  1. Ants - the PRO arm works fine with all Tiffen vests including the Exovest.
  2. If you are determined to succeed in Feature Film and you have money, I would suggest get a big rig. Sachtler, Tiffen, PRO, XCS are all top of the line rigs. If thats out of reach money wise - go second hand. But I would definitely suggest going for a big rig if features is where you are headed. I have no idea what the UK market is like, but I am guessing like everywhere else, it is competitive.
  3. Good choice . The 4x4 is pretty effective but 6x6 is better for strong wind. 8x8 is a lot of weight and overkill for most applications I think.
  4. Who are the instructors for the creative shot design and choreography section of the workshop ?
  5. I make a bodymount that can take any camera upto an Arri3 or Arri 235. The vest can be worn under clothes and camera can be rigged via any camera plate that has two 3/8th 16 threaded holes on the bottom. Are you looking to buy ? or rent ?
  6. Also - if you were front mounted vests before, your in / out thread settings are likely to be very different. Pay great attention to where the rig floats in your neutral position. In my case I had to readjust in out as well as left right settings on the arm.
  7. Aaron, I also had issues fitting it. I think everyone does because its so different from any other vest in the way it works. What worked for me (and I think Alex Brambilla as well) was to take the second shoulder pad and add it to the first. I also adjusted the shoulder strap angle and I have it shortened to the max. Try different settings. Because this vest doesn't hold your upper body as tightly, it feels strange at first. It took me about a month of trial and error to dial it in.
  8. The guy in the second video is really funny. He is trying to appear unbiased and like he was just another customer. However, I have got to say, that the price is unbelievable. Thats the price you would expect to pay for a monitor bracket or something. I am tempted to buy one just to use the parts for something else. This is a tough one to call. I know it will be a crappy rig, and if you are thinking of flying F55's then I am guessing you are looking into at least a reasonably professional market. In which case I would say go for something better, but if your market is very low end, its hard to argue against this rig. I mean, the price is just ridiculous. In conclusion I would like to say that I have no opinion ....
  9. Hi Rupert - thats not necessarily true. If you are on solely as Steadicam Op, they may decide to axe steadicam, in which case the deal may not be what it appeared to be originally.
  10. Can you post a link to a video ? It will be of much greater use to us to understand what the issue is. Where are you from ? There is no info which kind of deepens the mystery of your identity.
  11. Wow ! Thats got to dent the Epic market.
  12. I have had Actresses on several occasions request that the camera height be raised if its hovering slightly below nose level. There are some Actresses who are very vocal about this.
  13. Is your intention to work as a Steadicam operator for weddings mainly ? Then I suppose you could control your hours and travel. However if you intend to get into working for television drama and movies then things change. I work primarily on movies and a day that is less than 12 hours long is a short day. You will have to travel to where the filming is happening and its tough if you have a family. However the work is rewarding, and to be honest I feel like I get paid to play. You also make good money. But like any freelance work, it is uncertain and can be stressful. There is always competition, and there are many things that make the going tough. There is a lot of competition, and its a cut throat game. Weigh the pro's and con's and decide if it is for you. But 9 to 5 ??? Forget about it.
  14. Peter I would love to know how to clean my pan bearing without dismantling. Can you describe what you did ?
  15. Another thing to remember is about loading daisy chains. They were designed for clipping climbing gear into. The loops are not sewn to handle any kind of dynamic load. They are convenient to use and frequently abused, but their purpose is not to restrain humans. Use webbing slings where needed.
  16. Looks good. Make sure the welding on the speedrail receiver to square section piece is good. There is an awful lot of torque that is being held by welding. Why not consider adding gussets there to strengthen the vertical receiver ?
  17. Jordan - do you mean to say you put a pad in the chest area ? Its not meant to make contact with your chest. Thats actually one of the things I like best about this vest - the lack of anything squeezing my ribcage. Just as an option, add the booster pad to the shoulder section and try it out. If it works for you then I guess thats fine, but give this a shot.
  18. Along with the other comments, I think practice will help. Practice with a static object in frame, and practice very slow. The slower you move, the easier it will be to identify the problems. As Martin Stacy mentioned, you maybe over handling your gimbal handle a little. Make sure the lift on the arm is set right. Practice a lot. Good luck.
  19. Hi Zack, Do you have a distributer in India ? I could not find one on your website. Regards Sanjay Sami
  20. Hi James, I was wondering if you have resolved your injury ? I hope all went well. Regards Sanjay Sami
  21. I asked this question 2 years ago before I started on The Grand Budapest Hotel. We filmed in Eastern Germany through the winter. Of the various suggestions, the jacket over vest helped a lot. Additionally, I also put the adhesive chemical foot warming pads on the chest spar and on the arm. I tried the electric vest, but I had bought the wrong size - expensive mistake on the internet. I used Yaktrax and found them to be very effective, but be very careful if you walk on stone or tiles, they are extremely slippery. I used the Baffin Control shoes and found them extremely effective in keeping warm when I was in snow all day. https://www.globetrotter.de/shop/baffin-control-max-187624-worn-brown And I used the Canada Goose Expedition jacket in between shots. Most expensive piece of clothing I ever bought, but well worth it. http://www.canada-goose.com/expedition-parka-4565M.html
