  1. I'd love to hear Ron's version of the toe test.
  2. Is it a boy or a girl :D Anyway, Thank you Janice for taking this away from "whose gear is better" to "how to actually improve your shots" Some arms are better than others, but good operating and knowing how to deal with your equipment is what makes a shot good or bad.
  3. I started out on a Flyer LE but quickly moved to a Master series. While the Provid can't hold a lot of weight and the arm isn't very good, it's a good starter rig if you have access to it.
  4. Wait, are they renting just your rig or are you operating for them?
  5. There's more weather proofing on it so it's more weather resistant than the first gen. Happy?
  6. The fitting in one case is pretty impressive. How much does the case weigh fully loaded?
  7. How do you improve weather-proofing? It's either weather proof or it isn't. I was under the impression the first generation monitors could withstand all but submersion. If I recall correctly, the first gen needed to have the back ports covered to be weather proof. The new gen should withstand flan assault from all sides(including the new 160 proof flan from Jumbo's).
  8. I hear that rubbing lisagav on yourself while wearing a Pro vest and a WK vest backwards and drinking llama milk will clear those burns right up.
  9. I use a 6.5" V-LCD651STX on my rig. I got it because I didn't have a good monitor to put on and it was $650 on ebay. I love it. I've never had any visibility issues with it. I haven't used the 7", but the 6.5 is a great monitor if you get is for a good price. The only issue I've had with it is the frame lines are a pain in the ass to adjust. You have to go through several menus and the controls are pretty slow to respond. I usually just rip a piece of spike tape in half, stick it on, and call it a day.
  10. Hmm. AbelCine(I forget who I talked to...) left that part out.
  11. Actually, the Alexa model being different is purely mechanical. The only difference is the location of the mounting points. If you use the normal one on an Alexa, any stuff you put on there will block the ports on the left side of the camera. I had actually called AbelCine about this because I wanted to know where the extra $70 was going. I can't help you with the Epic issue other than agree that the Epic isn't a great camera. I've had it drop frames when it was near a loud sound. No audio was going into the camera, it was just in the same room as the screaming.
  12. Steadicam operators? Silly? What the llama are you talking about?
  13. I just returned a Bartech that I rented for my last job. I see why it's the industry standard.
  14. Watching Chris effortlessly stick the rig out at 5:50 is pretty impressive.
  15. Okay, I get it, buy a Bartech... What motors are out there? I know of the M-one, but not any others.
  16. I can get $2500 about twice as fast as I can get $5000. Every shoot I have to rent a Bartech I don't make as much as I could if I owned a WFF. Slightly off topic, but is the Hocus Focus system any good? It's at about the same price point.
  17. A couple years back, Redrock micro announced that they were developing a wireless follow focus system that could interface with the iPhone. At NAB 2012, they've added a more traditional handset to the line and announced a price. $2500 is a lot more manageable than $5000 for a basic BFD setup (Sorry Jim) and from what I've heard, the motors are pretty good. Has anyone checked them out at the booth?
