  1. The retainers are missing. JA
  2. I was on an event with one of those. During the camera meeting it dropped from the sky and hit the deck about 20ft from us. The crew said it was a computer glitch. Good to know. The failsafe mechanism did not work.
  3. XCS TB6 monitor for sale. Very low hours, well taken care of, recently serviced and checked out at XCS. Does not have frameline unit. $4500US Thank you! John Atkinson johnatkinson3@mac.com
  4. The problem is you are controlling a digital lens with an analog controller, and they don't always play nice. The best thing is to turn the lens zoom speed to it slowest usable rate then tweek the centering pot to each particular lens. It's usually the lens that is just too sensitive to the analog device. All in all I love this system and it works great most of the time. JA
  5. Mike, If not I have my WRC4 that works beautifully and was serviced by jim Bartell. You could probably buy this for less than repairing the other unit. John Atkinson Johnatkinson3@mac.com
  6. I received a response last week from Don Wetzel that new batch of motors was due and will be shipped this week. The first time I have heard directly from him since January. Looks promising. JA
  7. Jim Bartell is the guy. Years ago He fixed my first unit. JA
  8. I always do a short deal memo stating everything mentioned and get it signed and returned before you start the job. -Rate/hours -rental days and rate -Hotel, transportation and per diem -Insurance requirements and policy -Rain policy. Usually within 24hrs-full day, show up at call and released or begin shooting and released later-full day, before 24hrs notice 1/2 day, etc. JA
  9. I wouldn't call it a demo reel, but more a sample of a shot. I understand your new and lack footage. A reel is a sample of your work in the form of the steadicam moves and the level of work you have accomplished. This would illustrate your steadicam skills, pacing, composition, etc. Best of luck with your new rig. JA
  10. Wireless for this would cost more than renting another Triax/Fiber body. Doing the job will only make you look bad. When anyone sees the work, they will think the steadicam operator is bad, not that the equipment was the blame. Take the advice and don't do the job. JA
  11. Steadicam is not a great rental house item. It's very rare someone needs to rent a rig. Most operators own their own equipment with all the custom items they require. You won't get that with a rental house. I rent my stuff to friends who are up and coming or maybe an operator whose equipment didn't make it to the set for some reason. Other than that, most people renting a steadicam may not have enough experience to do a good job with it anyways. JA
  12. You answered your own question. Lighter is better on this type of show. You will need tally, program monitor, lightweight jumper for camera cable as well as the zoom/focus. JA
  13. I'm interested. Any cables? Email me Johnatkinson3@Mac.com Orlando, FL
  14. That unit doesn't look like the same system in the ad photo. Are you sure it's the same unit? JA
  15. The latest version of the marshall does auto flip when it detects scan reverse signal. I pleasantly just found this out. JA
  16. Send me your contact info, I'll take it John Atkinson 6654 Cristina Marie Dr Orlando, FL 32835 407-341-2491
  17. Is this STD 4-pin lemo. How would you rate operating condition? Thanks Johnatkinson3@Mac.com Is has the stand four pin connector you decscribed, I do not have any way to test it. When I turn the gear the motor sound very smooth, near silent. Becuase I can't verify it state I am offering a three day return after the item shipping arrival to test it. Thanks for your interest.
  18. Is this STD 4-pin lemo. How would you rate operating condition? Thanks Johnatkinson3@Mac.com
  19. Plus they have to be invisible, but always right behind you, keep the audience and talent out of your way or vice versa and tech your systems, tally, prompter, program, power. Plus carry your cases and fetch drinks and snacks. The times I was not able to use a qualified assist only made me look bad when in fact it was production making that decision. As you say it is a team. JA
  20. Soon to be Darwin Award nominee
  21. I'll take them. John Atkinson Orlando, Fl 407-341-2491 cell Johnatkinson3@Mac.com
  22. Sometimes it's best to just study and study and then study some more. I found a lot of answers here, including in the monitor shootout thread. I understand now that most lcds are too weak to work in the field. And with the luminance of 300 in the DP6 I guess this would make it very unusable in sunlight. I don't doubt that a lot of people find the DP6 a nice monitor (the glossy effect... same thing going on in Apple products). My friend uses a small HD for camera onboard. Not very bright, very small and not user friendly. He loves it though. From the start I should have told myself that I could apply the same mythology to a monitor like this as I do for monitors I use for retouching, anti-glare is good :) I then noticed the V-LCD651STX-HDMI being mentioned in the monitor shootout, and decided to see what's it about. It's not that much more expensive than the DP6 and alone by the specs I like it a lot more. But thanks for letting me vent a bit here hehe... please do correct me if I'm walking too deep into the woods :D
  23. I hate to say it I have been waiting since I paid for my M-one in January. Was promised it was on the way 2 weeks ago. Nope, nothing! No word either. Now what? JA
  24. I have had the problem as well. It is a temperature thing. Too Cold or to hot and I have seen this. It always clears up pretty quick after cycling through the side monitor switches and the buttons. JA
  25. When you hook the monitor up directly to the camera without going through the sled, then key the radio does it do the same thing? I was having problems at one time and it turned out to be the monitor oddly enough. My service from MK-V has always been spot on. JA
