  2. Hey everyone,

I have a pretty new Archer 2 rig and every once in a while the monitor starts acting up. .

I attached a picture so you can see what it looks like. Has this happen to anyone else out there?

The only way I have been able to fix it is to turn the monitor off and back on and it is gone for awhile.

Should I send this back to tiffen?

    Best,

    Jake

One of my Marshall monitors was doing that, it was the processor. It needed to be replaced.

    JA

Yea I figured it wasn't good. Where did you send it for repair?

  3. I'm about to start a long job with the Archer2 as well that belongs to the client, Here's hoping its an isolated problem. The sled Ill be using has the same Marshall monitor.

    Ozzie

Good luck, you should be fine. The Archer 2 up to this point has been a pretty solid rig for me. Never been a huge fan of the monitor though. To make it worst my Dovetail Locking plate (today) is not locking a camera down that is well within its weight range.

Iv tried to tighten down the screw and adjust it but it is not helping. I have a pretty long shoot coming up in october so I gotta move fast.

  5. Hi Jake, all,

    To avoid confusion......

All Archer 2 systems come with the G-50.

    Archer 2 manual stage

Archer 2S stage motorised in fore and aft axis only

Archer 2SE stage motorised in both directions, leather vest, 2 batteries and a charger

Stage remote motors can be added later so at this stage you could use that money towards the HD monitor.

    Robin

    Hey Robin,

    Thanks for the clarity.

    Best,

    Jake

  6. Hi Jake

The Archer 2 will come with a 6" Transvideo Superbright now rather than the HD UltraBrite. Makes a nice match physically.

    Robin

    Hey Robin,

    Thanks for the update.

Is the 6" Transvideo Superbright monitor the one that comes with the cheaper archer package? If not, which one comes with the cheaper one and does it have a horizon meter?

    Best,

    Jake

  7. I operate with an Archer 2 and have it with the SD monitor. When I purchased a year ago I decided against HD because I needed that extra money for others things like batteries and cables. I use a downconverter with it and haven't had any problems. The wiring in the post is HD ready, so if you go the SD monitor route you can upgrade one day with no problems.

    Hey Aaron,

Thanks for your response. Do you know if the SD monitor comes with a horizon indicator? What downconverter have you been using? What cables should I be planning on buying? Most of my work will be with the F3 , FS100, Red, and Epic.

    Thanks for all your help.

  8. The motorized stage is very handy, but you don't need it.

I use mine to balance the sled, holding the remote in one hand, and a cup of coffee in the other :) And sometimes i use the memory buttons, while shooting, to trim the balance if i for example need to shoot downwards and back again to normal. But you could just change the drop time to neutral and the sled is just as easy to operate.

If the A2 comes with a G50 arm now, I would go for that.

Later you can upgrade the monitor and the batts are less expencive to buy another place.

    Hey Thomas,

Yea that sounds pretty awesome but I definitely need to cut costs where I can. I think out the gate I am going to have to go with the the Standard Def monitor. Working with beer money here.

Where is a good place to look for upgrading my monitor a little down the line.

  9. Hey Everyone. I have been operating a Pilot for sometime now and am in the market to pick up a bigger rig and get serious about operating.

I am pretty certain I am going to go with the Archer 2. I am looking at the pricing and see a big difference in pricing depending on what monitor I get.

There is about a $6000 difference between getting 7"STD def 700 monitor and an HD Ultrabrite 2 Monitor. They have a middle of the road HI-def monitor that falls right in the middle price wise.

That being said I was curious on your guys take on the monitors and what I should be taking into consideration in when purchasing. Any ops located in the MD DC Area?

    Thanks for your time!

    -Jake

Also if I ever wanted to upgrade the monitor later would it be difficult considering the wiring in the sled?

  10. http://www.steadicam...ison_chart.html

Looks like the main difference is the motorized stage option.

    The differences are

Archer 2 comes with the G-40 arm, and there are only few aks in the kit.

A2S and A2SE are almost identical.

    G-50 arm, Motorized stage (S= fore/aft) (SE= side-side and fore/aft)

    Lowmode kit

    Stand

    Archer 2SE also got:

    Leather LX vest

    Power Cubes IDX, and Charger

    Thomas :-)

Hey thanks for your responses. According to tiffen all the Archers now come with the G-50 Arm. I dont think I am going to get a motortized stage. The extra cost is pretty significant. Does anyone have any experience using the motorized stage and see why is could be really handy?

  11. Hey Everyone,

I am in the process of purchasing a New rig and have been looking at the archer.

I notice there is 3 different models; Archer 2, Archer 2 SE, & Archer 2s.

What are the major differences between all these models? The price varies greatly between them. Thanks for your time and is anyone Located in the DC / MD area?

  13. Hello All,

I am a new owner of a Steadicam Pilot. I have been trying to get dynamic balance with my canon 7D and I get close but still can't nail it. Static Balance is super easy but dynamic is another story.

Does anyone have any quick tips for achieving dynamic balance?

Should I spend more time on trying to achieve dynamic balance instead of flying the rig?

Any seasoned steadicam ops have experience Flying DSLR's?

    Thanks for all your input!

    Jake
