Today I had a recurring issue with my Batteries shutting down. I have IDX Cue 150's, and they are just now a year old. The issue that occurred is that 10-15 min after having fresh batteries put on my sled, the entire rig shut down. I would check the LED meter on the side, which would show no lights. CRAP! When I remove the battery, the indicators show full charge. I put them back on, and everything powers back up.
This issue did not begin to occur until after lunch, and happened four times. I've never had this problem before, so am really confused by it. I'm nervous that this will happen again tomorrow during the middle of a take. Granted, it is very cold right now and we were outdoors most of the day, but I've shot cold before and not had this issue. A part of me wonders if it could be some kind of result of the battery charge cart being outside, rather than a heated interior/truck.
My batteries stay on chargers until they are needed. This is something I make sure of, especially during the winter season. If anyone has any insight on this with IDX, or even Anton Bauer, please let me know.
Luckily, the show I am on right now also uses IDX Cue 150's, so I will work with theirs tomorrow and see if this still occurs. Who knows, there could be an issue in my battery stage I'm not aware of. I sure hope not.
Aaron,
Thanks for contacting our service department. You are in good hands. Once we have an update on your batteries, we will be back in touch.
Thank you,

Old thread but wondering if there is any more info on multicast with the CW-3? I'm currently trialling both the CW-3 and CW-7 units from a local supplier in a video assist configuration making portability rather important. Both units perform brilliantly but the size of the CW-7 has been a problem. Would be using with one transmitter and up to 4 receiver units mounted to the back of 7inch LCD monitors
Hi Jonny,
This is still in development. i hope to have an update for everyone soon. We'll keep you posted.
Thanks!

Which is the best flight safe IDX batteries to run an Ultra 1 sled from ?
Hi James,
All IDX batteries have passed the “UN Manual of Test and Criteria” and are flight safe; however, li-ion batteries over 100Wh (CUE-D150 & DUO-150) are limited to 3 per person (one on the camera/device and two spares).
An unlimited number of batteries can be carried on if they are under 100Wh (E-HL9, E-HL9S, E-HL10DS, ELITE (with cartridges removed), DUO-95, CUE-D95, CUE-D75).
If you are ok with the quantity limitations on the +100Wh batteries, I recommend the CUE-D150 or DUO-150. If quantity limitations are an issue, I recommend the E-HL9 or E-HL10DS.
All the above recommended batteries are high-draw capable (10A/120W constant) and are powerful enough to power your sled and virtually all 12V cameras.
Here is a link to an illustration that explains the limitations of air travel with li-ion batteries.

Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Does that apply to the cw7 as well?
Hi Jens,
Yes! However, the CW-7 will need to be sent in. If you'd like to send it in, please email me.
thanks!

Does the CW-7 have the same mandatory 60 second startup time? That's been my ONLY frustration with the CW-3 by IDX. According to IDX, to use DFS, they are "required" by the FCC to scan all frequencies prior to linking... so that means 60 unavoidable seconds from receiver power on to picture up on monitor. IDX claims it's an FCC requirement, and yet the Bolt 300, 600, 2000 and others that use DFS link in under 5 seconds from receiver power and still use DFS (probably links on a lower frequency in 5GHz and then swaps to DFS after 60 seconds).
Otherwise, been very very happy with my CW-3. Swappable antennas, etc.
Hi William,
We have a new firmware that reduces the link time. Please send me an email at zachary@idx.tv and i'll send you the instructions.
thanks!

Hi Zack,
Thank your for the info, much appreciated. Let's say we have a camera that draws approximately 100W (Alexa with Aks), and I'm powering it through 2x E-HL10DS in series (24V instead of 12V) wouldn't the power draw be higher than what the battery can handle (100W vs 95Wh)? As I know, when two batteries are in series, the voltage doubles but the capacity stays the same, whereas in parallel it's vice versa. Thanks.
The cells inside the E-HL10DS are designed for high loads(10A/120W loads). As Tom Willis mentioned some batteries can and cannot handle high loads because of the battery cell chemistry ratios. For example, the IDX CUE-D95(www.idxtek.com/products/cue-d95) has a 91Wh capacity, but can only handle up to a 6.3A/76W load. This is because the cells used in this battery are not designed for high loads.

Hi Christopher,
For high load camera setups in which weight will be a priority, we would recommend using either the E-HL9 (www.idxtek.com/products/E-HL9) or E-HL9S (www.idxtek.com/products/E-HL9S) batteries. The E-HL9 & E-HL9S batteries are both 87wh batteries which will be able to handle 10A/120W loads while weighing in at only ~1.6lbs(each). These models are available and shipping now.
Another option we would recommend is using our upcoming E-HL10DS(www.idxtek.com/products/e-hl10ds) battery. The E-HL10DS will be an economical 95Wh high load battery with an onboard 50W D-tap(to power accessories) & will weigh approx. 1.76lbs(a little larger than the E-HL9/E-HL9S). The E-HL10DS will be available/ready for shipping by next month. Please also note that the E-7S battery can only handle up to a 4.6A/50W without experiencing cell damage. Therefore, to prolong the life of the E-7S battery, we would not recommend using it battery to power high load cameras like the Alexa if possible. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Does anyone know of any place in or near Detroit that sells and have in stock IDX 14.8v batteries? Let me know. Thanks
Hey Dan,
here is IDX's dealer locator: http://idxtek.com/dealer-locator
type in your zip code and a list of dealers will populate. Not all dealers stock but it's worth giving them a call and finding out.

Multi cast?
Is this using the large or small Amion Chipset?
Hi Thomas,
no multi-cast at the moment. our CW-7 system does multi-cast and supports PsF. Would you like to see these features on CW-3?
We are using Amimon chipsets but I cant expose the exact models ;).
Thanks,
Zack

Frame delay?
Hi Afton,
The signal is uncompressed; this gives us a zero frame delay (less than 1ms).

Zack,
love the design and size, can you let us know when and if the PSF support will be enabled.
I'm talking with the engineers in Japan about this. Stay tuned!

Hello,
I have been facing a problem concerning wire-less video transmission using my WE VI WIRELESS system. This problem has only been happening during this year. I am using a SONY PMW-320 and my transmitter is of the model IDX CD-5HD.
The problem is that my recieved image on the monitor is breaking up into a black screen for about 2 frames at a very short distant rate.
By short distant i mean it breaks up when i am right next to the reciever.
I have tried changing cables and even tried changing cameras but the problem is still present.
The problem is not a RF (out of range problem) but a random black cut which i beleive is considered as a video signal problem.
Please get back to me i would really appreciate your theories or possible solutions.
Thank you.
Elie Azar
Hi Elie,
I am sorry to hear that you are having issues with your transmitter. I'd like to help identify the cause of the problem but i will need more details from you. Please message me your contact info and I'll be in touch to get more details.
Thank you,

Hi Lars,
Thank you for using IDX batteries and considering the DUO-150. The DUO-150 is a great battery for your rig and the cameras you fly. The DUO-150 can handle 10A/120W draws just like your PowerCube batteries.
The main differences you will notice between IDX batteries and cheap copy batteries are quality and performance. IDX battery cells are balanced and come from the same production lot; this results in superior performance and longevity. Many cheaply made batteries contain cells from multiple production lots and are not balanced. This can create excessive heat, especially in high draw applications, which can lead to damaged battery contacts and damaged equipment.
Here is a link to a bulletin we issued regarding IDX batteries vs. cheap copy batteries: http://idxtek.com/sites/default/files/pdf/ProdGuides/ProdGuid%20BattManuf.pdf
On the bulletin you will see major differences in the manufacturing quality.
Let me know if you have any questions; I am here to help.
Thanks!

Hi Philip,
If you are looking for an alternative charger for the Sony-F750 battery, I would recommend taking a look at the IDX LC-2S. The LC-2S is a 7.4V 2-Channel Simultaneous battery charger that is going to come standard with IDX's 2-year warranty.
You can find more information regarding the charger at the links below.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. (george@idx.tv)

Adam brought up a good point. Protecting the battery terminals is always recommended and is technically required (not always enforced). Gaffers tape works great but anything to cover the terminals will work.
