  2. Hi, I'd like to hear people's thoughts and experiences working with a Master (Broadcast) sled, and if you guys think it's 'still got it' compared to modern sleds? I'm still looking at upgrade options and have been considering a used Archer2 with G50x arm, but a Master with upgraded G70 is available for a similar price (both with LX vests). The sled has been upgraded with HD-SDI already so should be ready to fly modern cameras. I'm just a little concerned about the apparent lack of flexibility of the monitor and battery mounts and the short post? The G70 arm would allow me to upgrade to a modern 'big rig' sled in the future but just concerned that the old sled design may have some compromises compared to a modern one while I'm working with it? I've not yet had a look and test of either of them but doing some background research at the moment ;) Cheers guys will get there in the end! rups
  3. Does anyone happen to know the measurements for the Tiffen Steadicam Merlin Arm post? What size would it fit?

There will be the whole range of other Tiffen products together and importantly a running buffet with drinks. We'd love to see you but we need a guest list for security so please RSVP at http://www.flysteadicam.com/tiffen-open-day/ . 7. hey yall i am about to fly out for a gig and use a few bits of another operator's gear. i have a pro atlas arm and will be using a low mode J bracket by Tiffen that is typically used on the other op's Ultra 2. as i understand the diameter for the atlas arm is about .625". does anyone know the diameter of the current tiffen posts for low mode brackets? on their website it says .625" but i know that they have a few different sizes, so i want to be sure i am looking out for the correct size. I am scrambling to get my gear and myself outta the house since this gig just popped up an hour ago and i have to be at the airport in an hour so i havent done any math on the post diameters, etc. thanks yall brett,
  8. Hey Everyone, I'm looking to Sell or Trade my Tiffen Ultra 2 vest. It's seen a good bit of use. It works Perfectly but cosmetically is a little rough. I do love this FM vest, but I'm selling it because I recently purchased a Walter Klassen Flex vest, and it suits my needs better. One issue would be a small piece of the velcro on the left shoulder strap under the shoulder latch that holds the padding on has become frayed over time, it doesn't effect the function of the padding at all however as it's only a small portion of the velcro, and would be a super easy fix. I never bothered as it didn't effect the padding and wasn't enough to cause it to move. I've never had any issues with the socket block, works perfectly. The vest is super comfortable, and can be modified to fit many body sizes. I'm looking to either sell the vest or would like to trade for, or put towards the sale of an HD monitor suitable for steadicam. Maybe you have a backup monitor you're looking to get rid of, or are making the jump to a newer model and are looking to part with an older model. Let me know if this interests you. I'm also willing to work into the deal a TIffen Black Hard Shell case w/ wheels that I used for the vest and arm. The case is in excellent shape and has a dense foam liner inside, with 4 solid case fasteners and lock holes on the outside. Excellent for travel. The exterior moulded shell says Steadicam as part of the casings mold. I also have an extra strap buckle and receiver for the vest that I'll throw in. Currently the vest is in my gear lockup, I'll be there on Tuesday and can take some photos if there's interest. PM if interested!! Thanks for looking. - Ian
  9. Hello everyone. Looking to sell my Steadicam Zephyr. I've had it for just about a year now and it has served me very well. I finished upgrading my gear about two months ago so I'm ready to say goodbye to this one... 12v/HD Sled Zephyr Arm (w/ bag) Compact Zephyr Vest HD Monitor (w/ plexiglass shield) Docking bracket Batteries (2x Gold Mount Switronix) Dual Charger Sled Power Cables BNC Cable F-Bracket (for low-mode) Low-Mode Bracket Merlin weights (for additional weight when working with lighter cameras) Original DVD and Manual Zephyr Sled to XLR 4-pin cable Carrying case for the whole deal (and it has wheels for your back!) Everything is in damn good condition. Very few and very minor scratches, purely cosmetic. Had the gimbal serviced about 9 months ago by Tiffen; works perfectly. The Switronix batteries surprised me with how long they last. I'm looking to get $7,500.00 (+shipping) OBO. I'm located in Winston-Salem, NC and am willing to work out a hand-off for East-Coast residence if you want to save a little cash on shipping. Please feel free to PM me or email me (aaron.gantt@gmail.com) if you have any further questions.
  10. The original Merlin cookbook website is down but I'm not sure if it will help anyway. I can't get my t3i with Canon 18-55mm kit lens to balance. I've read the manual, watched numerous how to's, and i'm still having trouble. Does anyone have the specs for this combo (seems pretty standard)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
  11. Looking for a used G50 Arm or something similar. thx
  12. Selling my Tiffen Ultra Steadicam with lots of bits and pieces. This rig has served me very well since 2001 and according to Dan Ikeda at Tiffen, it is probably the most updated of the generation 1 Ultras. The battery system has been upgraded to the idx v-mount style and everything works well. Full disclosure, this rig was dropped while in low mode last summer and some damage was sustained. The camera and lens took the majority of the impact but the nose of the top stage was bent slightly downwards. the base of the rig hit the ends of the carbon rods and they seem fine. As it was part of an insurance claim, I had the rig sent to Tiffen for a full disassembly and inspection. They looked over everything, saw only what I saw (the bent nose) and sent it back to me. I powered it up, everything works fine except for the side to side motors in the top stage. They are stuck but I think I can fix it. I have the original Green screen monitor for it as well but haven't used it in years since getting my Transvideo monitor. The CRT was banged up a few years ago, the screen has a crack in it and the magnets on the tube need realigning a circle on the monitor appears slightly ovoid. I have always taken very good care of this rig and I think its cosmetic and mechanical state speak to that, but it was used. A lot. I am happy to discuss at length any questions about the rig, I know there might be trepidation about this but having spent a long time with it since getting it back fro Tiffen, I think it could serve someone very well. If you are in the market for a very affordable rig that can support and power the biggest cinema cameras and lenses, this could be it. For piece of mind, I could ship the rig to Tiffen for another inspection if the buyer was interested. Elsewhere on this forum I am selling an excellent, very clean Tiffen Ultra Arm with 4 posts and a new socket. Could be a match made in heaven (or Burbank) Included with the sled are: lots of spare parts, CRT monitor with 2 cables yoke for Transvideo 6" monitor yoke for any monitor with a 1/4-20 screw mount. 3 camera plates, 2 long, 1 short Antler dovetail mount ( I used this for mounting a Codex Raw Recorder to the bottom of the sled) IDx and Tiffen 24volt battery mounts. 6 Tiffen 24volt batteries (recelled by Emory Soos at Lentequip) with 2 PAG chargers in a hard case. All offers considered. Happy to ship internationally at buyers cost. Gerard Sava gfsava@gmail.com

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. -Andrew 310-993-0039 aansnick@gmail.com
  14. I was contacted by a fellow steadicam operator who was interested in buying my 24volt Tiffen batteries from my Ultra for his Master series broadcast rig. Has anybody any experience with upgrading a 12volt rig to 24volts? I don't know much about the Master series and would love to forward any advice about this to him. All input is appreciated. Thanks, Gerard Sava
  15. Selling 6 Tiffen Ultra Steadicam 24volt batteries with 2 PAG chargers and cables. 6 batteries, all re-celled by Emery Soos at Lentequip in Toronto. The LED meters were removed and saved to make room for more cells. I can include the meters with the sale. The batteries all took a full charge and read between 29.3v and 29.9volts with a voltmeter. The Chargers: 1: PAG AR-301 12-30volt charger for one battery at a time. Standard equipment with new Ultras. info: http://www.bhphotovi...ger_Single.html 2: PAG AR-304 12-30volt charger for 4 batteries in sequence. info: http://www.bhphotovi...ry_Charger.html 4 charging paddles ( xlr to Steadicam adapter plates) 2 AC power cords. Mastercase hard case can hold all of the above with room to spare. The center latch is broken. I never used it anyway, two seems fine. Make an offer: gfsava@gmail.com
  16. Full Steadicam Rig made by Tiffen Steadicam. This takes cameras that weight anything from approx. 5-20 lbs.... so that covers everything right through from any RED, Alexa, Sony F5, Phantom Flex.... even a Canon 5D with some additional weights added.... this has flown them all! I'm leaving the UK in May to head off and travel for a year or two so regrettably I'm having to sell this to help fund my travels. It comes with the official arm, sled, vest, flat monitor, low mode bracket, 2 x batteries and charger, additional weight plates for use with lighter cameras eg. the Canon 5D. It all packs into the flight-case which has wheels and a handle to pull it along with. I've not had it out of the box for a while due to a career change but will give it all a good clean up ready to package, it's got wear and tear that you'd expect for a piece of kit that has been well used but it's a robust strong bit of kit, a little piece of the plastic casing has cracked on the arm but this is purely cosmetic this is just a dust case, there's a little knock on the back of the monitor too but as I mentioned this is just wear and tear. Overall it's in lovely condition please come and see it and make me a sensible offer. The model is ProVid2.... was £20k new.... happy to let it go for sensible offers in the region of £5,000. This item is advertised across multiple sites so I reserve the right to end the auction early should it sell elsewhere. I'm based in Leeds, England. Please call me on +44(0)7843952755 for more information. Will post worldwide. Please note the Red Rock Micro rig with rails and Follow Focus, Canon 5D and lens seen in the pictures are not part of this sale!
  17. Well, the title explains it all. A while ago i contacted XCS in order to ask about the compatibility of their ERGO handle with my Ultra2’s gimbal. Unfortunately the handle is incompatible with Tiffen gimbal design. I could very well buy the whole gimbal from XCS’ and have the ERGO handle on my Ultra2 as the XCS gimbal is compatible with 1.58 Tiffen post but replacing a perfectly good gimbal seemed excessive to me and I decided to drop the idea. Now, cruising in older forum posts (http://www.steadicam...13&hl=ergo&st=0), my desire to have an ergo handle on my rig flamed again. I just want to express that I’m a potential buyer if XCS (or someone else depending of intellectual property rights) would have made a Tiffen-compatible version of ERGO handle. And even better, if such product could have a stage remote cradle on it. I know some people will have something to say about the Tiffen incompatibility issues with other brands but this will be out of the subject. I’m aware that Tiffen’s product is more or less incompatible with other brands parts, but I bought my rig being fully aware of the trade-off. Meaning that I personally preferred what Tiffen has on their rigs better than the other options elsewhere. Now I want to have my cake and eat it too by putting an XCS ERGO handle on my Ultra2’s gimbal along with stage remote (and even compatible with G-series arm-post diameter) and don’t have to buy a whole new gimbal. Any thoughts on this subject?
  18. I am selling my Ultra/Masters Arm that came with my Ultra Package when I bought it from Tiffen in 2004. I have recently had major work done to it - All by Robert Luna. It has had a complete over haul: All New Bearings, New Cables, 2 new Elbow Brackets (Luna design - much sturdier than originals) and new set of Eye bolts (all this work done in the last 2-3 months) and a New Luna Titanium Socket block adapter (new 2 years ago) its not the tools free version, but it wont break like my tools free did either. Cosmetically I'd say she's maybe a 8.5 or 9. Includes: - three arm Posts - a 6", 10", 15", a tool operated post ring, a tool-less post ring - Rain Cover set - Arm Bag Asking $9500 Tom Schnaidt TJS10@mac.com 917-208-5644 Arm is currently in Los Angeles. Pictures will post over the weekend...
