Dave Gish
My first rig was a pilot with the Anton/Bauer plate. I would advise against the AA plate because you may have a hard time balancing the rig with the lighter batteries, and I have also heard of people not being able to do low-mode without a heavier battery on bottom. I've used low-mode a handful of times. No problems balancing with AAs. I did have to move the screw-on weights around.
Premium Members Mark Schlicher Posted January 22, 2013 Premium Members Report Share Posted January 22, 2013 Dave has mastered the art of the Pilot with AA's. If you go that way, follow his lead. If you went with a more robust battery solution, some thoughts to consider... The lightest genuine AB batteries are 1.8lb (Dionic 90). You can buy 65wh generic V-lock batteries that weigh under 1.2lb. You could probably find similar generics in AB mount. Helps with any bottom-heavy issues, and offers a lot of capacity, especially if powering only the monitor. Here's a link: http://www.globalmed...n-Battery-65WH. Simon Thewlis
I went with the V-mount version and haven't looked back. The battery I went with was the Swit 8082S as it was reasonably priced and also has a d-tap outlet. 88Wh so will do a whole day. I also made up a lead to power the EX1 directly from the sled. Not having the camera battery gives you a bit more flexibility with the amount of accessories you can use. And it all still runs forever on the one Swit battery. I then started finding many other uses for the batteries - powering LED panels and other lights, monitors, etc.... - so have bought more.
