  1. I haven't had any AC's complain about critical focus issues with a Paralinx. You can always email Dan at Paralinx, and he will be glad to help you out. If you're in LA, he may even be able to demo a unit to you.
  2. I just want to give another shout-out to Dan and Greg at Paralinx. Their new trade-in program for the new hardware is great. Dan always helps me out right away, whenever I contact him. Also, I would say that you won't be sorry sticking with them over some other competitors like Teradek, They already have some exciting things coming up (which I will not discuss until they make any announcements), and the bottom line is, the investment will be a good one!
  3. This year, every Friday will be Friday the 13th!

  4. This is how I write: Write 20 pages, then outline the plot. Whatever works, I guess.

  5. Didn't we used to talk about the art and science of Steadicam on this site? It seems like the substantial topics die off quickly, and the vapid, political ones drag on forever; like some kind of horrible circle jerk. Quit feeding the fire, people!
  6. I'm rolling right along on page eight of my new feature. Writing is so much work!

  7. See that slider that says, "Clarity"? Don't touch it, and especially don't turn it down! What is this, Glamour Shots?

  8. I'm looking to shoot some head-shots for my portfolio. Let me know if you're interested.

  9. Hash tags are for Twitter. I'm tired of seeing that shit on my Facebook feed.

  10. Nuclear weapons don't kill people. People kill people.

  11. The middle east may have suicide bombers, but America has even worse...

  12. Thanks for all the input. I'm not in the Union yet, so I am not used to getting quite what some of you do, but I do fight for what I deserve. I regularly turn down refocus offers, but I also work with producers to negotiate a rate that works for both of us. I try to start at IATSE minimum wage for most gigs, given my four years experience, and I go from there.
  13. Why am I driving to San Diego right now?

  14. Thanks for the reply, Robert. What are some normal overtime scenarios? Do you usually charge after 10 or 12 hours. Do you go straight to double time?
  15. Do most of you charge a flat day rate (not including rentals) or an hourly rate with a minimum number of hours? I seem to get better results on low budget work when using an hourly rate to derive my day rate. This usually avoids any overtime debacles, or discussions over ten and twelve hour rates.
  16. I was worried when I took the dive off the cliff into doing freelance full time, but I am working five days this week on four different projects, and I'm feeling pretty good!

  17. Just pulled up to my apartment from working an all night shoot. I left my house at 2pm yesterday. Good times.

  18. Filmmaking 101: The script reads, "a cat fight ensues," there are no story boards, no choreography, and no AD....A clusterfuck will surely follow.

  19. Frederic, have you ever tried hooking two Paralinx receivers to one Paralinx transmitter?
  20. "Look at you, flying through the air, majestically, like an eagle... piloting a blimp."

  21. So I get my Bartech back from this feature that it was sub-rented on, and there is some damage. I contact the rental house that rented it from me (HD Pioneers), and there owner tells me that since he wasn't the one using it (the production was), that I need to contact them to be reimbursed. Does that make sense to anyone. Can someone who sub-rents their gear please chime in?

  22. Does anyone have (or know anyone who has) a Tango for rent in LA? I'm working on a dance series that I thought could benefit from it. I'd like to do some tests this month if possible. Thanks Alan@mediablackout.net
  23. I have the same thoughts as Brian. It was a little bit confusing until I read the manual. They've improved the display with the HC's, so now they have a recognizable battery icon with bars in it that represent the percentage. I do love that they will tell you how long they are going to last, up to four hours anyway (A big # 3 plus the four 15 min indicators). When you're at your lowest, they will at least indicate if they can wait to be changed until after the next shot. For the record, I don't plan on ever buying any non A/B batts.
  24. I've worked with enough Red cameras to know that what works for you one day won't necessarily work the next, and it even varies from camera to camera, no matter the firmware. I've just completely written the HDMI off on the Epic, and I always use a decimator for HDMI devices like the Paralinx because it just works. The Decimator has a loop through, so why not use it?
