This preproduction demo show what the new INTUIT FOCUS v.01 (beta) is capable of. It is wired follow focus unit for those who tend to use new DSLRs on their rigs, Steadicams or any kind of dollies. This product will be coming in 2 versions, with 1 controller and 1 motor or 1 controller - 2 motors for easier and faster switches between setups.

Currently INTUIT FOCUS is in it's final test faze and it will be ready for sale via IF web site.

I thought these dslr's had even less depth of field and were giving focus pullers nightmares...I can't imagine an operator doing well on anything except the simplest of shots.

Funny pic Erwin -- with that drop time the assistant could trip over the cable and it wouldn't upset the shot!

 

I started with the old preston micro-servo hard wire and a heden. I hated the cable, but worse was listening to the assistants bitch about being cabled (imagine that!). Got a seitz to shut them up...then they bitched about the accuracy.

I am new guy in Steadi WORLD ... if you guys were from here you would know what it's all about.

Our budgets are mainly poor so you have to do it your self. This is why I got myself a small, precise Steadicam Pilot. It is really enough for me since my DSLRs are round 4lb ...

So yes...DOF is extreme but aint that a fun part ? If I with maybe 10 hours of steadicam working experience can manage it ( it's just simple stuff) anyone can do it. ( I got my steadicam in May last year).

The unit it self is very small and you can place it above or under the gimbal. The wheel is BIG enough to get it right.

I like the concept. Simple and easy. Clever made. I dont think its something for steadicam though, we have our hands full with framing the shot and all the things that comes with it. In our case, we do depend on our focuspuller, and prefer wireless. But when go to sticks, or dolly, this could work. But again, in our case, it takes enough time to setup the camera and focusmotors, that if we have to go to sticks or dolly, we leave it all on the camera and keep pulling focus wireless on the dolly or sticks.

 

But i think you could have a market, it just wont be ours i am affraid.

Not making fun... Innovation is supposed to go forward. For his market I am sure it works and it is... never going to take off here dough. We abandoned the wired units decades ago... if he caters to the low budget, then I will move it to the newbie section and not comment on it.

 

BUT:

 

If you are trying to cater to a certain professional market, at least appear professional. Operating with bad form and trying to sell us on a new product... not going to happen. Also coming on this forum and toting the horn that you are just doing it for a year and anybody can do that... is not going to help your case.

 

Remember the Insurance company that had an"op" operating a steadicam while looking through the eye piece? Makes me dismiss the product as they don't appear to know what we do for a living.

In that case, anyone want to let me fill in on an LA production for a day? I can only fly 25lbs before my top stage begins to vibrate on my ole' EFP. ha ha

Original intention was to make a ANY type of usefull FF unit , very light and small for my OWN gear. Idea of production wasn't an optinon, I just wanted a unit that can help me with this DSLR story. I shoot/edit/direct my stuff ...oh it's not much but still.... That is why I got my self smallest steadicam kit... to make a use of it from time to time. Try to put a DSLR with 50mm f1.2 on it and then try to focus it. I worked 6 years on TV ENG news crew and I know bog cams and I know how the big rigs work, but do U know how this DSLR thing works ? Comparing broadcast lenses focusing to DSLR focusing is a child game. Try it sometimes.

Its not for Steadicam Marko.

 

In music videos we are using DSLR cameras as B-cameras on body rigs, on cables, on remote controlled cars, time slice rigs and k clamped to anything that moves so there may be options there but its tough competition out there with the hocus focus etc being launched.

 

Just as a minor deviation. I hate that current moving through focus look that is currently so prevalent now with monkeys operating DSLR s. I am banking on it going out of fashion as soon as possible.

I hate it to. I am just saying that I can get few shots that I need for my production. That's the idea. If I need something more important I rent an operator with a big rig. But most of the time I need few simple shots and usually I have time to try to do it in a few takes.

Here where I live there are 2 (two) steadicam operators that are worth renting. That's right...I live in the asshole of the world, look it up under Croatia.

All I hope is that you have it sensibly priced...because I will buy one. I have been doing this for 27 years and love people who come up with new gadgets etc...just don't overprice it and keep it simple and good on YA !!
