  1. Yeah, so when did the PRO arm suddenly become the Titan and why does everyone seem to know that? Jack had an open house at GPI a week ago, that's when a lot of guys found out. A few of us got to check out the Atlas while it was still in early development.
  2. Get your gimbal repaired before you worry about anything else. That should be your priority. Then once it's fixed, resume practicing your balance. After that you should have a better idea of the kinds of adjustments you may want to make. However, until you get your gimbal taken care of, you won't really be able to tell.
  3. I have a guess Eric, but I'll wait another month for the announcement.
  4. Probably be able to get 45 lbs. out of two black springs.
  5. Another great thing is that, for those of us newer operators who don't fly 50+lb. cameras, this will be a more affordable option than trying to buy a full sized PRO arm. Waiting with anticipation to hear the price point so I can start saving (once I start getting better gigs :P)
  6. Your operating will not be perfect the very first time. Just keep practicing. Over time, you will start to learn what you need to do to make your shots better, and what you need to stop doing that have been making them worse. For example, If you see a bounce in your shot, bend your knees and stop walking with a bounce in your stride. Learn everything you can about how your gear works, and keep practicing.
  7. So, what you're saying is, the Epic owner I worked with was a Panicky Pete. Typical.
  8. That's what made it so frustrating to me. I started off using my industry standard batteries, and the whole time I was operating the DIT was staring at the voltage levels on his REDMote. As soon as they started dipping he made me swap, even though I still had a good 50% left. Eventually I told him to just give me his bricks, which works fine since the whole setup is so light.
  9. I own a Red Scarlet and never heard of this. And I'm powering it from my Anton Bauers... I've heard the exact same thing from two Epic owners that I worked with. Apparently, if something goes wrong while you're using 3rd party batteries, it voids the warranty and you pay in full for the repairs. I don't know if there's a similar clause for the Scarlet, but judging by how both of the guys I worked with refused to let me use my own batteries I'd say it's worth a look.
  10. Here's another thing to take in mind: Epic owners probably won't let you use your own batteries to power it. The reason being that RED has a clause in their service contract that voids the warranty on the Epic if you use 3rd party batteries to power it. You're better off going with their bricks.
  11. This may be a silly question, but are there any film cameras that output an HD signal for monitor?
  12. I flew it on my PRO sled fully decked out and it was great.
  13. Loon actually stopped making motors for months in 2011 due to various issues. However, they kept taking orders for new ones. As a result, there is a MASSIVE backorder on M-One motors. Also, Don's business phone kicks straight to a full voicemail box and he stopped responding to emails. It took me 5 months to get my motor, and I'm convinced the only reason I got it when I did was because I was nagging him.
  14. considering the video was shot in Paris, it's probably a local op there.
  15. any estimate on the price point for when it becomes available for sale?
  16. Hi Sak! Welcome to the board! I have to get this out of the way first: B&H Photo really shouldn't get in the habit of selling two pieces of equipment that don't naturally work together as a package without a way for them to connect with each other. Are you sure that the kit didn't come with anything to make this work? As far as something that will allow you to adapt the HD4000 to the Varizoom arm, the first thing I would do is contact Varizoom Here. I'm pretty sure they'd be your best bet, since B&H didn't actually manufacture the gear you bought. If there isn't a company that makes parts like that specifically, then you're most likely going to need to find someone local to you who can make you a custom pin that will fit over the Varizoom arm post like a sleeve and is the correct size to fit into the Glidecam. Honestly, that's the only solution I can think of given the drastic size difference between the arm post and the GC yoke. If you know anyone who knows anyone who does machine work, it should be a pretty simple task for them. another option is to see if you can acquire a Glidecam arm instead., as the GC equipment is designed to work together.
  17. I ordered my M-One motor in mid-May, and I still haven't received it. The only thing I've gotten is an email in June saying that my order has been processed and approved, with an order number to use to keep track of my order's status. I have sent many emails to multiple Loon email addresses about the status of my order, and have not received a single response. I called the number on the website, and I got kicked to a voicemail box that is full, so I couldn't even leave a message. I've heard some of Don's story, and I sympathize with him a bit. However, I have a huge job starting on Saturday and I really, really need my motor. There's no way I can keep getting by with borrowing motors from others, especially when this next job is 13 days. Jim, I know you have better access to Don than the rest of us; is there any way you could get this to him?
  18. I need to write up a new deal memo, since it's probably time I make mine more professional. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of what to make sure is in there besides the basics (dates of employment, rates, gear protection). Things like rights to use footage in demo reels, notices of cancellation, etc. I just know that there are a lot of important things that I'm not going to think of, and 90% of the contracts I sign don't cover owner/operator related issues. Also, if anyone would be willing to send me examples, I would be grateful. DRSmollar@gmail.com
  19. As a Glidecam X-22 owner-operator, I can definitively say GO WITH THE ZEPHYR. The prices and the weight ranges are even (although the glidecam is cheaper on BH Photo), but the Zephyr is a better quality rig. I love my Glidecam, but if the Zephyr had come out 6 months earlier I would have bought it without a doubt.
  20. Thanks everyone! I started corresponding with Brant off the board. I honestly don't mind using my Glidecam for a little bit longer anyways.
  21. Should I go to Tiffen or are there other options here in Los Angeles? Maybe someone who could show me what to do for maintenance while they check it out. It definitely needs some work, and I'm very much not qualified.
  22. Well, that's it for the monitor arm! Still looking for a gimbal
  23. I've almost finished my sled, but I'm still missing a Monitor arm and a Gimbal for a 1.5" post. Preferrably a used Pro or 3a, but send me a message if you've got anything you're looking to sell. email : DRSmollar@gmail.com
