Steadicam Zephyr HD + Scarlet = No Monitor Signal?

Daniel Wang

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I just recently bought a Steadicam Zephyr HD and am currently trying to set it up with my RED Scarlet. I'm trying several different configurations with an HD BNC cable and have not been able to get signal to the Steadicam monitor.

Any suggestions? Any local operators that have experience with this?

Thanks!

Dan

Daniel,

Welcome to the forums.

Have you tried connecting the camera directly to the monitor?

If so and the monitor gets signal, make sure that you have the right connection from the sled to the monitor. If I remember correctly, there is an SD and HD connection on the sled, you could just have the wrong one connected to the camera and the opposite one connected to the monitor.

If you find that your sled wiring is the challenge, the good news is that Tiffen is just around the corner from you.

Hi John, thanks for the welcome and reply. The monitor itself doesn't seem like there is an SDI input connection. There is a HD SDI connector at the bottom of the sled as well as the top. I've tried connecting the camera to the bottom connector as well as top HD SDI connector. No luck with either.

Can you take a photo of the back and front of the motor?

It should be a rebranded V-LCD70XHB-3GSDI Marshall monitor http://www.marshallmonitors.com/products/monitors/V-LCD70XHB-3GSDI/index.html

If not, then you have a SD monitor, and will need a downconverter. If you can't connect your camera directly to the monitor, the you already have a problem.

The connectors on the sled are connected to each other with a cable in the post. You need to connect the camera on the top stage, and the monitor on the bottom stage.

Also, there are tow connectors on the top, one of them is SD the other is HD (also HD feed has been working on both for me). On the bottom, you have the hirose connector where you plug the monitor cable with power and SD-SDI breakout, the other is a HD-SDI connector.

On the flight case, there were several labels on the side when I purchased it. According to Filmtools, they accepted the shipment as an HD model w/ standard vest + v-mount, but the sticker labels on the side had SD monitor on it. Seemed to be a logistic issue within Filmtools, but they sorted it all out very quickly.

Enjoy you HD monitor! You may be interrested in getting the Digital horizon for the monitor as well, quite useful. http://www.bhphotovi..._Indicator.html
