  1. Just checked out the photo section on her website. Looks like there is someone using an SK with the arm the wrong way around in one of those pictures. (The blurry one second down on the right) and yes I know the difference between the two versions of the SK, but this is literally the wrong way around) How odd! -Rick. Rick; Good eye, a guy who took another workshop about 2 years before, was there the first day. I was having them build the rigs and his group got it all up and going and I look around when he says "This doesn't seem right." and I recognize the issue, lift off the rig and switch the arm and we all laughed. Honest it was a one minute workshop on how not to wear an SK arm. Janice
  2. Dan; I don't have a specific shipping company but the trick with risk it to insure your gear with their insurance for the amount of your deductible. Of course their insurance is a bad deal for its cost so I wouldn't use it for the entire amount but for the deductible in a risky situation it may make sense. (Also, really high insurance coverage will make them suspicious and they may want to open the cases.) Janice
  3. Hi; I just want any type DB to upgrade my rental rig, I hate the old 3A top stage it has and I'd love to upgrade. Janice
  4. Hi all; This is just for clarification, really a kitestore? What does a kitestore do with these rods? Did I miss something in the translation? Janice Arthur
  5. Hi; I found a really slick little Lo-mode bracket for video camera, says it supports 75lbs. www.markertek.com product number = DELV-G1080 It comes up on the home page, so its not hard to find. Its a third of what the others cost and looks to be the same device with even a built in strain relief. Sorry to those other manufacturers. I've ordered one and thought I pass on the info. JA
  6. I can't speak to whose monitor is best but as far as CRTs, they are fast going away. Europe is spearheading the way because they don't want the environmental clean-up of CRTs. (Mercury, and other heavy metals) Sony and the other top man. of tubes are getting out of the business. I don't know a time frame but it's happening fast. At an HD seminar the people were lamenting how that will change how you "evaluate" an image. Portability is the great upside. The other plus is CRTs in fast food places and hotels, and bars, and hospitals take up too much valueable space. Size is demanding that flat panels take over the CRT domain even more. As countries "westernize" the 10s of millions of CRTs not in the homes is staggering. JA
  7. Hi all; I remember when these Powerisers came out and I've always wanted to try them and wondered about some kind of Steadicam application for them? As I see it they may NOT be good for Steadicam, but then again maybe we, as a creative camera culture should be able to find some application for something so cool. (its what you always thought would happen to you when you bounced on the bed as a kid.) check out Poweriser.net or any other number of places that highlight them. Janice one guy (don't know who) wore a set of drywall stilts and did Steadicam, he fell, not a good idea. The guy who was buying his Steadicam later had been told this story.
  8. Hi all; There are now have TSA approved locks that the screeners have a key to. The combination locks can be opened by you and them only. Pelican sells some, I'm sure you can find them elsewhere. www.pelican.com Janice
  9. Hi; I came up with this idea a decade ago and I've toyed with it for years. I've finally gotten someone to make a good one. File this under "food for thought" How about a clamp under the gimbal (where your hand would be) and a little arm that reaches up at an angle to a short post that now lets you operate without reaching and without having to operate above the gimbal. The advantage is is that you now have a lever and you get much more strength out of all those hard to press into action hand motions that Lo-mode always seems to make harder. The disadvantage is is that you have to be nicer to it or you get too much control. Also you have to swish pan with your whole body but I think the handle has some validity in all other situations. When I get the photos I'll add some but now its a real thing.
  10. Nacho; If I understand your request, here is what I've done for decades. Buy the Post Clamp from PRO and it should come with a Nylon washer that stays between the clamp and the arm meeting point and you get no friction and its fool proof. I bought my last one from them when Bob DeRose was around so maybe they don't make them any more? Ask. If you want to buy one from a cheap place try a google search on McMaster-Carr and they have what you want for $8.00
  11. I just bought an EZ-up tent after being caught out in the rain on a job and getting stuck with a tiny portion of the AC's tent. I never liked that they needed several people to move and that the sides have to go on separately but that's all I thought was out there. (and they're heavy to transport) So, on the very next job I find what I should have bought. www.pelsue.com. they make the little (or big) tents that lineman/phone repairs/ etc. use. Its self contained, with the doors, springs into place, very portable, really quick set up. and you can get them in the 6, 8, or 10 ft size. the 6 or 8 ft size will nicely cover a magliner and rig on its stand and you with some head room even. This is under the heading of live and learn. You all can now jump ahead. Janice
  12. Ramon; I've got an extra preston, with all the cables, extras, etc. e-mail me if you need it. Janice Arthur
  13. Larry did do the elevator/accountant shot but others like Greg Lunnsguard (sp?) did the walk through the Sean Connery's window shot. I can't tell you who had the taped up monitor but Larry used his rig so maybe if it was the Panaglide it was Greg. I don't remember if others did any work on the film but I don't think so. Janice
  14. I have a second complete Preston with F/X unit for rent if anyone ever needs it. I also have a second complete Sled, new M/S black vest and, 3A gold spring arm for rental. The package includes a Diversity Tuner, Modulus 2000, and Shark fin Antenna plus any extras needed. This stuff rents separately or as a package. I made this package for those replacements that we all need sometimes as well as for the lo-budget films and things sometimes new operators need to get started with work. Call me, Janice Arthur, at 312 674-0427. Really good stuff that you can afford.
  15. I haven't seen anyone talk about this stuff but the Glad Press and Seal stuff works great for rain cover on anything. It covers in whatever shape you want; it sticks cleanly to everything and its semi-transparent. I use it on everything except the face of the monitor and I put a zip-lock bagacross it and fix it with the Press and seal around the rest of the monitor. Secondly, if you've even had a camera plate spin on you and you've been stuck with using a roll of tape to hold it at a second point. Here's the best solution I've found in all my time and I'm admitting stupidity that I didn't think of it before. Velcro on the camera and on the base plate (a tiny 1-2") piece is all you need and I guarantee it won't move with one camera screw into the camera. Hope everyone is good, I've read the posts before but never took the time to register and actually keep track of a password. Janice
