  1. Hey Kapil, For a backup, try the Bartek. It is tried, tested and very economical.
  2. I did a workshop after many years of operating. I wish I had done it when I started. Its a good investment no matter when you do it.
  3. Does anyone have a contact for Bobby Adams - the Grip in the video?
  4. Pedro - that behind the scenes was great - I have done 5 IMAX movies with Reed Smoot. I have worked with that same crew - Dennis Peterson, Scott was the 1st AC on all of them and Keith was also the director. Nostalgia. A great bunch of guys. Scott had really short hair back then.
  5. That was a bad fall. Could have ended really badly. A little scout of the path before could have prevented it. I am glad he was Ok after taking a toss like that.
  6. Transvideo has always been great. Great product and great service (if you ever need it)
  7. I closed that shop down and invested in C stands with the cash
  8. Get a C stand with a turtle base. If you pull the shaft out of the base, you have a ready monopod. The C Stand is not actually rated for the weight of a full sized rig and camera, but I have been using one for years. With Panavision Platinums, Genesis, BL3's and 535's. No problems so far. Make sure you get a good brand. I use Avenger, because I have a Grip truck full of them. They are really good.
  9. Try Arri Rental in Munich. Not sure if they will sell, but they stock a lot of used parts that are in good condition. We had a similar issue on an Arrihead 2 that we had rented out of Berlin when one of the wheels was dropped, and they shipped out a spare crank handle the same day. It was used, but in good condition.
  10. I have played Rugby for most of my life, starting with school, then college and under 19s, then national , then international and then back to club Rugby as I got older, slower and my bones took longer to mend. Its not a game to play if your limbs are important for work, but it made me strong in both body and mind, and that helps on set. Like Ron, I also drink beer. I like German Weisse beers and Kingfisher lager. Or any other beer thats available.
  11. I bought a 30 kg slice of iron bar stock and cut a hole in it on my mill. My thumbs are not that strong :-)
  12. I use a 30kg weight with a hole in it to take the arm post. It is about the weight of a very heavy camera and sled.
  13. The latching problem is due to the vest being set to the larger waist size. I also had mine delivered like that and it took me a while to figure what the problem was. Once I did, it is a 2 minute fix. This vest is worth the effort of breaking in. It is so radically different that you are bound to take a little while to get it set right. Once you do, you will appreciate the design greatly.
  14. Wow ... great job. Disturbing content, but very well done.
  15. I'm in my mid 40's and I feel alright. I do believe that a pint of beer at the end of a hard day does a world of good. My Rugby coach of many years said this long before the new fangled ideas of ice baths etc became popular. It gives you carbohydrates, B vitamins, relaxes the muscles and mind and tastes good. BTW Larry is in his mid 60's and probably fitter than I am. I know he turned Vegan some years ago, and attributes a lot of his new found health and fitness to this. I don't think I am capable of turning Vegan, even if it meant an extended career.
  16. Does it have to be a segway ? You could mount a Techno 15 with Libra 3 on a Polaris 6x6 quad and get pretty much any shot that you could do on a hard mounted steadicam.
  17. Spending money on the rig is not going to get you work ... I hope that is not your expectation ?
  18. If you stop drinking Summer Shandy, the real Grips will stop being embarrassed to work with you. Problem solved ... You are welcome.
  19. Wow ... I hope he calls me. He can then explain with a diagram how a seesaw works ... Then he can tell me how clever he is.... Then he can explain how reflections and shadows work ( I have never seen one working) If you are so clever Abad, make your brilliant device and put it up for sale. And Ron ... I figured you got those kind of calls all the time.
  20. Doesn't make much business sense not to get one to you. I would be interested to hear from any live operators who do long takes in excess of a half hour in the vest to see how they like it. I agree with Lars Eric. It took me some days to dial it in, but I love it now. It made me iron out some of my postural flaws as well. I still have many others that need ironing out :-)
  21. I am no expert, but I would look for a Zephyr or maybe Archer. I've seen some great deals on used Archers. Look up James Davis. BTW - pardon my asking, but why are you moving to Steadicam ? I've seen Operators move to Cinematographer, but not the other way around.
  22. Hover dolly sounds good - made of space age alloys that make it as light as a PeeWee
