Premium Members Bo Baraniak Posted September 23, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 23, 2006 Hi Brett, I'm sure Frank at Tiffen would be able to help you but I can also confirm that CP were able to make an EFP in Oct 1998 with the remaining parts they had in stock. Premium Members Brad Grimmett Posted September 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 24, 2006 I have to collect all and everything for the last 9 years because of the tax office. Cheers, Jens I'm sure you love your country...but what the hell?! 9 years? Are they serious? Ask them for their tax records for nine years...they'll probably laugh. Why can't we all just act like human beings.......nine years.....give me a break! Good luck buddy.
Premium Members JensSchroeder Posted September 24, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted September 24, 2006 Brad, Thanks for your nice comment :) . That helps. Actually it was kind of my mistake too but now they try to destruct me. Anyway, up to now all real bad things had a good thing in it too. My first step to steadicam actually developed from such a thing and now I'm happy it happened. Maybe I should open a company in the US. I really will keep your comment in mind 'gimme a break' when I have the personal talk with them and they will be probably surprised by my big smile without a reason. Take care and cheers from Germany, Jens
Premium Members Imran Naqvi Posted October 30, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 30, 2006 Hi all, Just thought I'd post a few pics of my EFP DB Base Mod. This idea was as first just to get 12/24V available, which then led to the conclusion that if I do that I may as well go for DB at the same time. It still needs to be anodized but I'm quite happy with it, the only problem now is I may have to build something to allow me to move my monitor as well (iMP Blackbird). Comments, jokes and put downs welcome! Click ME
Premium Members Afton Grant Posted October 30, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 30, 2006 The design of it looks rather neat and simple. Not bad at all. My suggestion would be to dress the wiring a little better - insulation, strain relief, etc. Especially add protection to the Lemo jacks on the bottom. Otherwise, they are likely to be damaged/disconnected over time. A loose wire down there with all that metal so close by could have some spectacular consequences. Best of luck! Premium Members charlesneufeld Posted October 30, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 30, 2006 Looks good! Additionally, I would get rid of those blue butt-connectors. While they are MIL spec IF crimped properly, I'd go for good 'ol solder and shrink. ~C
Premium Members JobScholtze Posted October 30, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 30, 2006 Looks a little like the Nexus Base. Nice mod. It will look great when its black.
Premium Members Imran Naqvi Posted October 30, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted October 30, 2006 Thanks, guys, the wiring isn't all done, I'm going to replace it with some nice spiral type stuff when I take it apart to be anodized, as well as generally tidy up the bottom to protect it a little from the elements. Don't say it looks like the Nexus! I'll get into trouble! I went through a couple of designs before I got to this one, and I actually think it still looks a little like the original EFP base with a plate on the bottom and bars through it. Now I have to spend time thinking about DB as well!
Premium Members Bo Baraniak Posted November 3, 2006 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 3, 2006 Looks good Imran, where did you go to get it this all machined?
Premium Members AdamKeith Posted March 4, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted March 4, 2007 I am having trouble running a AJA Downconverter off my EFP sled. The AJA powers up fine and there is no problem until I add a video line to the AJA off a camera and then the EFP Fuse pops. I have never had any power issues before, running my monitor/modules/Bartech or Camera off the sled. Also have no problem with video to the monitor or modules. I have tried 2 AJA and 2 Power Cables. Same results Any one have any thoughts? Regards Adam Keith
Moderators Janice Arthur Posted March 5, 2007 Moderators Report Share Posted March 5, 2007 Adam; The last time I used an AJA the AC reminded me that it doesn't power up (light go on) until you connect video. So, if this is true, it seems to me that you are drawing too much power or there is a short somewhere. My solution with these things (AJAs) has been to run them off the P-tap on the Anton-bauer adapter plate, then the camera has to deal with this power not my sled. Hope this helps as an option. Premium Members Bryan Fowler Posted May 13, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2007 Hi folks, I need to modify my monitor post, and battery mount to help me get dynamic balance. I've been looking at this for a while, and finally need to pull the trigger. I figured I'd make this post for other EFP modders out there. There are a few solutions I've looked at. I'd like opinions and advice from those of you who have gone through what I'm going to do. These are the ones I've seen. I'm looking for pros and cons for these solutions? MK-V solution Steadirig's dealie (just the battery) Then there is the XCS monitor arm I think Brant Fagan has a monitor arm as well. I haven't seen photos of it. (I'm a visual guy...go figure) I know there are a few options out there, as well as the DIY option like Imran did. I'm not opposed to DIY. A friend has a milling machine, but I have not spent much time with it, and would want plans before I just bought some aluminum and started hogging and drilling. =) Another thing. While I'm changing things, should I make a second (or third) battery mount for accessories and/or 24v. I also want to do things as cost effective as I can. That includes factoring in time spent, support, and ease of use. Thanks for the help everyone. "PS. Through searching the forum I've gathered some bits of info about this subject. I'm hoping this post will combine answers, and add some user opinions so others have an easier time finding things than I did.
bobgilles
I would consider the Mk-V lite lower stage, this is the direction I am going and it will future proof your rig
Moderators Alec Jarnagin SOC Posted May 13, 2007 Moderators Report Share Posted May 13, 2007 Bryan, You should be able to modify your EFP base for a lot less money than replacing the whole battery unit. There are a number of ways to go about it. I have to wonder if placing a large brick battery on long rails (one of the examples you showed) is begging for vibration???? Just be sure that any mods you do don't add vibration. I've always liked the XCS monitor bracket but Ron seems to feel it could add vibration. I usually leave my monitor hanging almost straight up & down and I'm using an XCS post as well so I've never encountered any problems with it. If you do switch out battery hangers, also look at Jerry Hills. Works great; has a VDA and you don't need to change battery styles. Alec Oh, thanks for the message. I will try and come by PA for the end of the workshop, but I'm working early that week so it would just be for Thurs, Fri - I need to call Jay. Premium Members Martin Stacey Posted May 13, 2007 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 13, 2007 Hi Bryan I have flown the actual rig shown on the MK-V website, (It belongs to Jason Williams if you want to talk to the owner) and it is as solid as a rock. It has made it an extremely versatile rig, easily balanced and very smooth to fly wether walking or running. There was no vibration that I noticed as the cage is original but the mounts and rods are all new. Hope this helps. Cheers, Martin Stacey
