Aaron Neal Trout Posted October 13, 2009 Report Share Posted October 13, 2009 I'm thinking about upgrading from my Fisher Price First Flyer (aka Glidecam) to a Flyer LE so that I can fly my buddies Red ONE, my GH1, and my school's SR2. I've been scouring the internet and various forums and have been unable to locate information on exactly what A/V & power connections are on the top stage on the Flyer LE sled. A picture would be swell, but if anyone could just tell me that would be great as well. I'm going to contact Terry West (per various recommendations all over this forum) about power cables for the Red ONE and SR2, but I would also like to be able to run a couple of 12v on board lights I have, as well as a Redbyte Dominator. I'm not afraid to modify the sled, as I've got a background in 12v electronics, but I don't want to void any warranty. Thanks in advance! A new rig usually comes with the 3-pin LEMO to 4-pin XLR power. In some cases it's simply easier to just convert from 4-pin XLR. I made my own splitter to support wireless video and a Bartech at the same time. The unfortunate part is that there is no power/video at the bottom of the post, so you get top heavy very fast with all those accessories up there. Terry and I have been working up a breakout box for the lower spar. He would chop into tiffen's multi core cable and wire an 8-pin PRO style LEMO to it that would plug into the box. The box would have video and a few power outputs of my choice, as well as an opposite sex 8-pin LEMO to continue on to the monitor. That would allow some accessories down there, but the box could still be removed and the monitor cable plugged back up like stock. Or you could just upgrade to a bigger rig that has all of this already...which is what I'm hoping to do pretty soon.. If you are running RED you will probably need a remote FF as well. Most clients will ask for video assist so maybe you should speak with terry to provide additional power cables if possible. The next step up from Steadicam is way out of my price range, and I've not been super impressed with my current Glidecam's manufacturing, so I'm apprehensive to purchase from them again. Either way I can't buy anything until I sell my current rig. I figure next time I'm in LA I'll pop into Steadicam to try a Flyer and Alan Gordon to try an X-45. Emre - I'm interested to see how much the Hocus Focus is when it comes out. First toy is a downconverter box. Second one is the Wireless FF. The biggest difference is that the GC X45 handles a little more weight than the Flyer but the flyer arm performance is sweeter. There are also some pros and cons. As I said on HBS, when you posted your question. I did a review both here and on the HBS forum.
