Operators in Miami willing to inspect a rig?

Hello,

First post in the forum. I recently bought a second hand Steadicam Pilot, for the lighter HDV cameras, and have been following all the steps for a first timer to set up the rig. I have achieved static balance and come close to pretty good dynamic balance, but the minute I put the rig on the arm or even try to balance it on my hand, I cannot get a steady feel and it comes off balance quickly. I've read here in the forum that it is somewhat common on these Pilot rigs for the gimbal to be offset and needed to be fixed, but before I send it to Tiffen, I want to make sure that I'm doing everything right at my end. So I was hoping to find a local, experienced operator in Miami, Florida, that could take the time to take a look at the rig and set it and see if it is ok or if it needs service, and if the rig is ok then perhaps to give me some quick instruction to get going, since there are no official workshops in this area anytime soon. Of course, I'm willing to pay for that person's time, I'm not expecting free help or advise. And yes, I've read the manual, seen all the videos, read the Dynamic Balance primer and anything else I could get my hands on, still no luck.

If you're only having the problem when you're wearing the rig, and everything is fine when the rig is on the stand, it's you, not the rig. Pictures and videos tell a lot if you can put any up. Otherwise, good luck, and keep practicing!

Im happy to help. You could also bring it to CineVideoTec and ask Dan Earl to help you out.

Mike,

Thanks for the offer. If you got the time and your rates for it are reasonable, I'd like to bring it to you. I've seen some of your work and besides the help I need, it would be cool to meet you. If however, you cannot do it, then let me know and I'll contact Dan Earl. Thanks for the info.

The help is on the house dude... I just finished a show yesterday so I'm unemployed for the rest of my life (untill my next job). I live south (Cutler Bay) and I'd be happy to help you out whenever.

Mike,

Being "unemployed for the rest of one's life" between jobs is the only way to go, it keeps things fresh and in perspective and your instincts sharp :-) Anyway, I can pass by wherever you are and bring my Pilot so you can take a look at it. My phone number is 305-815-3560 and you can call me at your convenience to set up a time, or send me your number and I'll call you. I have a couple of gigs this weekend, but from Monday onwards, I'm at your disposal.

Regards,
