and look at the thing.
  15. Also to qualify this image, the settings were backlight at 100 Brightness at 45 And contrast at 51 You can blast it up much brighter ( which I will do tomorrow ) I just usually like to see the image as the most colorful and vivid as it can be. Cranking It would just be like looking at an over exposed image. I just looked at the picture of the trans video 2000 nit and to me it looks over exposed... Am I wrong? To see the frame is one thing but to see the "Image" is another.
  16. Oh but thanks for the science lesson Bill nye.
  17. Eric, I can't conjure the skies for you, I work with what I have. Maybe tomorrow there will be some cirrus for you. Or I could set up an 8x silk and walk underneath it. That always gets me. Here's a photo without the sun in the image. Fire away Eric.... :-)
  18. Tomorrow I will fire it up again and take off the screen protector. I got a little busy today to really test it out. I think a better test would be to put it side by side with a Cinetronic. (Then you can really take pot shots at it, Eric. J/k...) I could see enough to focus in the sun. Like I said before I don't remember what exactly the Cinetronic was like so I can't say its the same or worse.
  19. It's a thing called the sun. Eric, you never cease to amaze me with your comments. Just letting you know what the conditions were.. You know, clear skies no clouds very bright sun...
  20. I don't have a camera right now or else I would put it on my sled and run around with a go pro looking at it. It was a little tough to capture with an iphone what it really looks like. You won't have any problem seeing what your shooting. It's better without the polycarbonate screen protector, but absolutely usable with it on.

  22. just 12 more hours........ :~) hopefully less! Am I too excited about a monitor?
  23. Ok so the monitor will be at my house on Monday 10:30 am. Or at least FedEx says it will. I would love to see a shoot out with the Cinetronic. I will definitlely not be getting a spot meter that's 5g's just to confirm the 1500+ stated nit bit. Chris your welcome to meet up with me at some point and fire off a few spot readings at this thing. I'm in eagle rock. I have seen your monitor a couple times before and it's a nice peice of art. Beautifully made. I did consider buying it as well. It is unfortunately out of my price range. I have too many house projects. Gotta keep the costs low. ;-) I do understand why it's that exspensive though. A lot of work went into it I'm sure. I do wish the smallhd was waterproof as well. I really just think ever using bit of electronics should be waterproof now a days. It's not that hard to do. Rubber o rings are cheap...!! Haha j/k I'm sure it a huge pain to make things waterproof. Every body in this forum should relax a little bit though. Soon the robots are gonna take over and then what are we gonna do. It's already starting.
  24. Ok so spot meter with nits....I haven't looked at my Sekonic in a long time do these normally have nits? It's in a box somewhere in my garage. if it doesn't have nits is there a conversion equation for ft candles? I'm assuming testing in a dark room to avoid ambient light reflections...? With what type of screen color? 18 percent grey, white? I would imagine all colors will give a different reading....? Am I wrong? When I looked at the monitor at NAB the viewability outdoors was pretty great. I will do a little test with contrast adjustments. I'm not too worried about viewability. It's going to be a lot better that the monitor I have now..... and right now I don't really complain about viewability. I am excited to have a monitor with the hardware and UI that this monitor has. I absolutely love the fact that it will record to an sd card... good buy hyperdeck shuttle..... Have I mentioned I cant stand to deal with another broken DIN connector. As soon as the recording works on the Smallhd the hyperdeck is going to be sold... The only thing that I am really hoping for is a way to incorporate an onscreen bubble... Are you still using the tiffen bubble Rob? How do you like it after all?
