Modifications of the provid sled

Hi members ! i need input on how to modify a provid sled... one of the members did a mod on his provid and i saw it... kinda genius on how he did the wiring to hdsdi... could any member advise me on how to rewire from video to hdsdi ? ;) .the other thing is our crt went kaput long ago so the agent in my country replaced it with a lcd monitor i had a torrid time balancing the whole sled due to the weight of the lcd. and the funny part it has a 5 pin connection to it. i wish to strip it apart and redo the wiring for it and fix a new monitor bracket... saw a unit from movcam and looks ok any recommendation? and by doing this does this affect the CG of the sled? thanks guru's your inputs will be useful... :)

Mohamad;

I think you should consider all the possibilities of rewiring etc but also consider that completely rewiring this type of rig for HD may not be worth it.

For the useful time you will be using this rig before you "outgrow" it it may be better to just run a cable on the outside from the camera to your monitor.

You've already had mad issues with a 2nd generation monitor. You can see where the bad parts are of this sled and its "dead-end" life.

I would encourage you to investigate it all and put a $ figure on the changes and the time and really evaluate whether its worth it.

You are seeing my it is now so popular to go with Modular Steadicam designs that allow for changing components easily. This type of idea was not common when that rig was made.

It is still useable but probably not worth upgrading.

Just my idea.

Good luck.

While I agree with Janice rewiring for hd-sdi doesnt have to require a huge investment. For my sled(not a provid) instead of replacing the whole coiled cable i added a thin hdsdi compatible bnc inside the post and taped it to the coil. I soldered it to the existing top and bottom stage BNCs and used bnc connectors on the cable (male on one end, female on the other) to allow disasembly of the sled.

As far as the monitor goes you probably want to add a battery plate to it or somewhere else on the front bottom of the post in order to bring the weight closer to that of the CRT.
