  1. Yup, Matt. I just saw this clip this morning, and logged on for the first time in a long while to see if I could find out who operated it. Kudos to all involved in that clip. It was unreal. I was just sent this link with a great interview showing some behind the scenes footage, and info about how they did it. http://g4tv.com/attackoftheshow/exclusives...usic-Video.html

  3. Rich, That's fantastic! Congratulations man. I've had the pleasure of operating a day or two on Scrubs as your wing man (b-camera), and I had no idea that you directed an episode. That is very cool. Of course as fate would have it, I found this thread a couple of hours too late, and didn't manage to catch it tonight. I'll have to pull some strings and get a copy. :D In any case, I'm very happy for you, Rich. That's great news.
  4. Yes, Happy Birthday amigo. Good to see you the other night. Can't wait for the weather to get warmer so we can get back out paddling. I don't know about you, but I could use some exercise!
  5. Wow, I returned late last night from a job that worked through the holidays, and this was one of the first things I read about in an email from David Grove. I didn't know Matt well, but I had met him a few times at various steadicam guild gatherings over the last couple of years. I am as shocked as everyone at such an unfortunate accident. Being an avid outdoors enthusiast, it is particularly sobering, because prior to getting booked on this gig, I had planned to spend this past New Year holiday camping in Baja. Thank you to both David Grove and Will Arnot for letting us know of this tragic accident. My thoughts and heart go out to Matt's family and friends. RIP Matt.
  6. I'm shooting that day, so I won't make Cinegear before the get together, but count me in for the festivities after (wherever it ends up being held). I'm a definite maybe. :D Anthony
  7. In. Schedule permitting, of course. Used to do some technical rock climbing back in high school and university years. Once climbed the Grand Teton (Exum route), when I was 15. 14,600' or so IIRC. It was pretty cool.
  8. Geoff, if you're offering to teach, I'm down for it. Just let me know when and where. I've only got weekends for the next few weeks available. Also, when are you getting your OC-1, and what did you decide on... a Hurricane? My Huki is on order to be built in April. I need a training partner!
  9. A good time was had by all. "All" included: Ron Baldwin (Hero for being an H1 Demi God for all the Hummer peeps there, and organizing this soiree) Greg Bubb (Hero for bringing two Yamaha 4 stroke 250's) Dan Ayers (sp?) w/ his Suzuki DR 650 (Hero for arriving early and securing last shaded picnic bench) Colin Hudson (H1 Passenger and rode Greg's 2nd Yamaha too! Hero for bringing some Subway Sammitches) Erwin Landau (H1 Passenger) Brad Grimmett (H1 Passenger) Mike Whitcomb (friend of mine w/ KTM 640 Adventure) Evan Whitcomb (Mike's H1 obsessed teenage son) Anthony Hardwick (me w/ KTM 640 Adventure) The day was beautiful, and not too hot. Ron took his truck up and down some incredibly steep trails. His handling skills were quite impressive. I am sorry I didn't go for a ride in it this time. I spent most of my time on two wheels. I really enjoyed riding Greg's 2nd 250 for a spell. That was a light, torquey, fun bike. I think Colin and I will soon be getting comparable little machines of our own for these kinds of adventures. Ron, thanks for putting this together, and for taking my friend's son with you on the trails. It really made his year! I look forward to doing it again when I get back later this Summer. Perhaps Erwin will post some pics from the day.
  10. Ron, I got your call, thanks for the invite. As you surmised, I was out of town at the time. I'm back now, and aside from house hunting, I have some time before the next project starts. Let's het the trails some time! Anthony
  11. And my current ride... 2005 (it's a work in progress): Let's Ride! PS - a side story... I just met Seymour Cassell this past weekend. He was riding and I was riding, and I stopped to chat with him. He was on a sweet vintage Norton. After a bit of biker chit chat, he showed me his '69 Triumph T6R that he bought new in '69. Jack Nicholson borrowed the bike once for a week. Anyway, Seymour just restored the bike to showroom condition, and I think I'm going to buy it from him. The bike is SCHWEET! Too bad he doesn't want to sell me his Norton!
  12. I've been known to ride... A few of my rides over the years... 1975 (My first bike - I was 10 yrs old): 1985: (I did the frame up resto): 1995:
  13. Yes, I should be going to Cinegear. It's been a crazy busy year, and I haven't been on the forum much for a while now.
  14. Marc, I should be in town until June 6th. If you're around before the 6th, I'd love to catch up over a beer.
  15. Ron, I wish I could join you! It sounds like it will be a lot of fun. I will DEFINITELY be in for a future outing. At the moment I am in the London Heathrow Airport heading to Copenhagen for a few days. I won't be back until Monday. Ah well, have fun and take pics. As for my bike... it's capable of going places that scare me. BTW, has anyone seen "Dust To Glory," a documentary film about the Baja 1000 race? An A.C. friend of mine, Jaime Felz worked on it, and she appears in the credit sequence footage. It was a pretty cool movie if you're into off road bikes or trucks. Anthony
  16. Ron, Thank you for the invite! I may take you up on that. The movie I'm on finishes this week, so I'll have a few weeks off before the next gig. It sounds like a fun day. Anthony
  17. I'll join in if my schedule works too. I've been motorcycling more than flying lately, but flying's always fun.
  18. I'll either drop beer via avion or ride with John H. and Gregg B. w/ my KTM... or... I'd be okay with on of those seats, Ron... if one's available! My picture will be finished by then, and I will be around 'til May 14th when I start the next one. Anthony
  19. Stephen, As Howard and Charles have already stated, it is very much about getting to the point where you don't have to think about what your hands need to do. It'll come... just keep practicing, and putting yourself under the pressure of operating the wheels on a real show with real shots. You'll be surprised what you can do, and how quickly you'll get comfortable. I choose based on what the shot requirements are. The last movie I operated and the current one are both pictures with considerable sports sequences: basketball and gymnastics. I tend to use fluid heads (particularly O'Connor 2575's) for fast sports work, and geared heads for all else. This movie (for budgetary reasons) is only carrying fluid heads (other than remote heads for cranes, etc.). I'm in the same boat as you Chas, I miss the geared heads, but we've got enough remote head work with Technocranes and regular cranes to keep me from jonesin'. One other piece of advice I have for you is to make sure you use headsets to communicate with your grips when doing crane work. This is usually something that is a given, but every now and then a crane set up will not have headsets for whatever reason, and it's a pain in the arse to coordinate the stops as Chas indicated above. You don't realise how much you rely on this communication link until you don't have it. Best of luck with the confidence building. It'll come quickly.
  20. CP, I'm here 'til about 12/14 (+/- a day or two), then back to LA. Next week will be tough schedule wise for me, although perhaps one evening? I do have this W/E free. Once back in LA, I'll be leaving for the Holidays within a couple of days, but we should be able to meet up hopefully. Maybe we can shoot over to Greg's together as I've got some business to do with him too. I'll give you a ring tomorrow. AH
  21. CP, Good luck with the concert gig! Unfortunately I haven't got any experience operating steadi on a concert gig... only dolly/crane/HH as I'm sure you do too. Oh yeah... Wear black! Anthony PS - CP & Will, in in town for a brief spell. Have time for a beer?
  22. I recently rigged a hand held system with two monitors mounted on a board for the show I'm working on at the moment. We have two cameras working on virtually every shot. The monitors are RCA's from Radio Shack, and we wired them to both be powered with a single Anton Bauer batt on the rear of the board. We use either Proformers or Trimpacks. Either way, the batteries power the monitors for a good period before needing to be swapped. We've dubbed the system "The MI-Vid." MI = "Medical Investigation," the name of the show. It's working great, and the Directors and DP love it. I'll try to take some pics tomorrow, and post them over the weekend if I can. The image quality of the RCA's is quite good cinsidering their size and relative affordability.
  23. Just for claification, this arm is still for sale. I have gotten a lot of email requests for pics, so I have finally gotten around to taking some. I've had a crazy schedule, so I'm sorry for not getting around to this sooner. There are currently three people who say they are interested in the arm with one who has seen it claiming that he essentially wants to buy it, but he is undergoing knee surgery this week. He has not written a check, and is in no apparent hurry, so the arm is still for sale to the first person who writes a check. The price is $11,500.00. You will not find a cleaner used arm for sale anywhere. I can guarantee that. It has just been serviced by Rob Luna. To see the pics, go to: http://homepage.mac.com/wentwest/PhotoAlbum10.html Thank you. Anthony Hardwick
  24. I bought mine from an East Coast company called "Video Village." I believe they were based in Philadelphia, PA but I could be wrong about that. I believe I paid about $1750.00 for one with an antenna, an attenuator, and one cable about a year and a half ago
  25. My girlfriend is a graphic artist, and does quite a bit of web design stuff as well as more traditional layout/poster stuff, etc. I may be able to sweet talk her into designing something cool pro bono. If you want to see some of her work, check out: www.ilovelemonjello.com Let me know if you want me to work on that.
