  1. Hi Erwin. Thanks for your fast reply. It's too bad that there isn't something similar in Europe somewhere. Even though the bags are cheap compared to other stuff we usually need to buy I don't want to spend money on something that might never get here. The other website in Florida looks interesting but I guess they have to custom make my bag. Maybe I can find a place here where I live who can make them as well. If anybody has anymore insight on what's happening with modular 51 please share.

  2. I have been trying to get in contact with modular 51 for some time now. The contact email form on the website always times out when I try to send a request and the telephone number I found on this forum goes straight to voicemail but no one calls back. Are they still doing business? I'm interested in buying a sled bag but since I'm in Germany I can't just stop by their address and check it out ;). In case modular 51 doesn't exist anymore does anyone have an idea where I could get a similar bag?

    Thanks

  3. We used the cube on a 3D studio shoot a couple weeks ago and it seemed to get the job done. The delay made it not the right tool for focus but almost all departments had their own iPad where they could check for their needs and even go back to check on all previous takes that where uploaded via FTP to a server. What also made it a great tool was the fact that postproduction which was in another city could inform us about little changes needed for the 3D conversion of our footage. I don't know how video village set everything up but I guess a combination of a bolt and a cube system could get you pretty far.

  4.

Is anyone wrapping their gimbal with some tennis racket grip or similar to avoid touching the freezing metal?

I put some on about two years ago when it wAs really cold here in Germany and have left it on since. Helps a ton.

  5. while you are in Munich tell the Arri engineers to fix the frappin Alexa eyepiece! It sucks balls.

It sure does. Keeps falling off all the time

The request to change that is already on my complaint list for cinec.

As far as meeting up. I'll be there on the 23. and 24. I hope you can make it Sami. And Ben I would like to have a drink with you also since we didn't get to that after wrap a couple days ago. It would be really cool to meet you as well Erwin!

    C U there!

On the current feature at the beginning people made fun of me... now at least five crew members are looking into them including some grips and the director...

Convincing them all... one at the time.

I have made similar experiences :)

For me it's 5F all the way!

  7. Ian Fox showed me his mod that Tiffen made... it was an adjustable angle third battery mount that screwed into the battery rails and allow one to swing the 3rd battery from directly under the post out and upward towards the monitor, very cool in my book.

You wouldn't have a picture of that by any chance?

  8. Marcus,

It's good that you posted it. I wasn't intending to seem critical of your posting.

Mark. I didn't take it as criticism. I really think you are better qualified to judge pricing in that category :)

Sarah! Good luck on your future purchase. I'm sure you'll find what suits you and that you'll love operating it.

In that light, I'd say the Mandy listing is overpriced for a Flyer (even if it is an LE, which is not clear from the ad) with no battery and charger. The first gen Flyer in the DVInfo ad looks like it's priced closer to fair market value.

I'm sure you have the better inside on lighter sleds than me Mark. I just ran across the offer and thought I should point it out ;)

  10. The Blackmagic Designs

    2.5k 12-bit RAW camera for under $3000

    Yes it is real!

I heard the rolling shutter could be a real issue on that thing. Other than that it looks pretty much unbeatable price wise if you don't need more than 30p. Especially because the package includes DaVincis color correction software. Hope they have it at cinec here in germany later this year.
