Panavision had an S.O.C. - Genesis demo today.

The updated SSR-1 (16GB) will record 40 minutes of 4:4:4 and 80 minutes of 4:2:2. It is also compatible with the F23 and F35. According to Panavision the F35 is nearly identical with the Genesis (same chip & electronics), except for the ramping feature on the F35. A new viewfinder will be introduced shortly (SONY) at NAB.

jens- i'm going with charles on this! i don't think sony would agree with them being the same! effective, noise free asa on the f35 is up to 1000asa. i don't think the genesis gets that high. and, even if you unlock a genesis, the control you have with the f35 from the dit and the latitude you have in post with the new s-log is night and day to the genesis. don't get me wrong, i love the images from the genesis, but wait til you see what the f35 can do! and for the record, i just finished another genesis show and am currently on a series with the f35.

geoff

p.s. the eyepiece and eyepiece assembly on both, still sucks! getting better, but still sucks!

Hey Geoff,

I have played with the Idea all since I saw it last year at NAB... and the other day I ran into the guys from Silicon Imaging...

Anyhow... they are using a viewfinder build by P+S Technik in germany that is based on the Arri style viewfinder. They have an Electronic as well as an Optical version (so far only as B4 mount, but who knows):

And we started talking about the possibility to attach one of there viewfinder to a Genesis or Sony F23/35... they are confident that they can make it work... and then you would get all the comfort of an Arri Eyepiece...

More stuff to buy/carry... Oh well.

I am also doing a show on the F35

Very Genesis like but higher level internals.

Sony showed a few of us (maybe 10 in the room) the new SSR-1 deck back in early January when we did a HD Demo of all the HD cameras on the market. They told me that it was hush hush at the time and was not even suppose to be at the demo.

So I've been waiting for the official release of the new decks, as the SRW decks are tanks

And yes I agree, the eyepiece still stinks.

It would be great if one day engineers actually spoke to and consulted the professionals who USE the gear in practice when it comes to some design/accessory features. Would probably save them time and money of having to constantly redesign and upgrade. Oh well, I'm just happy they are upgrading. Now to make them the size and weight of the RED camera. The new RED camera will be interesting too.
