Premium Members Charles Papert Posted April 14, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2010 As announced at NAB, the Decimator is now replaced with the Decimator 2. New features include HDMI output (so HD-SDI in, cross-conversion to HDMI and downconversion to SD), and de-embedded audio. The box is very slightly wider. Yes, it still has the same power connector (had a long talk today with the brass about getting that changed out) and will cost an additional $50 more than the Decimator 1, i.e. $495 list. I will have the new Decimators in stock shortly.

Thanks, Emre www.productionpit.com
Premium Members Charles Papert Posted April 14, 2010 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted April 14, 2010 Hi Emre: I pretty much just sell them as a convenience for local guys (i.e. LA), I'm not set up for out-of-state sales or international. Check the Decimator web site (decimatordesigns.com) for local dealer information. It will be interesting to see what the interest level is in the new unit. For those who are looking to use low-cost HDMI monitors, having a cross-converter box is helpful let alone the fact that it also downconverts. However there are many who won't need that feature set, so anyone who is looking to upgrade will likely have no problem selling their old one. I will probably need to look into buying one of the used units as I wont need the HDMI connection. I will keep my eyes peeled in the classified section. Cheers, Emre
Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted April 15, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted April 15, 2010 The HDMI addition sounds good for people who are mounting these things on monitors but for us we really need it to go the other direction. If it was HD-SDI or HDMI in and HD-SDI and composite out that would be a very useful box. I mentioned this to the guy at the booth today and he said that they heard that a lot at NAB and made it sound like they are going to consider making some sort of hdmi->hd-sdi box in the very near future. Personally I have no use for the added HDMI functionality so prefer the smaller and lighter original decimator. ~Jess
