  1. Hey Henry. Idealy you wouldnt want to fly a Genesis with the deck attached, but sometimes you have to. Ive got a Steadyrig arm with silver springs. Was flying an F23 with the deck attached the other week. (Prime lenses, clamp on mattebox, Modulas 3000 and BFD/m1). Didnt have a problem. It was close to the max on the arm, but may have been able to squeeze a bit more about it (maybe a couple more accessories). They are well built, so im sure it would hold up fine. Send Hugo an email. I know they have been selling a few on ebay latley and mite have a couple going cheap. JP Sydney Australia
  2. I had a similar one on an add last week. Production realised that my Steadicam kit included a BFD, they decided that instead of hiring another one for work on the crane, that they would take the BFD off the Steadicam and use it on the crane as well, to save themselfs some moeny. Even though I had a 2nd BFD in the truck on standby, they still made a point of using the "included" kit, rather then paying the extra $200 for a seporate one. Gotta love the penny pinching out there these days hey!
  3. Hey guys. Its just a gimble mounted, thumb activated zoom controller which plugs into the zoom rocker on the lens of video or broadcast cameras. Then Jim Bartell makes a BUZ controller box to allow you to use this on a film lens in conjunction with a BFD. I have been doing alot of live work latley, none of which i would have been able to do without my Libec zoom controller that Jim Bartell hooked me up with to go with his Buz. It has a little switch on it to allow it to work with either Canon or Fuji lenses. The only thing it wont get now is a camera return because Jim changed the cable to a nice flexible one, rather then the stiff one that came with it. I think you can get these and or the Zoe controllers from B n H in New York. I just spoke to Jim and he sorted it out for me! Hope this helps. James Puli Sydney Australia
  4. Have a look on ebay.com theres a full master series kit on there!
  5. Michael, in Australia give Scott Backhouse a call at Lemac Sydney. From memory he has a Flyer LE and or a Pilot in the showroom in Sydney ready to be sold. Just remember the shipping costs will be the big thing for you. Excess baggage on international flights with a large Flyer box will be rather huge. Hense if you are going to do that the Pilot may be better for you. Probably better off buying one from France for France and the same in Australia. JP Sydney Australia

  7. On the reccomendation of Jim Bartell, we got the Libec zoom controller. Used it for the first time today on a horse racing OB and absolutley love it. For what I am doing it is perfect. Light weight flexible cable, small size, flick of a switch to go between Canon or Fuji lenses and it is very very smooth. I hate getting dodgy zoom controllers where they are very clunky. This one has a fantastic feel to it and made my day alot easier and also made my shots look alot better. Having said that, so far I've only tested it on Canon lenses (new HD as well as some very old lenses and some inbetween) without any troubles. I dont want to do an OB now without this! Thanks Jim. Cant wait to try it out now with the Buz control on a film lens with a real motor! JP Sydney Australia
  8. Hey guys and girls! Im looking to upgrade my current EFP gimbal some time in the not so distant future. If anyone has something better lying around (2nd hand Pro, Acme etc) please let me know! Thanks JP jpuli@nine.com.au
  9. Hey guys, I have a Boland monitor on a 3a scissor style monitor arm (De Rose I think) and it works great! Very happy with it. Im just in the process of getting rain covers made for my rig, and wondered with some of the reported heat and fan issues with these monitors, how they will handle a rain cover. Should I build a vent in or something? Any advice here would be muchly appreciated. Thanks guys JP
  10. Hey all, anyone out there have a spare or 2nd hand Pro or similar gimbal lying around the house, gathering dust, wanting a new home? Anyone thinking of upgrading, but needs a little push in the right direction? Oh yeah, Im after a monitor bracket as well. Anything newer then a 3a one, that will hold a Boland 8.4inch lcd would be fantastic. Same for the gimbal, something newer then a 3a or efp one would be awesome! These are the final two pieces of my rig. Please let me know. JP James Puli jpuli@nine.com.au james@steadicamaustralia.com.au
  11. Ron, that Steadicam no#7 is currently on ebay! Steadicam model 1 kit, with an Arri 35BL camera and lenses. $4600 for both at the moment! A bargin for the collector!
  12. Hey dave ... if your still looking ive been lucky and picked up a few perfect ones off ebay at way below normal prices. JP
  13. Yep thats Glen. Definantly not camera shy. They generally use his shots when the swimmers are heading out to the blocks before the race and he tracks along with them. After the race however, he does tend to get into others shots. Ive seen shots of him on the front page of Aussie newspapers, sneeking into the background with your swimmers when they are celebrating a medal. JP
  14. Some of the neck straps ive seen in Music shops are really comfy. They are made for saxophones and other heavier instruments, and used by people for hours and hours on end. JP
  15. Damn, i knew i should have come back to Cinegear this year. Skydiving, jagerbombs, and Steadicam in the same day. Bugger! Make sure you have a jagerbomb for me guys. Happy Birthday BJ, let us know how the Skydive goes!
  16. As crazy as it sounds, id try ebay. Ive found some really random stuff for older arri cameras and various cooke lenses on there. JP
  17. Hey Cesar, Check out the Raptor system. http://raptorddr.com/ I just finished on a series with the Raptor X system, and it worked well for the most part. Fairly basic computer system, just add cables and monitors. It does all your variable frame rates etc and is fairly robust when rack mounted in a case. Otherwise check out http://www.cockpitcube.com/ - this is just software that you can load onto a standard PC system. But you will then need specific video i/o cards, da's, and a pc powerful enough to run it all. I would personally buy the Raptor system as it comes ready to work, rather then having to set up the PC and customise it all myself. And then you get the personal service and support that Raptor offer which are fantastic (consider im on the other side of the world) On the affordable front, you should just think that its going to work for you and pay it self off over the term of the job. But by the time you get cases, cables (or transmitters etc) and a couple of decent monitors you are probably looking at around $10,000 for a 1 camera kit. They are making a HD version but its not available as yet from what i have been told. For HD shows we have been downconverting either at Camera end or at the monitor end. Which ever works in the given situation JP
  18. The other point on this, is that the newer SR3's have nice in built video taps. Where as the SR1's generally dont. You should make sure that there is a tap provided with the camera. Otherwise one of those old school eyepiece taps would come in handy with this one. JP
  19. Sounds cool. Pity i just bought a 1650. Hmmm. The Aust website i found it on didnt have any prices yet and it said it was coming soon. So may not be that older news. www.carryitcases.com.au David - im getting one of Hugo's battery hangers as well, cant wait! JP
  20. Hey gents ... had a ball at NAB last year and after reading everyones posts I only wish I could make it this year. Jim Bartell .... the Jagerbombs will have to wait until next year! JP Melbourne Australia
  21. I've seen the rig in person and it is all what Scott says it is! All in good condition etc. Scott sent it to us to demo at a workshop in Jan (from the other side of the country), and all seemed very good with it all. Hes in Australia and if you want any more info on it just ask. Scotts very open to questions, emails etc. And from what I know is VERY legit. JP Steadicam Australia
  22. Hey Rob and all. Just got an email back. They said that the 6.5 is in development currently, and is not yet a production unit. Also they have made a change to the 8.4 inch monitor as well and its in engineering review right now. THey didnt say what the design change was. So i asked the question and i will let you know. Availability on the 8.4 is 3-4 weeks, which sounds about normal. JP
  23. lol I literally just emailed Boland asking this question! Gotta love the forum! I will post what Bolands response is. JP
  24. Hey Ang, how are you? I've sent a couple of emails to people who may have one as well. Will let you know if I find a copy. I do have a copy of the video manual but it has no electronics information in it. Louis may have one, and I'll ask him when i see him. Also just a point on the forum policy's, we use our names here as usernames so that everyone knows who they are talking to. So you should probably change your username when you get a sec. Hope alls well, catch u soon. James Puli
  25. Me too Dave thanks alot. You should have my name on the list for membership, but if its not please add it for me! I had too much fun at the Cinegear Guild Gathering and want to come hang out again when Im in the States! JP
