Does Canatrans cause interference for HD?

Guys,

I just did a shoot with the HVX200 HD video camera. I just got off the phone with the producer telling me that all the Steadicam footage had a diamond pattern interference all over the footage. While shooting I never saw any problems with the image on my monitor or the transmitted image to video village. The producer talked to the rental house and they told them that the Canatrans that I had caused the interference. I just wanted to ask everyone if they have either experienced something like this or heard anyone that has. I obviously never heard of this happening and just wanted to know if anyone did. Thanks for all your help

Last season on a show I work on we were experiencing interference problems that were attributed to the transmitters (modulus and canatrans) being too close to the Genesis bodies. Transmitters anywhere near the cameras were summarily banned by the DP and the problems went away. Since then I've been on other HD shows with transmitters with no issues. I've always wondered if it was another problem that had just gone away at the same time and the transmitters were not really to blame but hearing this report has me wondering.

It has happened with a modulus and a F-900 in the past...

I posted a while ago about a Music video shoot I did a couple of years back (tried to find the post, next time)... the P2 cards are very finicky and perceptive to RF interference... It manifests it self as a 45 degree pattern on the card and is only visible on a bigger screen. Our DIT realized it while dumping the cards... luckily he insisted on a test... we only had to reshoot one series of takes... but still.

No indication on the Steadi monitor or even the flip out one, but on the Cine Display... there it was.

Keep the transmitter away from the HD Movement or Solid state recorder.

Oh well...

Before the "incident" the transmitter is on top of the camera....

Ian,

Thanks for the reply. I wish I knew that this could have been an issue earlier. Live and learn.

Erwin,

Unfortunately, I had the Canatrans mounted exactly has you did. Except, our DIT didn't see in during the card dump. Thanks for the reply. Future reference for where I need to mount the transmitter. Thanks,

I have mounted my modulus to the handle of the HVX many times. On one shoot I noticed that with lower channels such as 15 the onboard mic would pic up some interference. Switched the channel to one in the 30s and the problem went away. Also moved the transmitter under my weight plate as an extra precaution. Never had that particular problem described.
