Premium Members Kyle Wullschleger Posted November 15, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2013 What's the power option you have Alan? This version just routes from the 2pin power out of the Bartech. Do you have an additional cable port on yours? Yours is smaller, this one measures approximately 2"x1.25"x0.5" - It does have a bnc option, I assummed it's there to send timecode though the sync cable, but I've never tested that and don't have any time code generating devices to give it a try. Maybe Chris can chime in, it wasn't sepcified when I ordered? Perhaps it's just an option to hook up Run/Stop through the Red breakout cable. Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted November 15, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2013 I have an egg.0b.302 jack built into the enclosure that is made to accept your existing Bartech power cable, it then has an fgg.0b.302 plug that passes power through to the Bartech receiver. This helps with the digital version that does not have power pass-through.
Premium Members Kyle Wullschleger Posted November 15, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 15, 2013 Ahh, that makes sense. It's a shame that the digital version doesn't have a power pass through but that is a great design on your part!
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted November 26, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 26, 2013 I have an update on this: I'm currently having custom circuit boards made for this cable. It shouldn't be too long now before I can have some available for the people who requested them. I have a quick poll for anyone interested in this cable: Would you rather have the 00 Lemo terminated end attached to the box like in the picture, or a BNC jack on the box with an optional BNC to 00 Lemo cable? Thanks!
Premium Members Steve Acheson Posted November 26, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 26, 2013 I will take one!!
Premium Members Daniel Stilling DFF Posted November 26, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 26, 2013 I would prefer the way you have it in the picture. The less lose parts and extra connections, the better...
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted November 26, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 26, 2013 Yeah that's my thought, too. I might make two options: one with the original layout, and one with a BNC jack for those who have bought semi permanent breakout boxes. Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted November 26, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 26, 2013 Yea I did like it all-in-one when I played with your prototype Alan. I was worried at first that it wouldn't reach from the Bartch hanger on the front of my DB3 nose box, but it reached to the back of the Epic with some slack to spare. The package I tested it on was a fairly short setup though. The Epic packages I shoot with often have a Cabrio zoom or an even heavier lens like a Master Prime, so the camera would have to be rigged back further. Also the mattebox was empty here. My only suggestion would be a bit more length on that 00 Lemo cable. It's an otherwise great little piece of engineering in a simple, small package! Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted November 26, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 26, 2013 Thanks for the photos, Mike. What length would you prefer the 00 Lemo cable to be?
Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted November 26, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 26, 2013 What length is it now? Another foot might be excessive, 6" could be right on the money with room for comfort.
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted November 26, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 26, 2013 It's 12" right now. I'll plan on 18" for the final product.
Premium Members Daniel Stilling DFF Posted November 27, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 27, 2013 I think 18" would be perfect.
Premium Members Alan Rencher Posted November 27, 2013 Author Premium Members Report Share Posted November 27, 2013 Okay, so I'm getting closer to having these available. I've actually partnered up with PLC Electronics! They'll be supplying me with the same great boards that they use in their Epic run cable, and in return, I'll be assembling my design for them to sell in place of their current design. It's a win-win for everybody! I have also decided to make two options: the original design, "All-in-One," and a version with a BNC jack for use with semi-permanent breakout boxes. For those interested in purchasing, I have an order form online. The lead-time as of now is two weeks (waiting on parts to be delivered). Premium Members Mike Germond SOC Posted November 27, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted November 27, 2013 Excellent! And smart move by PLC. Your design is far superior to their old one. Glad I could be part of the testing as well!
