from what i've heard, the hummingbird draws 1amp power. does anyone out there know what the cp crt monitors draw? (masters series) thanks steve! lucky ba$tard! oh and why are there no pictures of the nexus top stage on the mkv website? privacy issues with the AR base?
  4. those casios are decent. the sony clamshell/tuner combo is the best i've come across. i don't have one, but i did buy a backup lcd monitor from wolf seeburg. it has a built in t.v tuner which i've used in a pinch a few times. not as handy as a clamshell or casio with the power, but you can plug it in at the directors tv land or make make a cable to np1 slot. (which i did) it offers a nice sized 7" ( i think) screen.
  5. hmmm. i'm assuming this is a budget music vid and they don't have the $ to rent the downconverter? if not, and you're getting full rate, why not just find a rental company on your own and rent it personally, then include it with your invoice. or...if it's a smaller budget shoot that just doesn't have the money and the cable going down the post is an issue, attach the monitor onto the camera and look off it there. or you can shoot blind. i've had to do this once on an arri 3 gig with fried video tap. we we're wide the entire night, and the footage turned out great. good luck
  6. any tuner adaptors for these like the sony monitors clamshells? would be a killer alternative to a clamshell no??
  7. paul (or anyone with lyras experience) i was looking at the lyras about 10 mins ago at best buy. seems a lot cheaper than the archos for the 20gig model. how does the resolution compare? anything else you'd care to mention? the best buy actually took it off the shelf due to the 1st unit they had breaking in 1 day. have you had any issues? does it seem flimsy/cheap? how about an external tuner to make it into a clamshell type device...any add on's here? overall happiness? thanks
  8. do you hook this up to your sled to record video and then for playback? if so, do you need the cradle for an rca in/out? what's the battery life like on a full day shoot? is there a tuner adaptor or anything like that so as to send video to the unit wirelessly??? never heard of the archos, sounds neat.
  9. ok, keep your $500 p/week kit rentals and $36 per hour gigs. minimum i've heard of us producers up here paying is 2 day per/week kit rentals and an hourly marginaly higher than $36. blame it on canada. puhlease. you guys are great at finding fault outside the border. :-)
  10. i think i recall pics of marc abernathy and he sure looked black (sorry marc if i'm way off here :-) fwiw, i can shake my money maker to outkast B)
  11. "the pity is, you get what you pay for" not in the case where they hire an experienced op for $500/wk - gear!!?? that's insane! i remember some of you guys bashing canada a while back because our crews worked for less than yours did. now you're doin it to yourselves. i think this is my first post on the new forum this year as i've been shooting in russia and india the past 5 month's, so i hope some will remember me hugs
