Premium Members Philip J. Martinez SOC Posted December 22, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) Here is an other winner from Mandy http://www.mandy.com....cfm?v=41615574 I really like the capital letters. "Steady Cam Operator w/gear (if you are new to the position and need material for your reel, please contact us. DO NOT contact us if you request a day rate)" I wish there was a way to enforce the state/federal minimum wage in America on these websites. Not that I think anyone should work as a steadicam operator for minimum wage. Happy Holidays!!! Edited December 22, 2010 by Philip J. Premium Members Bryan Fowler Posted December 22, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 22, 2010 I wonder if I can get some work on my house done like this. Maybe refinishing all of our floors, or new countertops for free. So they can get experience and something for their website.
Premium Members Robert Starling SOC Posted December 22, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 22, 2010 I'm reposting this bit off of one of my blogs from earlier this week: "If you are affected or feel affected by the no-pay low-pay work offers and/or those who accept them it's probably time to fish in a bigger pond and reevaluate your own marketing / networking mind-set in the business. CL or Mandy is no place to build your business or your resume. Trolling or dwelling on CL / Mandy or low-ballers is time and effort you should put into quality time planning and building your clientele using a more professional approach." Premium Members Sydney Seeber Posted December 22, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 22, 2010 Those guys are just making film shorts for fun. I do that as well from time to time. While I am all about getting paid, it's kinda hard for me to get upset at that sort of thing unless it's a for-profit enterprise. It doesn't seem to me they're looking for a professional anything and staying within their boundaries if you will. Had they said they wanted a decade worth of A list feature work under the belt and offered $150/day for rendered services there might be an issue here
Premium Members JobScholtze Posted December 22, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 22, 2010 Some time ago there was a guy with a great ad, i think it was on mandy. I wish i saved that ad, it was funny as hell but oh so true. Something like Looking for a steadicam op with gear. You must be able to fly the gear in on your own expenses, if you cant work that day, leave your gear with us at no cost, etc etc. I hope somebody remembers that one? I wish i saved that ad, it was funny as hell but oh so true. I think maybe you mean this little gem: http://www.wbd3.com/steadicamforum/dp-steadi_mandy1.pdf I replied to the job with the following cover letter: "Dear Boss, Funniest posting on Mandy ever! Kudos!" The guy who posted it turned out to be a cam op. Here's his reply to me: "Thank you for replying to my mandy.com ad and thanks for getting it. You would not believe how many craigslist replies I got from people who thought it was serious. I thought for sure mandy would reject it. Anyway, I am meeting a lot of cool people through the ad which I did just to blow off some steam. Unfortunately, you are not who we are looking for at this time, but we will keep your resume on file for future nightmares. haha"

Premium Members John atkinson Posted December 27, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 27, 2010 Since we are independent contractors they wayside any wage standards etc. They may post all they want, but no one should except a gig like that. I do a charity gig a year for dear friends, but that's about it. There is no benefit in getting stuff for your reel that is not noteworthy. Premium Members Jess Haas SOC Posted December 28, 2010 Premium Members Report Share Posted December 28, 2010 Date: 1250186756 PostID: 1321389193 Title: (crew gigs) Need Crew to build me a house Need plumber, electrician, carpenter, the works. Prefer people who have left over materials from other jobs who can provide them at no cost. Must have own tools. I can't afford to pay you but I will provide all the free pizza you can eat(2 piece maximum) and all the non bottled water you can drink! (the neighbors have a hose). This is a great opportunity for you to gain credit building a real house that you can put on your resume. I am sure that it will get you lots of future jobs and be totally worth it. Must have own tools and be fully licensed and bonded. I plan on turning right around and selling this house and while I won't put it in the contract (or even have a contract) when I make boatloads of money from this venture I promise to give you a piece of it. Premium Members Stephen Wymer Posted August 10, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted August 10, 2011 Okay, this one isn't requesting a Steadicam op, but I have to share it. Apparently there is a new job in town, and I'll doubt you'll find Grib opportunities anywhere other than my beloved hometown. Oh, Oklahoma. http://oklahomacity.craigslist.org/tfr/2506344287.html
