  1. I'll end this Chick-Fil-A topic once and for all. It's not a free speech issue at all. No one is saying, "Hey, somebody make sure that CEO is silenced." What people are saying is, "Hey, Dan Cathy, you're an asshole," and he is, obviously.

  2. Just call it already! We have no locations, and nothing to shoot. I want to leave the desert.

  3. How the hell do people live out here! It's so hot, my air conditioner stopped working! Screw shooting in the desert!

  4. I was on a shoot today that was so far out in Malibu that it was practically in Oxnard. I mean that literally and figuratively.

  5. Looking for a Bartech (or comparable) for a shoot this Thursday. alanjrencher@gmail.com
  6. After Effects, you are the Bain Capital of my existence.

  7. Google Now is pretty fun. Is anyone else rocking Jelly Bean out there?

  8. What sled do you have? Do you need the battery mounted to the monitor, or could you use the battery plate that's already on the sled?
  9. I do plan on upgrading my rig in the next year, so this is an interesting concept to me. Having said that, the price seems prohibitive. Correct me if I'm understanding this wrong, but at $15/day over the course of two years, that's $10,950 for a lease. It would make more sense to outright buy an Atlas arm for $12,000 (give or take depending on springs), and dry-hire a bigger arm if I ever need to go over 50 lb.
  10. That's my situation exactly. It sucks when I do lightweight cameras. I would just rather weigh the top stage down than deal with taking the secondary battery hanger off.
  11. +1 for the affordable care act! Romney has said that if he gets elected, he'll try his hardest to repeal it. Let's not let that happen!

  12. Mine is a bitch to get on and off. The tolerances aren't right. Get yourself a can of silicone spray and go nuts.
  13. Gearing up to start a new web series with the writing skills of Danny Davis.

  14. If it was neutrally balanced, then the whole thing would be sideways. It has to be bottom heavy in order for the counterweight to sit below the camera. The more bottom heavy the rig is, the more of a pendulum effect the whole thing has. For larger rigs, we adjust the drop-time based on a veriety of reasons. For example, if it's windy, I'll make the rig more bottom heavy. Basically what I'm saying is that there is no one answer, and you have to make these decisions based on your experience.
  15. Steadicam systems (even consumer variants) aren't magical. They don't just keep the camera perfectly still all by themselves. They take a fair amount of skill to master them. They are just a tool. Practice and you will get better!
  16. The best tips for achieving dynamic balance are all in the Steadicam Operators Handbook. It just takes practice. When I first started on my Pilot while I was in college, I had a hell of a time getting both static and dynamic balance. Now I can get both in 10 minutes or less on my Zephyr with any camera. Just study the handbook and practice!
  17. GIVE IT A REST! No need for an aluminum dick measuring contest.
  18. I would be interested in seeing how that Bluetooth signal holds up. I can barely get any distance when playing music over Bluetooth.
  19. Does anyone know a good PM that would want to help on a music video?

  20. Hey Charles, are you still doing master classes? I think a lot of us could use one. Maybe we could learn to master the equipment we have.
  21. Would it be safe to assume that channels D, E, & F will be for a future zoom function?
  22. We finally got our Bartech back from SAS Rentals. He tried to extort $200 out of us to get it back, and that's after he basically stole it from us. A word of warning: DO NOT RENT FROM SAS!! The owner is a thief and a fraud!
