Steadicam Pilot Users

Hi all,

I have one of the original Steadicam Pilot systems that came with the 5.8" Tiffen monitor, the monitor has just recently developed a fault with the connector block, sent it off to Tiffen UK for repairing but they sugested in having the monitor replaced with another they had in stock.

I thought rather than me throw out £300 for a standard SD Tiffen monitor I should look at getting myself a good HD / SD monitor.. I won't then have to limit its use on only my steadicam,

Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated? I had a look over at the SmallHD site, how do people rate these monitors? anyone using them on the pilot?

Also has anyone actually ever attempted modifying or upgrading the wiring on their pilot system to allow for HD?

Thanks,

We put a JVC DT-X71H on our Pilot in replacement of the SD monitor that it came with.

It flies on the Pilot quite nicely. We are currently running it with the SD wiring. Everything looks quite nice. There are three monitors in this 7" line. The model we chose is the middle one. They can be found at B&H for a good price.

We are using a battery on the monitor while we are awaiting an adapter for the DC connector to 4 pin so that we can power it from the sled battery.

I am sure there are many opinions on using "SD wiring" for HD video. Yes it does require an updated cable, however, for the camera and work that our Pilot is doing it is working out just fine.

Thanks for the feedback guys, can anyone tell how many NITs the orignal pilot monitor had? as mine is still laying in a Tiffen workshop I can't check it out, It would be handy to know this when comparing other monitors.. I don't think i'd have to look too hard to find something better though.

That new High-Bright monitor from small HD looks slick, pricing is a bit high but I do believe that a decent monitor is worth the investment.. Not yet available though.
