Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted May 1, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 1, 2011 I keep it in my nose until low mode is called for...but that's just me. I guess you could look at the pics here of other people's rigs to see but most just put it at the bottom of the post above the kip/clamp to extend the post. Ron is always upside down... That would be just below your clamp on the Tiffen rigs... not sure about the other style rigs.

That is ONLY correct on a Tiffen rig, the XCS and the PRO both do it correctly where the clamp goes above the lower kip on the main post
Moderators Janice Arthur Posted May 2, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted May 2, 2011 Guys; Really are we that bored that we have to help with where to suggest putting a 2nd docking ring? (Robert, not mad at you, sorry if it sounds that way.) JA
robert weldoff
hi all thanks for replies @Janice: i mean no disrespect and i know u have been in business a lot longer than i have. maybe i should have been clearer i have an efp as a backup sled and i want to have a ring made up by a friend (skilled Machinist) and was wondering where the best place to put it as the sled diameter changes along the telescoping post. thanks all again
Premium Members RonBaldwin Posted May 2, 2011 Premium Members Report Share Posted May 2, 2011 I don't think I would want all the weight hanging on the clamp/kip. And it may not be worth having machined if you can get one for less than a hundy. Janice is right...no one does searches anymore (or flips open any industry magg or looks for pics on fb) and we are bored from the endless questions on "how do i balance a dslr" and "3d vs hernia". robert weldoff
@Ron i have looked at many pics, i was just wondering... and the machining is free (basically family) including materials as there are a lot of offcuts in the workshop
Moderators Janice Arthur Posted May 2, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted May 2, 2011 Robert; Like I said it wasn't you. You asked a fine question but boy to get 100 years of combined Steadicam experience answering that question seemed dumb, and in under an hour. You could have figured it out but it would have taken you x amount longer and clearly would have had to think about it a lot and maybe the money on a machinist would be badly spent but the process is important too. Baldwin has it right I was addressing the larger issue of spoonfeeding some of this stuff too much. I have coined the phrase "helicopter-ops". Just like the parents that don't let the kids fall down or fail, we want to help so much we, the veterans, do it with Steadicam now that we have this great thing called the forum. Experiment. . . fail too. (Maybe in the long run it will make it a little bit harder and those who stick with it will be fewer in numbers and better for the experience(s).) robert weldoff
HI @Janice i cant explain how much i have learnt from this forum and how much i appreciate it. the very fact like u say, ask a queation and so many people with so much more experience and knowledge than myself answer my stupid questions. talking about failing and experimenting, I have made brackets for self, carts, "snow shoes" windbreaks and a lot of other things. Incl stripping down a 3A arm and servicing it my self (just from reading searching this forum) I have repaired my backup/original sled ( i now fly Ultimate 1) vest and gimbal. i have done this from reading through countless posts and have spent literally days reading up info. i am fortunate to have access to a machine shop and skilled machinists at no cost but my own time somethings have failed and somethings were succesful. but im no way of of your "helicopter_ops" kindest regards
Moderators Janice Arthur Posted May 2, 2011 Moderators Report Share Posted May 2, 2011 Robert; Again it wasn't you. We the veterans are the helicopter-ops, we, sometimes help too much was my opinion. JA T
