Premium Members James Layton Posted March 28, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 28, 2015 has anyone seen or heard of a good mount for the 6x6 gyros to a Pro rig? I have v-mount batteries and Pro have stopped making the post mount and clamp system. Everyone else seems to cater for the KS6's but not the 6x6. If not, anyone know a good fabricator / engineer in London?

Premium Members James Layton Posted March 28, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 28, 2015 I used to go to Brian but I don't have contact details for him since he shut up shop at Bees. Do you know where he is now?
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted March 28, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 28, 2015 That is some serious weight to have all in one place...talk to Kevin Andrews, I believe he uses this setup as well
Premium Members James Layton Posted March 28, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 28, 2015 I had a chat with Larry McConkey about it as he's gone down this road and says it's much better than two KS6's. He's replaced his battery plate under the post. It's a quick switch but he's on Anton Bauers. He says the weight is less than two 6's and its quieter, better balanced and more effective. It is a weight but it just means a shorter post so I'm ok with that for most day to day use. I'll se what Kevin has done. Thanks.
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted March 28, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 28, 2015 I think when Larry uses this (Kevin as well?) he removes the batteries and powers the sled via a cable to an external battery. I think it's approaching 7 lbs (if not over) with mounting bracketry/cables. Seems like an interesting idea. I would make sure they are mounted to a plate and not the plastic ab mount. Love to see what others have done!

Premium Members James Layton Posted March 28, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted March 28, 2015 Thanks Rick. Ron, yes that's right. I think I'll try the same but d-tap off the rear batteries instead of an external unit. Looking at an alloy brace to hold the gyros firm in place of the battery but I agree that a metal plate is important instead.

Premium Members Thomas English Posted April 1, 2015 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 1, 2015 Why don't you get a blank battery plate for the bottom of your PRO and hard bolt the gyros into that? Interesting to see how you finally go about it. I've got a gyro job tonight.
Premium Members James Layton Posted April 1, 2015 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 1, 2015 That's pretty much what I'm doing, Tom. V-lock (male) plate to an aluminium plate to the gyros, then two support brackets coming up either side of the battery to meet the accessories plate above the batteries and maybe one other support elsewhere. Otherwise the torque and weight would be too much for the plastic v-lock plate.
