The Oldest Arm in Use Today (as well as other fun stories about old gear)
Tommy Stork replied to Beau Cuizon's topic in Arms
This is the first vest that Mark O'Kane inspired, (I think). Notice the hip hugging waist pad compared to what we use now. -

I took pictures of all the original sleds when they would come through but I don't know where I put the files at the moment. I could only find Dave's gimbal. -

You're right Ron, Chris' sled is also #001, (with fixed post) as well as his prototype vest, (no backstraps). I think Dave Emmerichs has arm, sled and gimbal #002. I've serviced all this gear over the years and all it has ever needed is a good cleaning and it's back to the trenches with it. I'm sure if Erwin Landau alighted upon us he could tell the history of the early PRO numbers. George told me one day in the shop but it's a little fuzzy now. I know Haarhoff, Emmerichs, Mark O'Kane, were in the top five numbers with maybe Colin Anderson, Andrew Rowlands, Randy Nolan and Scott Sakamoto in there somewhere. -

Chris Haarhoff has the oldest PRO arm, (serial #001) and he just did Birdman with it and his PRO sled and vest. I'll have to confirm this with Jack on its age but I think it's close to 20 years old. -

If you use this modification you void the warrantee on your PRO arm. You can replace any broken parts due to this modification but it will come out of your own pocket. Refer to my post above.

Hahaha, well, I didn't think of you when I wrote this Mike, but glad you're a member now!!

As Thanksgiving approaches I thought I might suggest to all those in this community that are still on the fence about that hefty $50 (FOR 10 YEARS!) membership fee to just go ahead and give it up already. It's a great way to show you're not just a mooch and thankful for the wealth of valuable information that is found within this forum. I also acknowledge that fifty bucks is a lot of dough for someone who is still eating four day old pizzas and has twelve roommates just so they can make ends meet. Sleep well, you are not my target audience.

I wouldn't recommend this modification for one reason: if you eliminate the rod end bearings, the force that was once applied to them will now be transferred to the next weakest link. What is that next weakest link? I don't care to find out. We replace rod end bearings on a fairly regular basis from operators who use back mounted vests and have rod ends break while vehicle mounted. This is a very cheap fix compared to replacing a link or combination of parts.

AJA V2 analog versus DECIMATOR 2

The AJA HD10MD3 passes a signal through. This is the converter I use and have never had any sign of a problem. -
CineLive Tally as power option for SmallHD monitor?
Tommy Stork replied to brett.mayfield's topic in Sled
That is good information, Jarrett. That is the only way we wire the 0B304 tally Lemo. Pin 3 is only used for carrying the tally signal. Pin 4 is never used. -
AJA V2 analog versus DECIMATOR 2
Tommy Stork replied to JamieSilverstein's topic in General Discussion
AJA all the way. Their products have always been rock solid for me. In the rare event that something has a glitch their customer service is impeccable. Even when enquiring about general product information they have always been very friendly and accommodating. The antithesis of my experience with the folks that make the Decimator (Tecads). -
Just wanted to give a big shout out and thank you to all of our steadicam family who have served in the military. I know Jack Bridges and Chris Bayless at PRO are veterans as well as fellow operator Dave Baldwin. Thank you guys! Happy Veterans Day.

I don't know that thing sans gimbal could have some use for a senior citizen or two or in tool lifting! My grandparents have no exuse for buying not buying me heavy stuff because they can't lift it anymore. -
In my opinion Chris Haarhoff is one of the elite operators working today and this film is evidence of that. It is inspiring to see such masterful work, from any operator!

Donkey box I from George Paddock
Tommy Stork replied to Denis-Noel Mostert's topic in Steadicam Marketplace - For Sale
Denis, you definitely have an original DBII. The current, updated from the original, PRO DBII offering was brought back into circulation with the advent of the CineLive electronics and Gen IV battery rack about 2 years ago. This is a great price for a historically solid and virtually bulletproof piece of gear. -
Hi Kyle, Because you didn't indicate what rig you have I'm just guessing here. I know PRO gear only. It looks like this came from a PRO Gen 1 center post which would make this the brass nut that is on the inside of the center post. What material is this made of? Because of the tarnishing it looks like wood! At any rate if it is from PRO it has a 10-32 thread size and they no longer make them. Your cheapest bet is to do as Eric has suggested and get a helicoil for it. If you want to replace it, call Michelle or Chad at PRO (541-389-5485) and ask if they have the brass center post nut for a gen 1 post. They might have one or two left. As was indicated, there is no need to over tighten this or any of the screws on a PRO sled, arm or vest...ever. If you are having to do this there is something wrong and I would advise you to send your gear in for service. Neglect is by far the most costly part of your kit.

We only make one jumper block for the GenIV battery rack. We DO NOT wire custom jumper blocks for any reason. If an operator wishes to have someone modify a current jumper block or make an entirely new jumper block with non PRO wiring, that is their prerogative AND will absolve PRO of any responsibility should a power issue occur.

Flying the RED Epic on a big rig
Tommy Stork replied to Rod Calarco's topic in Cameras (Film/Video/HD)
Hey, Rod, I always use a V-Lock doubler/sharkfin, when I have the displeasure of flying the Epic. I also have an assortment of flat, spoon type lead fishing weights that can come in handy. I coat them in plasti-dip or tool dip so the lead is sealed and a non issue. I have 8, 12 and 16oz as well as 1 and 2 pounders. I would rather have a heavy sled than move the gimbal down. -
This was purchased as a foot massager but returned because it tickled the feet. So now even slightly more used, if you know what I mean... but make me an offer anyway.
