Eric Anderson (G-ZOOM) asked me to test and evaluate his Zoom/Focus System.

First- I have worked with Eric in the past. Mostly at ABC-TV as Pedestal Camera Ops. Eric has also operated my Jibs on ABC College Football and Wide World of Sports.

The G-Zoom System is a Gimbal mounted Zoom/Focus System. I tested and evaluated the G-Zoom on a Artemis EFP Pro with a SD Ikegami HL55 Betacam. I tested with several Stanton Right Angle motors and 3 Standard Stanton Jib motors I will give it a whirl on a HD Internal focusing Lens somtime next week.

Please keep in mind that the focus half of the system Eric sent me is still in development.

The system's zoom rocker and focus pot are hinged and fasten directly onto my gimbal. I asked Eric to reverse the side the focus pot was on, which he did with no problem. Both controls are very comfortable and easy to reach. The zoom speed adjustment is located just to the left of the zoom rocker and is easily adjusted. Zoom rocker was very smooth. The Focus pot was easily reached with my index finger. Some might prefer the focus pot on the other side. I did not like the fact that the cables came out the left side of the unit and crossed over the gimbal. I suggested to Eric to bring the cable out the other side.

The electronics are in a small lightweight box. At this time there is no bracket to attach it to 15mm or 19mm rods. The unit forced all the motors tested to "chatter" at times. Also there was a slight ramping between the focus pot and motors. Eric is wiating for a upgraded board that he said would take care of both problem. Once he upgrades we will re-test

I will add a post once I have the opportunity to test it on a HD internal focusing lens.

Eric supplied

Zoom/Focus Controller

Electronics

Artemis-GZoom Power Cable

Stanton Motor extension cable

Fuji Zoom Jumper

Canon and Fuji HD Lens Cable

Case

Adam Keith
