  1. What camera are you putting on the flyer? Is the total camera weight a big difference between what you do with your archer and what you do with the flyer? If you're keeping the drop times similar and the total mass is similar, (and your the same operator, so that variable is out), then it's possibly something to do with the rig/ gimble. It's possible that your gimble is not centred and out of alignment. This could throw the rig out of balance when you are in motion. Best bet right now is to check if it's centred: http://www.steadicam.com/images/content/U2_GimbalCentering.pdf
  2. What yoke are you using? Also are the extra monitor brackets available for purchase from tiffen?
  3. Seconded on the Fikenca bags. You can get exactly what you want made.
  4. As for panning quickly, it was probably a combination of you not being used to the weight and the small diameter of the post on the Glidecam. A post with a larger diameter would allow you to have a better grip (and less effort). With a heavier camera, it's going to have a big difference when you try to pan compared to a bare dslr which you could whip pan with the strength of a feather. That, and depending on how good the gimble is, I presume that could make quite the difference.
  5. One way to get over that is to hold the handle upside down, you can get the Glidecam much much lower.
  6. It comes out of the usb-looking port. And a cable like this: http://bit.ly/18EifgL
  7. The outer post is circular. I believe you should be able to use it on there, just collapse the post all the way.
  8. The pilot arm should hold about 18lbs in total,
  9. I'm looking for a used older Hytron 50. Still hoping for some life left, but it can be older and not at 100% health. Located in toronto.
  10. I'm a fan of the fact that you start off with a good pace. You showed a lot of different formats and shots in a short span of time.. keeping me interested off the get go, then you allowed the longer shots afterwards. Sometimes I find some reels boring, if its just long shot after long shot. Good editing. Good operating.
  11. Zephyr arm creeks like there's no tommorow for me as well. will try that after I try lisigav!
  12. At around 2:35, the camera op is running on a bit of a diagonal. You can see this wierd thing happen where it seems the camera response is a bit delayed, it seems to go off a tiny bit, then correct back to it original frame, then go off, then correct, then off , then correct. Granted it's new tech, but it looks like it still needs some kinks worked out. It seems to produce this wierd mechanical look to the movement. But some of the stuff looks great too!
  13. Had a weird moment with the Bolt last week on a shoot. The system was working fine for about an hour. Then we powered it up again after moving the monitor, but the Rx wouldn't send out a signal. One light would flicker on the unit, but no output signal via any of the two HDsdi outputs, not even a "Searching" text. Tried every power solution, monitor and cable possible. We ended up plugging the unit into a PC with a USB and that made something click, it started working again as good as ever! I have no clue what the issue was - it was a bit concerning, but aleast it started working again! Just thought I'd share, to see if this has happened to anyone before.
  14. I ended up using some brackets that came with the kit to screw to the mdr and mounted onto the rods.
  15. Heres a youtube clip: http://www.steadicamforum.com/index.php?showtopic=17338&p=83304
  16. That monitor wouldn't fair well at all in any sunlight/outdoor situation... furthermore there's no HD-SDI input in that monitor, so you'd still need a down converter and power that too.

  18. Even with the Archer, it's a jump depending on your budget. If you are at a ~10k budget, the zypher can do the job for the time being. I've heard conflicts about powering a Red thru the Zephyr. So every time I used it, I just powered off the camera batts. If you are using a Epic or Scarlet, then you'll have no problem for the most part in terms of Accessories and weight. With this Red setup, there was still a few pounds left of wiggle room in the arm. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us You will start to notice flex and vibrations in the upper weight limit though... Which came apparent pretty soon. So the Arm handles it, but does the sled? To a point. It's manageable, and a pretty good starting point.
  19. Ya, it can take a second battery, and it can do 12v or 24v. There is a price list on the zephyr page on tiffen.com but I am not sure if its listed. it might be the "Battery Mount (smll dovetail)" item listed.
  20. Looks like this will answer that: https://sugru.com/us...os/wtf-is-sugru
  21. did the sled balance out perfectly fine with the included weights, monitor etc? or did you add some weight below?
  22. I suppose this is a time a motorized stage could come in handy? I'm not sure how much the weight is being distributed... but just a thought. Would require some small co-ordination though. Either way, let's hope you don't need to shoot on the 135!
