  1. The backwards down the stairs and the car stuff ....
  2. I think this maybe due to the fact that Tom Stern was Jack Green's Gaffer for so many years on Clint Eastwoods movies. And the combination of Campanelli and Stern as Operator and Gaffer is something that he has grown used to as a Director. I am sure it was different when Jack was DoP and Stern and Campanelli were Gaffer and Operator.
  3. Hey Frederick, I may have got this wrong, but it looks like the upright post is being clamped up top with a Mafer clamp ? I am not a big fan of those clamps for anything but lightweight static rigging. I would suggest scaffold clamps for anything with the kind of load that a car mount with steadicam is going to place on it. Regards Sanjay Edit : Just read your full post - I am happy you got good results this time with your rig ... but I would strongly recommend you to do it differently the next time. It may have passed the monkey test, but those clamps are really a bad choice for vehicle rigs. Use scaffold tubes and clamps. It is MUCH safer.
  4. I like your short DIN to BNc's I am powering the Hyperdeck with a Ptap connection. Is that what you are doing ? Do you have a separate power source for the monitor ?
  5. And hope like hell the ziplocks dont burst
  6. I think both those workshops will be great. Look for who your instructors will be. I think having Garrett and Jerry as your instructors is hard to beat. Shame Peter Abraham doesnt teach any longer ... but the one in Philadelphia sometimes has Larry McConkey as an instructor ... which would be a hell of a bonus. The rigs are just equipment ... you can go to a trade show and see the length and breadth of what is available and try them all on. You can compare rigs against each other at the same venue. What you should look at for the workshops is who is going to be doing the teaching ... don't think I could explain it better than Peter did some posts back.
  7. Looks like a slick solution. Do you have any issues with the sandwiching that may affect the monitors ability to radiate heat ? Ive been scratching my head to find a good mounting solution. It just is such an inconvenient size ...
  8. I think that the message people here are trying to get across is that no one here is opposed to technological advancements or innovations. In this business people keep inventing new products or modifying existing products to come up with new tools. Why would we not embrace a new tool that expands our arsenal of weapons on set ? When the Technocrane first came out, it was revolutionary ... no one thought that this piece of gear is going to put us out of work. We thought that this is tool that will make our life easier. Contrary to what Shawn believes, the more complex a tool becomes - and the Movi on Steadicam is a lot more complex than a good old Steadicam - the more critical it is to have crew who know what they are doing. Ask anyone who has had a Technocrane on track with novice Grips ... your life will be made miserable. Try coordinating Pickle operator, Arm operator, Chassis operator and Camera operator. It is not easy, but when done by seasoned professionals, can be beautiful. The same will be true of running a Movi on Steadicam. There will be issues to be sorted out, and maybe they will be, and maybe they will not ... I personally do not see the benefit of the system, but that is my private opinion, and maybe I am wrong, as I have been in the past. Your obnoxious attitude may have gotten a response from us, but believe me, not ONE of the operators who are responding here are threatened by it. If all you are going to do is slap a GoPro on and run around your yard chasing your dog - go ahead. But in the market that most operators on this forum are in, its not the weekend hobbyist who is going to take our place ... much as the average guy on Reduser might like to believe. When, and if, this makes it to the market - we will be the guys operating it.
  9. He doesn't care if he ever sees a Movi or not. He knows he will never hold a Movi or steadicam ... he is a frustrated truck driver who wants to be an operator ... Leave him alone, don't distract him while he is driving.
  10. I use them, and they are great ! I have lots of different pieces and use them for mounting MDR, recorder, transmitter etc.
  11. I am sure some of the German operators will be there ... and what Will said :-)
  12. I think she should have been in a white dress for the big wide helicopter shots ... she kind of gets lost in that dress. Was the camera weight very off centre left to right ?
  13. If its just for the one day, why not rent a rig if that's an option ?
  14. Pawitter, There is no high quality rig that will fulfil your needs. The rig that you are looking for, will not fit in your price bracket. Having said that, I own a Steadicam Ultra 2 with G70 arm. I used to own a model 3A, and when I was looking to upgrade, an operator who I trust and who is my friend, Larry McConkey, recommended the Ultra2 to me. Its what he now uses. I went with his suggestion and have had them for several years and have NEVER serviced either, and they still both work flawlessly, after years of hard service in India, Turkey, Greece, Germany, Australia, Africa, The Middle East and all over Asia. They have seen rain, snow, ice, sleet, sand and salt water ... Germany's coldest winter and India's hottest summer. I can highly recommend Tiffen / Steadicam. Robin Thwaites who represents them in India is a man you can talk to and a man who stands by to help you. Get in touch with him.
  15. From the crew united website, it looks like Thomas Gottschalk is a steadicam operator in Munich. He used to be or maybe still is Klemens' 1st AC. Very nice guy. Will never turn down an offer to drink a beer.
  16. I meet him in Berlin everytime I am there ... so maybe you are right. His first AC Thomas lives in Munich, so I thought Klem did as well :) Dont know anyone else ... all the other German operators I know are Berlin based.
  17. Is there something you needed answered urgently ? You have been through the ordeal of signing up, so I am guessing you have something important to post ... or was this it ? By and large this is a great community of extremely helpful professionals at the top of their game, who take time to help fellow operators out. If you knew the body of work put out by the operators who contribute here, you would realise the value of being a member of this forum. It would be a shame if you do not have the energy or the inclination to participate in this forum. Good luck. BTW - nightmare is one word.
  18. You are definitely in the right town to grab a beer ! I think Klemens Becker lives in Munich.
  19. Movietech markets the dolly as the ARCO. It is made by Cinetech Italiana as the Falcon and re badged by Movietech. It looks like the PeeWee in the same way that a Basson or Chinese equivalent looks like a Steadicam Ultra 2 or PRO rig.
  20. At the time I bought my Hybrid MK3, Brownie and I were the only 2 according to Chapman ... I am sure thats changed ;) As you said ... by the time its all done, you are in for a lot more bucks than just the dolly, although the Hybrid is cheaper than the PeeWee 4.
  21. Flemming - I agree, its not apples and apples. Its just that I was struck by the complexity of rebreathers, and the fact that they are also very small run numbers, and that they need to pass very stringent quality control parameters being a life support apparatus. The fact that a monitor costs about the same seemed somehow wrong. Rebreathers would probably not sell in greater numbers than monitors I suspect.
  22. Australia and India are not that remote. They have sold dollies to both Ray Brown in Australia and me in India. They will not sell in Thailand or so many other countries that are more 'remote' than India and Australia. Besides, the much cheaper knock offs from Italy are always available, if thats your taste ... but thats a Glidecam vs Steadicam discussion ;)
  23. Yeah ... with remote head. its just the PeeWee 4. The 3 plus is cheaper as is the Hybrid 3.
