Hi Forum,

I'm working on a music video here in Montreal shooting sat morning.

Flying a Sony EX1 on my Flyer.

At the last minute they have camera battery issues. :o

Any Montreal Ops that would loan/rent me an AB power tap to 12V DC plug so I can run the cam off my sled?

Or tell me where I might find one in a hurry?

Thanks really alot!

Robert

Hi Robert,

I have an AB PLATE with 12v xlr plug at the other end... I don't have the AB TAP.

If you need AB batteries, I can help.

There is entvideoservice.com and mtlvideo.com that could help you out I guess. Hopefully ,they won't ask too much for a cable....

Good luck.

Hi Frederic!

Thanks you so much!

I will check with those companies tomorrow!

What a great community of Steadi Ops!

Have you run anything off your power taps in the past? Only reason I say this is because I borrowed a Pilot from Tiffen and found out the hard way that the P-taps were not active on that rig (they are physically there but not wired in internally). Don't know if this is the case with the Flyer also, but it seems more than likely (anyone? Peter A.?)

Also, you would might want to specify what 12v DC plug you need at the end of the cable--many possibilities there...! 4-pin XLR is pro standard but unfortunately many prosumer items use those pesky push-on type connectors that come in a myriad of sizes, both ID and OD.

FWIW, along this line I just had Terry West make me a 3 pin LEMO to four slot female AB PTAP cable this week so that I can come out of the top stage of my sled nose and have power for Bartech, AJA downconverter and whatever else that is low current draw that has a AB PTAP connector. It's the "hail Mary" cable.

Wow!

Thanks for all the feedback.

Gotta say again what a great community!

I was really sweating this one: my first time with these people, so wanted to be good.

It turned out that the 1st AC that production gave me went on the cable mission to the local houses.

No cable but he did return with the right batteries for the EX1.

Asked him how he got them and he said "you don`t want to know".

So he was a hero and pulled some great focus while chasing me thru crowds of bopping models in smoke filled loft.

My new best friend!

Fourteen hours later we wrapped it. (shot entirely one camera on my steadicam :o )

I think we had some really gorgeous moves/images and I will post when I get some.

Charles, thanks for taking the time to post!

My taps are hot and yes its that little "hole" kind of DC plug.

Sorry not to be more clear.

Also I was referring to the tap that is on the AB plate.

Maybe "power tap" is the wrong word for that?

Robert thanks for the "Hail Mary" idea, too.

I`m definitely getting one as soon as the flames die down on my credit card!

Frederic: my friends saw an Op at the Circus show today.

Was it you?

They said he was sweating buckets, so probably not you since you guys are so cool. :P

Merci beaucoup!

Et salut,

Robert

Hi Robert, I am curious as to how your focus puller was managing to pull with the EX1?

I had on a promo last week, and we had no way of remotely pulling focus due the fact there is no gearing on the lens, only the zoom, and iris.

What was your solution?

My focus puller with nothing to do!

Hi Robert:

P-tap is the standard name for the 2-pin power connector found on Anton Bauer and other battery plates, yes. I thought they were standard on AB plates at this point, and was disappointed to discover that the plate on the Pilot didn't have it as I was counting on that to power my transmitter when I borrowed the rig. I also found out the hard way that the P-taps on the base of my sled were not wired in the one time I tried to power off them also.

Hi Richard,

There is a slip on lens gear for the EX1.

Slides right over the rubber focus ring on the Sony lens barrel.

We picked it up at the rental house.

Then we could run the Bartech.

Not sure who makes it but I will ask.

Works great and looks lots cheaper than the Zacuto gear.

Hope that gets it,

R
