  1. I'm still very interested, this is the kinda film making i dream about. anymore for any more !
  2. UKscreen.com will let you upload pics that you can link to for free i think, jou will have to register a profile though ! good luck
  3. I always dream of going surfing but in the uk we get 4 foot max waves, unless it's a storm and even then you have to doge all the crap in the sea. Would anyone hook me up in the states next time i'm working over their ?
  4. Great responses guys, I was a bit scared about posting this msg originaly but it's good to see some other big kids around here. Perhaps that goes hand in hand with being a steadicam opp. I normaly skate half pipes in the uk as we have plenty of mega parks these days, thanks to all the little bin liners (rollerbladers) that sprang up a few years agos. When i was younger i must have sprained each ancle about 6 times each, but now their strong as hell, must be all the scare tissue acting as a strengtherner. Or maybe i just got better at jumping off. Next time i'm plannin a boarding trip i'l post a new thread, wheres good in the states ? i know some good mountains in the french alps.
  5. I'm wondering if their are any established steadicam opps that have skateboarded or still do. This is something i have done all my life since 12 years old and plan on doing until i can no more. As i'm moving into steadicam i would love to make contact with anybody with similar interests, perhaps a collaboration could be on the cards. I have never herd of anybody really using steadicam in this genre unless somebody can enlighten me. Also does anybody know if the term goofy footed in steadicam terms, actually came from skateboarding. As this has always been the term for somebody who skates right foot forward as i do. Try to check out "yeah right" by spike jonze for a good introduction to the kinda films i'm making. be kind (never push mongo). cheers matt.
  6. just wanted to leave my mark on such a great thread :D good work ! I hope one day i can be draged back to this forum to answer the critics hehe
  7. Does anybody know where Howard can upload his photos so we can all get a glimpse ? cheers matt
  8. How did you finance your rig ? if you don't mind me askin. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'm sure you'll have heard of Egg Finance? They're pretty good and have quite low rates. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah egg finance, my girlfriend suggested them to me. I have recently found something even better. Business link will offer interest free loans with capted £30 month repayments for the first year. At least 1 good thing to come out of the present goverment.
  9. Hey mark What dv cams have you been using ? you will find most cams are pretty much the same from DV DSR 300's right up to digi beta and hd. I'm thinking that DVCPRO 50 seems to be a good step up from dv. They are the same 4.2.2 color sampling as digi beta and at half the cost. The panasonic AJ-SDX900 looks freaking fantastic, and i've seen them second hand (ex demo) for £9000.click me One thing however i have noticed from this forum is that you don't need your own cam. just a good rig. As far as moving to london, good luck. i work quite a bit in london but would never want to live their. I think somewhere like brighton, leeds or manchester is a good bet (not as much competition as well). laters
  10. You should definatly bring your rig ! i'm sure you could keep it at a lock up at the studios or hotel even ? That way i could have a look too hehe. cheers for the otel details.
  11. hello Mark Where did you grad from ? i was at leeds art collage doing photography digital imaging, then onto a trainee position as a news camera man and program editor. My god i don't recommend the last 1, but it did get me about 500 8 to 12 hour days behind the cam or editing. looking forward to this course more and more each day. i'm gona be manic by the time it comes lol.
  12. Howdy yes i'm sure i'l need loads of pratice after the course, i'm hopin to get my own rig pretty dam soon after. Carn't wait to strap that baby on and get a few blisters. How did you finance your rig ? if you don't mind me askin. regards matt
  13. Hi jase I'm going to get some funding pretty soon from the princes trust and business link. They say i can get an interest free loan of around 8 to 10 grand, i'm hoping that this will get me a rig i can use pro when i'm good enough. Are their gona be any hidden cost's that i should be considering ? I have a great feeling about robin (not that kinda feelin) and i hear great things about him, thats the most important thing to me when choosing a course. A lesson i wished i'd learned a lot sooner in my life. Cheers matt
  14. Reeeeeaaaad ruuuuuuum reeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad ruuuuuuuuuuuum love it. I wounder if anybody on here has ever worked for kubrick ?
  15. I have been with camerasure for about a year click me For £20.000 of equipment cover it cost me about £500 a year ! It's kinda like having a second car but it pays for itself, rarther than costing more than i payed for it. (don't ask) good luck
  16. Ultra newbie question but what is a cage used for ? cheers
  17. I have thought about this same question alot, and have found it nearly impossible to come up with anything from the search forums method. however this question is like asking, "whats best final cut or avid" in an avid forum. Just see what kinda response you get their. anyhows i'm in the same situation as you and i've been following steadicams for years. However i will completly hold off any thoughts of what type of rig to buy untill i have done the optex course in a couple of weeks. Perhaps we can repost what rigs we actually got in a few months time. Would be funny to see who got the best deal 'n' stuff. Good luck PS this link might help forum post "sometimes it takes a newb to help a newb"
  18. Hi jason Yeah were on the same course, i must have been mistaken with the 27th. Hey if you give me the number for the travel in i'l join you their. would be cool to have a friendly face to go to the first session with. Are you going down the night befor or traveling down the morning of the 17th ? So how much did your pro-vid set you back ? i'm in the market for a new cam and steadicam at the moment. Sonys HVR-Z1 (cam info) is tempting me but the xl2 might be more usefull with interchangable lenses. I also have use of sony dsr 570's so i might need a rig that can handel heavier cams. Do you have any experience or info on light to medium rigs ? regards matt
  19. Howdy peeps B) If anybody is attending the november optex course (bbc wood norton) please leave a msg. It would be realy cool to chat to people before the course starts. Kind regards 4MaT
  20. I'm booked on the november optex course :D any tips or suggestions for getting the most out of it ? ( apart from brushing up on my french of course) I have never even held a steadicam but everthing i do is leading in this direction. I'm mainly working live music events and docos and doing alot of ninja style running pretending my dsr has a steadicam attached lol PS any sugestions for a complete rig cost for a newb that will be using cams upto dsr570 size ?
