  1. ...one more thing I found out over 10 years, everybody's back is as unique like a fingerprint. This said, I think everything is possible regarding the healing process. First thing to check-if you didn´t do already- ask your doctor for a MRT. A simple radiography doesn´t show enough.

    Back to your entry question (and because I saw on your website the heavy gear your working with): I never got back to work normally afterwards. Not with photography, neither with operating or (started after the surgery) steadicam work. But I´m quite well and can do more then all the doctors mentioned. And as I said, "steadicamming" became even a part of my daily back training. But my max. weight I´m working with is around 15-18 kg.

    IMHO to get well without surgery is better. Look for as much information as possible!!! There are for sure special clinics in uk.

    Cheers,

    Marc

    Thanks for the reply, Marc. That's all good information and I appreciate it. I have had the MRI and it is as a result of this that the surgery is recommended. I am also having physio but the good news is that the surgeon is one of the best in the UK on this topic, so I'm very lucky. The physio, rheumatologist and surgeon are all in communication with each other.

    It's good to hear that others are able to carry on. I've heard some positive outcomes and spoken to others who were up and running very quickly so fingers crossed it should be ok!

    Thanks again.

    STEADICAM FLYER LE FOR SALE - LONDON, UK

    £3700 + VAT

    I really can't justify owning two rigs (heavyweight and lightweight) at the moment so this one is up for sale. It is being sold as it was delivered when new, but with custom built focus unit mount included. Does not include batteries. V-Locks required.

    Kit includes:

    Vest

    Flyer LE arm in soft bag

    Post and gimbal

    Dovetail plate

    Stand

    Docking bracket

    Monitor (small dead area - very cheap to replace)

    3 pin Lemo to XLR cable

    Allen key for gimbal

    Original soft case

    Home made monitor shade (don't get too excited - it's not fancy - but it does work well!!!)

    Custom built bracket to hold Preston brain.

    The rig has recently been serviced by Optical Support. Please contact them for confirmation, if required. It is in good condition. There are the usual scuffs that rigs get on the arm etc but nothing performance affecting. As mentioned the monitor has a small dead area on it. I can replace this or knock £200 off the price if you would prefer to replace it yourself. This may be a better option as you can choose one that may suit your purposes better.

    Send me a message if you're interested.

    PRICE NOW DROPPED TO £3200 + VAT ONO.

    GPI PRO VEST ALSO FOR SALE, GREAT CONDITION, 1 YEAR OLD, £3300 + VAT.

  3. I am selling a year old GPI Pro vest for £3500 + VAT. Very good vest in great condition. I'm just a fraction over 6ft and about 15 stone to give you an idea of size although it is obviously hugely adjustable as always. It's available immediately as I've gone back mounted. Drop me a line on info@jameslayton.co.uk if you're interested.

    Here are the pictures of the vest...

  5. I have an Ultrabrite 2 on my Pro rig and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any third party digital levels that will plug into it. I'm used to using a TB6 green screen with the level clipped to the rig but since having this monitor i'm missing something to glance at - preferably the lights built in to the monitor - and outside of the inbuilt system on the Tiffen rigs I can't find anything.

    Any ideas? And before you all shout, yes I do have a bubble on the rig! :-)

  7. I heard recently that there was an app in development to allow you to record on board footage to an iphone from a rig.

    Just wondering if anyone else has heard anything about this and if so, what it might be called?

    Sounds like a good idea to me but wondering how you would connect the phone to the output from the rig, especially given the numerous types of outputs nowadays...

  8. Couldn't find where else to send this so I thought I'd post it here. When I try to log in to Facebook connect i get this message:

    {

    "error": {

    "type": "OAuthException",

    "message": "Invalid redirect_uri: Given URL is not permitted by the application configuration."

    }

    }

    Something techy going on. Any ideas?

  9. Does anyone know whether the new Archos players are the most suitable thing for on-board recording, or whether they even function in the same way as the older series?

    I was looking at the Archos 5 here and wondering whether to get one. Problem is i've never used them and don't know whether they're the best option for this kind of thing.... If you do get them are there any extras that you need, too?

    Any suggestions?

  10. Hi all,

    Thanks so much for all your help - I really appreciate it.

    Thanks, James, for getting back to me. I'm working it all out now.

    There's one more thing I want to find out about. Where is the best place to start looking for early work, and how long should I expect to do free stuff for? Basically, I need to cut my teeth but I'm not sure where the best places to look are to get the early work - student films, small videos, internet films etc., so I can get a bit of a showreel together. Is there a good website, forum, place to advertise etc...?

    Thanks for the help, and I know that a lot of this is contradictory to what people would like to tell me, but still, if you don't ask, you don't get!

    Thanks again.

    James

  11. I'm trying to get advice on how to get going after having done my initial training with Tiffen UK. I've worked as a clapper/loader for years on features and I'm keen to move on with Steadicam but I'm having real trouble getting practice in without owning a rig and don't want to put myself out there without the confidence, for obvious reasons.

    Could anyone advise me on getting the practice, or is it really just a case of buying a second hand flyer and strapping a video camera on...

    Sorry if it seems daft, but it's worth asking.

    Cheers.

    P.S. On that note, does anyone know of a good condition, second hand Flyer?
