  1. Hey guys,

I have unfortunately been swamped with photography work and will be selling off my steadicam gear. First to go is my preston G4 system. It was purchased in January of 2010 and embarrassingly enough hasn't been used since November. I should have sold it earlier but again have been swamped with photography. As you can tell from the pictures it is in amazing shape. Selling for $20,000 + shipping. Feel free to contact me at anthonyqfilms@gmail.com with any questions.

  2. Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone knows a better resource to get some Gaff Tape other then Film Tools? I live in San Francisco so it will most likely have to be shipped. The local place I usually go to doesn't carry any colors.

    Thanks again,

    Anthony

  3. Hey guys,

Im thinking about picking up a light weight matte box and was interested by O'connor's new O-Box. I haven't seen it in person but was wondering if anyone had any experience working with it? I can't find specs on the weight? Is it a viable option for steadicam or should I look at the Arri LMB-5? Are there other matte boxes you guys particularly like?

    Thanks again,

    Anthony

  4. Id just like to add another positive review for the guys at Tiffen, particularly Michael. I was getting some tune ups for my rig and they overnighted a demo when they weren't able to fix my rig in time. I haven't been operating long enough to know the poor history that other operators speak of, but the customer service at Tiffen has been top notch for me from day one.

  5. Hey Chris,

Glad you like them. I know what you mean, I have yet to be able to stand comfortably in them for prolonged periods, while I can run relatively long distances in them?? Maybe you can share some tips for back to back hour long takes, I don't think any shoe would save me in that situation:)

  6. Hey guys,

Im wondering if anyone can give some recommendations for leasing companies? In the previous threads there was a recommendation for MaxPro. Has anyone worked with Direct Source Capital?

Finally, obsolescence is obviously a potential issue for certain items in the kit (HD LCD monitors, wireless video transmitters) has anyone used lease without option to own on those types of items? As always I really appreciate the help that more experienced and more intelligent operators can provide:)

  7. Im really excited to meet everyone at the cinegear/steadicam events this upcoming weekend. I will be taking the steadicam workshops next Monday and Tuesday and am in need of a wireless video transmitter for the workshop. Im wondering if anyone in the area might be able to rent me there unit, or could suggest a rental house that carries them. I will be using an HVX200 as the camera if that makes a difference?

Thanks so much and look forward to seeing everyone that can make it,

  8. Thank you guys for the great responses. It sounds like the ring lite is a bit of overkill. I was thinking it would be a good solution for still and video work. But like you guys mentioned all I am looking for is just a touch of light and it sounds like the small bricks will be a better solution. Thanks again everyone.

  9. Hope everyone is having a great spring and it was nice to meet some of you at NAB. Im wondering if anyone with some experience with on camera lighting, particularly ringlites, can provide some guidance. If you could only have one kit between the spot or flood what do you find to me more versatile and more useful? As I have just recently started out in the Steadicam world I am finding myself on a lot of low budget lighting that isn't particularly professional and often a little extra light is needed on the actors.

    thanks so much

  10. Selling a brand new 160GB Archos 605 (Ok brand new isn't entirely accurate- the plastic on the box was removed but the unit has never been used and is in absolutely perfect condition.

Purchased for $270 three weeks ago and am selling for $240.

Hopefully someone will get some enjoyment out of this product rather than it just sitting in the box at my house

  11. There is a really interesting book called "Born to Run" which is worth exploring even if you are not interested in running. Since reading that book I have been a huge convert to the modern barefoot style of running using the Vibram 5 finger shoe. I haven't tried the Mbt shoes but have found the Vibram's improved my posture, could be a placebo type effect and just having them on has made me more conscious of it?

  12. Hey guys,

Thanks so much for all of the amazing advice. I feel so fortunate to have so many helpful operators sharing their experience and expertise. I have attempted to find the answer to this question in the search functions so I really hope this isn't a repeat question: Like many other new operators Im practicing all of the drills that Jerry as well as others have suggested, and as I feel more confident I zoom further and further in. What is the typical upper end of lenses that an operator should be comfortable operating with say for super slow walking or for other typical steadicam moves? I saw a thread on "whats the longest lens" but in more typical operating conditions what should I be prepared to shoot with on a day to day basis. Im trying to evaluate my progress and practice under realistic situations.

Thanks again everyone. I really look forward to meeting you in the future,

    Anthony
