  1. That's shocking but predictable news. The beeb are obviously struggling and trying to bring everybody else down with them. Saying that I know quite a few sky crews that have had rates slashed recently. All this at a time when i'm getting a bigger rig for broadcast work doesn't sound to good. Commercials it is then :) Aaaaargh
  2. The last job I did that exact thing happened ! I know the producer quite well and we were discusing the budget. I mentioned I had seen a really good deal on a RX/TX unit and it would almost be cheaper to buy it than rent for 4 days. He liked the idea and we went ahead and bought it for me. The bonus for him is that he knows next time he uses me i'll have my own TX/RX and my rate won't be much higher. Also I might mention that i've done pass me down jobs for quite a few of you guys and if i'm not busy their always a blast. I find that if the production isn't well organised it can give me more chance offer up shots and ideas. Experimenting on big budget productions just isn't an option but the little student films are made for it. Matt 'workin for the buzz' Burton ....
  3. No, no I think you will see i'm the daddy :o) Matt la boom
  4. RED's looking good to me On a lighter note, Erwin I beat your score on balloon bomber over at steadiforum B) -matt
  5. Sounds like a greate guy though, gota love the old O'g balance for showing off :D Also was very interesting to hear about RED and the okley connection, you gota admire the approach. -matt
  6. Thanks for sharing. Hows the new rig working out Mikko ? Man that g50 sure goes high :D
  7. The MK-V workshop video is online. Well worth a watch or 2. :D Right click Download
  8. I noticed that also :) I was flying an archer with the G50 and 'DW' to any possition seemed easy and smooth. I must say I liked the new gimbol grip on the archer but it took a little getting used too.
  9. Anybody tried 'DW' on the flyer ? It seems about 5x's as hard as it is on a big rig. While I have my flyer i'm going to practise 'DW' as much as possible then when i move up i'll be in good sted. Thats the plan anyways.
  10. This is interesting, I don't get chance to see many long time opps operate. I would of thought 'DW' would be an essential skill to master, i'm kinda glad you guys hate it two. It's just so wrong/hard. I bet you guys have understanding insurance co's  Anybody got dolly like 'DW' sussed going round corners in corridors ?
  11. Cheers Charles, Oh man it's the worst pain isn't it. I used to skateboard full time and have sprained both ankles many many times in the past. Obviously i've had to town down the skating but it was so sunny last weekend i thought i'd just have cheeky go. That will teach me, lucky that this sprain isn't so bad and i'm used to treating them by now. Still it's nice having my girlfriend run around for me, normally she does as little as possible :)
  12. I have one or two you can borrow when i'm not using them, their not dying yet also ! Got a sprained ankle at the mo but working the 28/29/30 of april so i'm hopin to heal fast. drop us a line anyhows.
  13. Have you considered the glidecam v25 ? I was looking at a used EFP but have found the v25 fits the bill and it's brand new. just a thought. -matt
  14. I prepared to offer a reward for the finder of a glidecam v25 in stock and for sale anywhere in the world. I'd also offer a bigger reward for an ex demo model that would work out cheaper for me :) Cheers -matt
  15. That is the funniest thing I have read for a long time. Thanks for the chuckle Bryan
  16. The v25 can be upgraded with standered socketblock so pretty much any vest and arm combo can be used in the future ! Good to know. A good v25 review click here -matt
  17. I understand your position Job, however I feel this subject needs discussing. If glidecam makes a good product then it should be recognised for what it is. It would help if people in the industry knew this too as i'm sick and tired of snobby attitudes. From what I can tell (never having flown the v25) It's a verry profesional tool and deserves to be talked about by profesionals at what ever level they are at. Good points Thomas, these are things that initially put me off the v25. Then I realized that I wouldn't really need to upgrade the system in the short term. I only intend to use the v25 as a stepping stone to a £20.000+ sytem, When I start pulling in big money work I won't upgrade but rarther replace the v25. Plus if I buy at their introductary price then in a year or two I can probably sell it for what I bought it for. Win win situation me thinks.
  18. Are you saying I should stay away from the v25 Tom ? I haven't actually flown one yet but i'm thinking it would be a better option than a rusty old efp thats going to need instant upgrades I won't be able to afford ? The v25 seems to be built on a scaled down gold platform, for the money it looks to be a winner. I need some help here.
  19. Gooooo team job :D The major change with steadicam over the past few years is the type of productions using steadicam. No longer a toy for the big budget feature but now a viable option for indie producers and many more. Also the learning curve has been changed and shortened, due to more experienced opps teaching and better equipment to learn on. It's all good from an aspiring opps point of view, and also a big head thrash for the founder members and pioneers. When 2 years ago i found this forum i didn't post for nearly a year until i had questions that i hadn't seen answered before, or i needed something explaining so i could understand it better. Now i've been operating for about a year and everything is making perfect sense thanks in most part to help from members of this amazing forum. I'm equally amazed at the fact glidecam is getting a bashing at the moment. Even steadicam has had some shocking steadicams like the steadicam mini ! that was a bunch of crap but evolved into the flyer i own today ! Same goes for glidecam, sure they have had rubbish products in the past but now the have the wonderful v25 and the solid gold system. these systems deserve some big consideration as they are perfect for low to mid budget productions, music video's short films promos etc. Personally i'm looking at getting a v25 upgrade yes upgrade from my steadicam flyer. Originally i was going to go straight to a second hand efp or archer with g50. The reason i'm going for the glidecam is it's a perfect temporary upgrade from my flyer and does everything a bog slandered efp does and more. One day i'l be shooting features and one day i will have the best equipment money can buy ! For now i'm going for the products that are supporting me on my journey. When i move to more expensive equipment i will remember those that helped me. -matt
  20. Leigh your in way over your head at this point ! It would be advised to sit back and take in a little more info and experiance bofore offering your advice. I have recurring nightmars from watching that video of your smootharm system info You seem to offer advice as if you have years of profesional experience, why is this Leigh ? -matt
  21. Me 2 that sounds like a greate find Dave. Cheers -matt
